  • @phaxad Our god is bigger than religion.

  • really comments should be disabled for all youtube videos because 90% of people on here are just trolls anyways. May you all find lives at some point. Peace.

  • In most of phil's video's, this one especially, he is basking at the foot of the Lord, giving his offering and receiving a blessing... He has shut the world out, transported to heaven's gate, and in the presents of God. And the fragrance of the Lords visitation, still lingering for us all to witness....Praise Jesus!!!!

  • Masterful........please...what are his strings tuned to...does anyone know....thanx...

  • @pistolp01 I think it's in a dadgad tuning, tuned a half step down

  • @pistolp01 I think it's in a dadgad tuning, tuned a half step down

  • 4 dislikes......really ?

  • He's missing the middle finger. I didn't notice it while i was hearing it.

  • Three people need enemas.

  • my god!

  • Hes showin his Irish

  • incredible!!.....wonder where Phil gets all that talent??

  • @gandydancr Alot of practice.

  • Always a pleasure to here Phil

    He is a master!

    ChrisPicking

  • Beyond nature. Beyond words. A total genius.

  • Phil Keaggy is amazing! I never knew he was missing a middle finger. That makes him all the better :D

  • Tommy Emmanuel can play any of Phil's stuff with ease.

    Don't know about vice versa.

  • @beermebaby yeah... ok

  • @beermebaby when jimi hendrix was asked on the tonight show how if feels to be the best guitar player in the world, he responded, "i dont know, ask phil keaggy" he didnt say ask tommy emmanuel. who the fuck is tommy emmanuel anyway.

  • @samistheman3 Oh yeah? Let's see that video of Jimi saying that. What's that? You can't find it?

There are so many variations to that urban legend. It's just that, an urban legend. Do yourself a favor and run your little fairy fingers across the keyboard and do a search for Tommy Emmanuel. He actually exists as opposed to your precious urban legend.

  • @beermebaby ahhh your one of those guys who likes to get all rowdy on youtube... i got better things to do man. and its too bad an urban legend is more famous than tommy emmanuel, he really must not be that great

  • @Wampaa......Why is it a silly slap technique? Because it looks dumb or sounds bad? Maybe it's because his middle finger is missing? Who cares if it's silly, it sounds great!! Either way it sounds amazing and probably better sounding than you could ever do or anyone who has commented on here can do.

  • @Dmills06> This cut actually IS from an 'instructional' video, which was made in the early '90's? PK covered a lot of acoustic and electric technique. This song, (County Down) is from his album "Beyond Nature". Phil Keaggy often uses alternate guitar tunings, but when he does he mentions them in the album 'notes'.

  • phil is so good, even the devil loves his playing.

  • This is a great song until he ruins it with his silly slap technique.

  • @Wampaa Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Someone may just slap YOU silly.

  • @xpjd You call me a fool then threaten to slap me because I don't like Phil's silly slap technique? I've never met a guitar player who liked the technique or who didn't think it was gaudy and showy. The song is beautiful and doesn't need such contrivances.

  • @Wampaa Put the gun down, man. I'm not threatening you...just using a turn of phrase in an attempt at a little humor to lighten your mistaken comment. I've met Phil a few times and there is not one chromosome in his body that is "gaudy or showy".

  • Brent Krueger - Easy Come Easy Go (Original Song)

  • Check out Glass Harp.

  • it's sooo beautifull!! :) ♥

  • wow it awesome to see a idiotic debate on every single you tube video ever created

  • in addition to all the talent he has its still amazing hes missing a finger and plays this well

  • Really great tune, a joy to hear it again and again, thank you Phil for your music!

    Chris

  • simply wow!

  • His really great! Big respect mister Keaggy

    ChrisPicking

  • I can't "like" this song enough. I only recently discovered Keaggy--by accident, no less--and he's amazing. I'm super into American primitive guitar, and though he's very different in many ways from that school, I think there's some obvious similarities. Anyone know where I can find some of Phil's records? And are they solo guitar or not?

  • @Smarigdine There is one album I know of called "Watt 220" which is all solo guitar. Most of his albums are Christian music, so most of his stuff does have lyrics, but still great guitar play (my fav is "Doin Nothin" song on Crimson and Blue album). It's some old stuff, if anybody has em it would be at a Christian book store, or Amazon.

