i hate this phone, i never had to replace it BUT.. it is EXTREMELY slow, when you send a picture message it brings up all your pics to choose from and it takes like 10 minutes to load all the pictures,takes even longer to turn on, has a 4 hour battery life if it's just sitting there, and you can't customize ringtones. do not buy it!

Most phones are locked by default, meaning you can't use a SIM card from anyone other than the carrier that sold you the phone. When you get the phone "SIM unlocked" you can use it with any SIM card you want.
The phone has a short battery life, so you need to recharge it almost everyday. Also it uses up the battery quickly if you're doing anything other than making calls. I watched three 10 min videos on the phone after a night's charge and it went from 3 bars (full) to 2 bars.

hi, does anyone know how to transfer video from phone to PC? i recorded some snow videos with this phone- saved on the storage card, tranfered them to PC with an adapter+card reader. but they dont play.
Is there any way to completely disable all predictive text settings? I was messing around with one of these in a store the other day and I couldn't get it to my liking. I want to press the key with T and Y on it, and if I want a T I press once, if I want a Y I press twice. No suggestions, no completing my words, none of that. Is this possible?

I usually delete messages with profanity in them, but if I was on my fourth phone in five months, I'd probably be swearing too. That seems bizarre that you're having so many problems...I haven't heard anything about the Shadow being particularly problematic.

Not really - I'd suggest a clamshell phone, they tend to be tougher because the screen is protected. The screen on this one is facing outward, so there's a risk of damage.
You're inclined to believe what you want, but in the cell phone industry if someone says "QWERTY" keyboard, it refers to a keyboard layout where each key is mapped to a letter, just like a regular keyboard. A SureType-like keyboard is what the Shadow has - but it's not actually SureType.
I know nothing about how the cell phone industry works...once the Shadow 2 comes out, do you think they will stop selling the original? I know that the price will go up for the Shadow 2 and from what I've heard, it's basically the same phone just with longer battery life. Is that correct? I really want this phone but I don't think I can get it until December, which is probably the time the Shadow 2 will come out.

You mean MMS messages? Yes, this phone can send MMS messages. If by "free IM" they mean Windows Messenger, then yes, it should qualify. I never got used to the keyboard because I didn't use the Shadow for very long - I'm using a Samsung Blackjack II now with a QWERTY keyboard.
it has the same kind of keyboard, its cheaper, the screen is the same size. im just gonna forget the sidekick the blackberry the sony ericsson im getting this one
Battery life is very subjective, because it really depends on what you're using it for, how much you're using it in a given day, etc. The only way to judge battery life is to get one for yourself and see - but the Shadow II is coming out very soon, so you might want to wait for that...

Unfortunately Microsoft, in their extremely short-sighted approach, has never allowed synching with anything other than Outlook. I don't know much about Blackberry products, but I doubt they'll sync with Outlook Express either.
No, I liked the Dash better than the Shadow - but that's because I really needed a QWERTY keyboard for typing email and texts. I'm no good with T9 or the SureType keyboards.
To me 128mb is not a lot because you can barely download music with 128 gig. I have a sony erricson w200a not the best but a phone it came with 128mb not alot.Actually nvm i agree with you 128mb is good. It depends how big the songs are.You do a good job at unboxing. peace
Right, but that's why it has a microSD memory card slot - you can get an 8 GB microSD card for only $27...so the lack of big storage on the phone doesn't matter much at all.

They're likely in MPEG4 format - download a free player called VLC Media Player and it should play them.

Yes, it can capture videos, but the resolution of 176 x 144 is very low and the quality is quite horrible.

hey I have a couple of questions about the shadow.
1) can you send pictures through text messsage? (it is included in my plan)
2) Does free instant messaging included in my plan apply also to the shadow?
and also how long did it take for you to get used to texting on the shadow? what were some things that helped you get used to it?

You mean MMS messages? Yes, this phone can send MMS messages. If by "free IM" they mean Windows Messenger, then yes, it should qualify. I never got used to the keyboard because I didn't use the Shadow for very long - I'm using a Samsung Blackjack II now with a QWERTY keyboard.

Battery life is very subjective, because it really depends on what you're using it for, how much you're using it in a given day, etc. The only way to judge battery life is to get one for yourself and see - but the Shadow II is coming out very soon, so you might want to wait for that...

thanks for the detailed review. i have windows xp. will i be able to sync outlook express (contacts, emails, calendar) with this phone? i was going to but razr2 V9m but decided on this because of outlook only. if it wont sync, do you know if pearl 8100 or 8120 has that feature? would appreciate any info that you can provide. thanks.

Unfortunately Microsoft, in their extremely short-sighted approach, has never allowed synching with anything other than Outlook. I don't know much about Blackberry products, but I doubt they'll sync with Outlook Express either.

No, I liked the Dash better than the Shadow - but that's because I really needed a QWERTY keyboard for typing email and texts. I'm no good with T9 or the SureType keyboards.

To me 128mb is not a lot because you can barely download music with 128 gig. I have a sony erricson w200a not the best but a phone it came with 128mb not alot.Actually nvm i agree with you 128mb is good. It depends how big the songs are.You do a good job at unboxing. peace

Right, but that's why it has a microSD memory card slot - you can get an 8 GB microSD card for only $27...so the lack of big storage on the phone doesn't matter much at all.
