The growth of a Palestinian identity is key. Before WW2, there was no such thing. Even prior to 1967 it was only a weak form of identity. A typical inhabitant of Jaffa in 1947 would identify himself by name and family; as a Muslim; as an Arab. "Palestine" was just part of former Greater Syria, itself a former province of the Ottoman Empire. Now we do have a Palestinian nationalism - as a mirror to Jewish nationalism - or "Zionism". Less fervour from both nationalisms would be a very good idea.

I see that you have now let my comment through on the other video - after a delay of 2 days. There is much to say against Hickey and what he says, but I am limited here to 450 characters. Meanwhile, he is able to hold the floor with his biased video lecture.
On the substance of his attack, the Muslim Arabs in Israel/Palestine have obviously not been extirpated. On the contrary, through an extremely high birth rate and increasing life expectancy, their population growth is extremely high.

It obviously was being censored so as not to expose any contrary views.. Hence, I've put my comment back here instead, which seems not to be censored (yet).
Hickey doesn't like real balanced public debate about Israel and the Arab World. It would expose where his prejudices actually come from - and the big flaws in his arguments.

He mis-uses the word extirpating to describe the policy of Israeli Jews towards the Israeli Arabs that are in their midst - and Palestinian Arabs who also surround them. Extirpating means total destruction. Such a bitter and dishonest speaker should not be kept as a philosophy lecturer at Brighton University.
So true! Why would we support anybody to carry out such acts of oppression? We need to spread the word amongst out friends and family who might not know what is going on over there.