  • I have his Guitar Recorded Version tablature book and his stuff is extremely difficult to play, especially his guitar solos and downright weird chords and how quickly he transitions from each one. For instance, one part in March of the Clouds is killer because of the runs, speed, and precision involved. Although, I can play Let Everything Else Go and part of Cajon Pass. Trust me, his stuff is a challenge to any guitarist of any style! No joke!

  • Who Can Put Dont Like To This?

You are awesome, your music takes me to a place Very very far away from reality!

  • By the way, I hate the word 'religious' since it has been defined by men. Anyway, his music is so full of depth and emotion.

  • A complete master with the acoustic. The songs from this albums still stand up to the modern masters like: Andy Mckee, Don Ross and Leo Kottke

  • This takes me back... I love the way you make the guitar sing. Thank God for your talent... Thank you for sharing yourself with us. What a blessing!

  • I tried that DADGAD tuning he says he uses, but I can't play a GADDAM thing.

  • what a man's man.

  • hey!! i didnt know Paul Mac could play like dat! (phil does look like him some what). i love this song! NO ONE does it like phil.

  • GOSPEL MUSICIAN!

  • Thanks for posting this. No matter what you may believe, this song is still beautiful.

  • The GOD of Abraham, Isacc, and Jacob has blessed this man. He is truly gifted. I've seen him live twice, purely Amazing!

  • I've trying to learn this song, I am aobut 1/4th done! haha :) love this song!!!

  • Pure beauty!! Truly a master!!

  • Pure beauty!!

  • Lol religious debate. You're all LAME.

  • I love this song!!

  • sooo awesome

  • i know this song at one time caught your fancy so eric if you are still out there remember the jackson resophonic is still yours for the takeing as i had promised many years you know who you are

  • phil is not the first to borrow from others style among blues musicians its called stealing and and thats on the level all guitarist have at one time or another combined all of thier influences in to one melting pot to creat thier own signature style phil is no exception i met him years ago i ask him if he owned a resophonic guitar he did not know what i meant when he played with the group invention he played a solo piece thus quote the jester on a paul magill resophonic guitar

  • TairyGreen89: what have you done ? You've spilled the religious debate all over your discrimination against the handicapped. They have nothing to do with each other, and your bigotry is reminiscent of the lowest denominator among the highly religious. From one atheist to another, be enlightened, not an asshole! Use your rationality to help and lift others. Why would you say such things about another when you know, rationally, you have no more intrinsic value than they do?

  • atheist are far from enlightened. quite the opposite, they are in the dark because they are too afraid to believe what they know deep down in their heart is true. It's true because there is a holy spirit in all of us that tells us so. Atheists and are too worldly and their greatest fear is to be seen as hypocrites, which is what they think christians are, because sometimes we succumb to the flesh and do things against what the bible says. that's not a reason to disbelieve something. That's fear.

  • Nothing you just said makes sense wileypayote. If anyone can be said to be 'enlightened' it is certainly not those who believe tales that even children understand to be untrue. If there is a 'holy spirit' that tells us anything, it has to be verified in some way so that we can affirm it even exists. What is the difference between someone talking to the voices in their head, and someone talking to god? Nothing. Fear is believing you will go to hell, for any reason. Atheists don't have that.

  • What is true: that God made the world or that it came about by an explosion? Explosions do not have creative power. An explosion in space will not produce a skateboard - let alone the boy riding it! God is real. You can know the One Who made you. He is great - my best friend.

    Blessings,

    Ken

  • @musicmistress17 ok... bullshit

  • @rEptiLeKitChen Excuse me, this is not the same person who wrote that comment you replied to. My dad forgot to sign out of my account before commenting. Again. This isn't the first thing like this I've gotten in my inbox. If you want to contact my dad, his username is shilorenovation. I'm his daughter.

  • @rEptiLeKitChen Very intelligent response. Lol

  • @briwill99 if you read the comment I was responding to then yes, it really is

  • you're an idiot

  • This is a great tune and very well performed. Not matter if Phil is religous or likes peanut butter or the color green... It's just heartfelt and that's it.

  • Amen brother... I mean That's right! :-)

  • @kalusr i pherher beanut putter the philling my self with to much mucsi

  • @kalusr I think he does like the color green!

  • love it.

  • This is amazing!!!! Peacefull music! Its great he is doing it for God!

  • Olsen guitar! Get one you only have to mortgage your house lol

  • Phil mentioned that he was impressed with Michael Hedges style and incorporated aspects of it in to his playing which I believe he does without wearing it on his sleeve. Keagy will always be Keagy which is a beautiful thing.

  • I guess i do not believe that "mentally retarded" people have fewer talents than do others; Phil, Paul, Joe, etc. "Cruel ways and inefficient" (as you describe) are not worthy of debate in this discussion group as the music Phil shares is great (as you point out) and thus as the artist he should be best placed to be the one that gives the Master the glory over himself.

  • I agree. Let's discuss in-depth theological debates in another venue and just listen to and discuss the great music that is freely given to us here.

  • have you ever seen a retarded person play guitar like Keaggy or play basketball like Michael Jordan or do anything well? i highly doubt it. they have a much lower capacity to retain information and perform difficult tasks. so yeah i would say they aren't as talented. tell me one thing that a handicapped person can do better than a healthy person. you are all atheists for 99% percent of all the gods that have been worshiped in human history (Zues, Thor etc.) i just go one god further.

  • there have been people born with no arms who have learned how to play guitar or piano better than you will ever be able. I don't know why someone with you bitter heart would be watching phil keaggy videos anyway. he doesn't think like you

  • @TairyGreen89 There is a boy with downs syndrome that can look at a snapshot of the sky and immediatly know how many stars are shown in the photo. There are twin sisters with downs syndrome that never forget ANYTHING. they can tell you what the weather was like durring the afternoon of september 18, 1986. I am an christian boy but your comment is just ignorent.

  • @brayden12345 Ok a very small number of them have some savant abilities, but the vast majority of people with downs syndrome don't have any novelty talents like the examples you provide. I have a question for you, would you rather have downs and be dependent on someone to care for you but have the ability to count stars in a photo, or would you rather be healthy and be able to perform everyday necessary tasks and take care of yourself?

  • @TairyGreen89 i only saw that one comment, and i don't see how your rude statements about people with downs syndrome not being able to take care of themselves fits in with religion or phil keaggy's amazing guitar playing...

  • @brayden12345 I was responding to someone else who left a comment on the subject.

  • this songs takes my breath away

  • That's epic acoustic tone. Nice hat, is he in New Jack City? Great vid!

  • How can anyone argue about Phil Keaggy. He is the most humble, unassuming person I have ever met. He forces nothing on anyone and in my opinion he combines melody, songwriting and technique better than anyone ever. Why fight over such a pure spirit and such amazing expression.

  • As always, Phil is a superb talent, even if he is delusional.

  • Phil is one of those personalities that you never tire of...he gives thanks to the Lord every chance he gets...thanks for sharing with all of us in your special way for so many years Phil. Pax.

  • I am not a religious person at all, and this song is pure genius.

  • Im not sure your allowed listening then...

  • @crownstupid

maybe you should be, because who else but God could have given this

man this gift. Makes you wonder doesn't it?

  • @wileypayote your not born good at guitar it takes practice your not just born with it

  • @enjoylifeandsurf No, you are given those gifts by God. whether

you choose to recognize it and "bear fruit" as the bible says and pursue

your talent and wort at it, is another thing. He's chosen to do that. Everything is both nature and nurture in life.

  • @wileypayote you my friend are an optmis i am a realist what you saying is every great guitarist was born to be great at guitar and every one is predetermined to crash and burn i believe that anyone can play if the put in the practise. you get out what you put in.

  • @wileypayote you my friend are an optmis i am a realist what you saying is every great guitarist was born to be great at guitar and every one is predetermined to crash and burn i believe that anyone can play if the put in the practise. you get out what you put in.

  • Mr Keaggy let your ethereal Praise calm my weary spirit...

  • The guys got talent, that's true. But Who gave it to him? He'd probably rather you all praise his maker than declare his amazing talents. After all, he can't take credit for what was given to him, now can he?

  • come on now man, when you make comments like that you gotta keep in mind:

1 - not everyone shares the same religious beliefs as you, and 2 - your completely undermining what many others would call hard work and talent on Keaggy's part.

  • if i may say just one thing is you 1st statement is correct but if you ever watch any of Phil's interviews he always never take any credit for his playing....talk about humble.

  • I totally agree with you regarding his hard work. I don't think anyone here disputes this either. What we are merely suggesting is that this man believes that God has made his heart, mind and hands!

  • same train of thought... those that dont contribute as much to the world were granted less talent. Uh oh... we are going to do some circular logic here aren't we like "well they have not chosen the path to yada yada" ... yeah right. Convenient thinking that has no real tenable result. fail.

  • How does this have any bearing on the comment I made?

  • why would a god give one person unbelievable talent and make another mentally retarded? I guess it's because god works in mysterious, inefficient and horribly cruel ways. shut up with the whole god given talent crap and give keaggy the credit, even if he won't accept it.

  • Yes Phil is greatness!

  • He's a great guitarirst like Johan Sebastian Bach was a great organist, more he is a composer

  • Yea Keaggy has the style and is definitely one of the unsung guitar heros in the public eye ! Can't take nothing away from him. hey and he knows who Jesus Christ is too ! Great combination !

  • My all time favorite by Phil

  • Mine too!

  • love you Phil...I can meditate and forget everything when I hear your guit!

  • wow.. I learned the most of this song in only 1 day... Its amazing to play!!!

  • Comment removed

  • man..... i wish i had an Olsen guitar!!!! Best their is in my opinion. He makes it sing soooooo beautifully.

  • not bad for a guy missing a finger!

  • not bad for God... yeah... you read that right. lol

  • This is one of my fav keaggy tunes. It is from Beyond Nature album and it has a fiddle accompanying him... just amazing.

I uploaded a version of me attempting to play this tune... check it out and let me know what you think if you would.

  • better than clapton even! incredible!

  • Phil Keaggy had an accident with a water pump as a little boy, where he lost his middle finger.

  • so beautiful!

anyone know what happened to his middle finger on his right hand? is it a birth defect?

  • It's not a birth defect. He had an accident when he was 4 involving a water pump. It obviously didn't hold him back one bit though!

  • 5*****'s from County Tippecanoe!

  • Amazing, he has 9 fingers, and plays very good :O

Going to show my bro ;D i net he will be like wow by Phill's anazing skills :) But what is matter is that he enjoys playing guitar, look at him :D he enjoys it~! x3 *rates it 5*

  • I guess he's playing somewhere around 90% of his full potential (i 'm just kidding :-) . He 's really nice on acoustic, great in using the e-Bow too...

  • Well Damian, he is extremely well known for his music, he's known all over the world.

  • never heard of phill before since my mom showed me what she was listening back in the days.

it's a freaking shame that he isn't better known for his great music and playing. i'm totaly stunned and a fan already

  • The basic tuning he uses is always a half step down.... so from there, for this song you would tune to DADGAD by tuning your hi and low E strings to match your D string. Then tune your B string to match your A string.

  • pk is one of my all-time favorite musicians because of his heart AND because of his flawless guitar playing.

  • not laughing at the hat, silly. i am laughing at BestOf90sCCM's comment about the hat. i <3 phil's beret & phenomenal gift. his music is wonder-FULL.

  • too funny --- the hat! HA!

  • this must be heaven!

or a touch of it, for sure.

    : )

  • thanks for the share. Lovely piece.

  • Fabulous player !! Phalaïna

  • Anyvody know what tuning he's using?

  • tuning is DADGAD (sort of) I think the recording he tunes the whole guitar down a full step from DADGAD. Great tune. Amazing player.

  • well folks i finally learned this song! It is so awesome to play!

  • cool.. whoever gave me a negative.

  • a truly phenomenal player

  • How Does He write this stuff? It's Awsome.

  • he writes his stuff by inspiration. he is a big-time Christian and his faith in Christ inspires him.

  • naw- it's the hat!

  • That's beautiful, such a master is Phil. What smooth and tasteful playing; the way music was meant to sound.

  • I'm not sure there isn't anything that Keaggy can't play. His electric guitar work is awesome. 'nothing but the blood' off hymnsongs is so smooth. I've seen McKee live recently and he was good, but not even in the same conversation as Phil, IMO.

  • im sure there isn't nothing that keaggy can't play. and i mean that literally. i doubt he could play steve vai's fire garden suite, but im sure steve vai can't play keaggy's country down. thats why im glad there are so many guitarists to hear - they are all limited.

  • I let my friend borrow this cd and he never gave it back... big mistake!

    5/5

  • Wow... flat-out fall-down amazing!

  • Beautifully played, the man glides over the fret board without a bumb note - truely great.

  • I know all about Keaggy, but who is McKee ???

  • I can't believe you guys ARGUE about music.

"Good music is good music, and that should be enough for anybody." - Bradley Nowell

  • I agree with this wholeheartedly. The argumentation going on in these Keaggy video threads is juvenile. Reminds me of 7th grade; "Who plays faster, Jimmy Page or Ace Frehley?" Give it a rest and just enjoy.

  • what tuning is this?

  • according to the sleeve notes in his time2 best of, PK is using a DAD GAD tuning but its set a tone and a half below concert pitch. hopefully that helps

  • what do you mean a tone and a half below concert pitch?

  • sorry concert pitch is a term used to describe a standard tuning based around A as 440Hz. its the universal tuning for guitar.

  • like concert b flat is c..

    that pisses me off

  • heres just a fact about the whole Keaggy Mckee thing... Mckee sites Keaggy as one of his major influences... nuff said.

  • Who in their right mind would want to be without either Keaggy OR McKee?! They are both gems!

What seethes beneath the rivalry is some "Christians versus Secularist" rivalry, as if Keaggy's talent somehow vindicates the dogmas of the Catholic-Protestant Church, or that talent like McKee OUTSIDE of the Church somehow invalidates it!

  • I actually didn't realise a rivalry at all. but simply speaking as a guitarist... keaggy is a better guitarist, not to mention the songs are written better... I think mckee might reach keaggy's level at some point but it seems that keaggy is quite a bit older than mckee and probably been playing longer

  • I don't really want to enter into this whole Keaggy-McKee rivalry thing, mainly because I simply don't know a whole lot about Andy McKee. But for anyone who wants to see Keaggy in a totally different mode than he is here in this video, just search for "glass harp never is a long time" Man he could tear it up 35 years ago. It's definitely a lot of fun to watch!

  • People who keep arguing about who is better, Andy McKee or Keagy, just type in -La boda de Luis Alonso Intermedio Kazuhito Yamashita-and these arguments will seem irrelevant. See a real virtuoso play.

  • yeah hes a fantastic guitarist, does things keaggy will never do. On the other hand keaggy does things he will never do and keaggy's songs although, not nearly as technically amazing, sound better are more enjoyible to listen too.

  • the other thing is that he can sing well too!bomb song! :-)

  • it s great someone can get the tab.. and send to me ?'?

  • Phil's the master musician ;). Only player I know who can have a hypnotic effect on an audience.

  • Keaggy's greatness is the unique ability to compose pieces that are transcendent and perform them with incredible technical skill. Only Michael Hedges was comparable among finger-style guitarists.(By the way, his religion is totally irrelevant!)

  • The more you promote Keaggy's Christianity, the more people go to Andy McKee. SO don't even use that word in in or around keaggy. If you can't see the way god has affected him and his music, you're blind. His music speaks for itself, so stfu with talking about god because I hate people not taking keaggy seriously because he's christian. He beats the hell out of malmstein.

  • and i really don't understand all the rivalry between McKee and Keaggy fans. is it hard to admit that both are superb musicians with superior writing skills? i would like to see one of you play anything remotely good as McKee or Keaggy do.

  • don't get me wrong. mckee is a swell and fine guitarist, more of a guitarist and writer than 90pct of "famous" guitarists. But i believe has has nothing on keaggy as far as a sense of composition and harmony goes. Mckee gets boring really fast to me. Again, I'm not hating on him, as it were, I'm merely preferring Keaggy over Mckee. I believe Keaggy deserves more respect and publicity than he gets. Much of his lack of publicity is because he's Christian.

  • "Much of his lack of publicity is because he's Christian."

And that's society's fault. If others want to admire him for his Christianity which DOES play a heavy role in his music and love for music, than they should be able to.

To suggest otherwise means you're telling them to succumb to the anti-Christian ways of society. Noone should have to do that for any reason.

  • good point. the whole reason keaggy even plays is to serve Jesus. If a Christian fan isn't allowed to praise God for this fantastic music then something isn't right. Like it or not these song were created for the sole purpose of glorifying the one true God.

  • One of the pretties acoustic guitar pieces I've ever heard... just beautiful.

  • I love Phils POD cast. They are like wow man.

I cut my christan teeth on Phils music in 1982.

  • Phil has talent on loan from God and shares it with us gracefully.

  • u know anyone with talent that doesnt come from God? or u have to be baptized to be worthy of Gods graces? please leave religion out of this. just listen to the music and respect it for what it is.
