  • Well if Yellowstone goes, we're all fucked.

  • Krakatoa vs Santorini.Krakatoa vs Tambora.Who will win?Who is cooler?

  • Excellent Narration whoever it was.

  • @Flickchaser The narration is done by Kevin McMonagle, the actor portraying Rogier Verbeek.

  • Mudah"an gk terjadi lagi yah kejadian kaya gini di "INDONESIA" :'(

    Amin

  • @MrTungky iyaaaa... sereeemm :(

  • Nothing in the word can copmpare it's power.

  • Many people believe Hurricanes, Tornadoes and Wildfires are the worst disasters - that's wrong. Earthquakes are number one and then Volcanoes. The power of volcanoes is GREATLY underestimated due to the fact that major eruptions occur in a vast period of time between each major eruption. But when they do, they cause wide spread problems and their power should never be underestimated.

  • Krakatoa vs Yellowstone Volcano

  • Is it possible that the 'global warming' the earth has been experiencing over the past few decades is actually, in part, the planet finally returning to it's normal temperature after three quarters of a century of being un-naturally cooled by this eruption?

  • omgee omgeeDDDDDD:

  • Thanks so much for posting this, I don't know what brought me here, but last night I suddenly remembered this movie from TV and just made me realize how powerful the earth can be, makes me wonder whats in store for us now!

  • Where I can find music from this film? It's wonderful

  • This is a fascinating historical event and sad movie. No one in modern times has seen anything on the scale of this disaster.....yet. Mother nature is cyclical so this will happen again....somewhere. The energy released from the final explosion alone was the equivalent of a 200 megaton Nuclear bomb. To put that in perspective, watch the video on "tsar bomba" and imagine what you see x4. Or another way to put it; roughly 10,000x more powerful than the bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima.....

  • Melody, my heartfelt thanks for posting clips from this amazing film! I have been in the arts for decades, from independent film to theatre to music and beyond, and it is a truly rare and precious experience that captivates, spellbinds, and affects me deeply. Thank you for introducing me to this superlative film!

  • @chimayai - *Blush!* I'm glad that you enjoyed it - but all kudos really goes to the BBC. They make the best docudramas around!

  • 7:02 - he looks like a retarded Rambo

  • sad yet fascinating... btw who's the girl at 2:02?

  • thanks for putting this on youtube. it has helped me heaps with my school project. it is an amazing docu-drama, it really has shown me how devastating this volcanic eruption was. usually when researching things, you find the figures and write them down, with this i have seen what people eye witnessed, and i now know what it would of been like to experience this eruption

  • Quite something to watch this. How long is this movie? Oh, yes. . .Who is the Narrator?

  • Quite something to watch this. How long is this movie?

  • we have the sons of Krakatoa to deal with now. I believe that since Krakatoa blew her belly...her legacy was the sons of Krakatoa..a chamber(s) of yet more molten lava and spectacular displays of violence.

  • i watched clip1-7 good info for homework thanx

  • I've been to Anak Krakatoa...but then after 5 minutes, I begged my friends to leave soon, coz give me chill....

  • @ronandali really? damn. how did u get there. i've been wanting to go there...

  • @ganaz30 about 2-3 years ago...

  • @ronandali cool. got any pics from there? really wanna see it.

  • @ronandali cool. do u have pics from the volcano? wish i could go ther...

  • @ganaz30 Unfortunately no...I didn't take pic there...we were there only 5-10 minutes..but I think my friend took some pics...

  • the people on the ship are SOO lucky that their ship didn't brake

  • Area: island of krakatoa

    Height: 2,213 feet

    Eruption: 1883

Yield: 200 megatons (4 times that of the largest nuclear bomb ever tested in humanity. Though even the 200 megaton blast is a bare estimate. It coulve been even greater)

Range heard: maximum of 3,000 miles.

destruction yield: 162 towns obliterated with 132 critically damaged. With a official toll of 36,417 dead. With 2/3'rds of Krakatoa totally obliterated.

Thats true information for anyone who didnt know what Krakatoa did.

  • Tecnically it wasn't Krakatoa that caused the year without summer...it was Mt Tambora

  • i tought no one survives that eruption but i was wrong... many people survives

  • The son of krakatoa will hopefully never errupt, but it might some day and lets hope that not nearly as much damage is done. This is terribly sad, but its real. I had to sit still and think about the lives of the poor people who lost everything!!!!!!

  • @ppmpgirl11

It is erupting frequently. If the magma was allowed to build up long enough, maybe because the vent was blocked, only then would it be able to explode violently.

  • where can one find the full movie? This docudrama had more emotion than notable several Hollywood films I have seen.:)

  • @Sethrezin - I got the Region 2 DVD from Amazon UK (I have the link at the bottom of the description box) - and someone also mentioned coming across it on eBay (also in Region 2 format). If you find it in Region 1, please let me and everybody else know!

  • This was a good movie. My favorite part was when the ship went over the tsunami. The background music fit the whole mood of the scene. I thought it was sad to see the baby die. Why did they kill the baby? But other than that , it was a pretty good movie.

  • @lolzatyahoo2: This isn't fiction, lolzaty, this is what happened. Apparently the baby died in the pyroclastic flow it was caught in. The details may have been different than depicted, but the action recorded for the family was real. They didn't kill the baby; the volcano did.

  • Absolutely superb.Does anyone know if the soundtrack is available. What a brilliant haunting theme tune.

  • the captain of that ship did an amazing job in saving those on board..too bad he died 2 years later :(

  • thanks for posting this clip.

it helps me a lot :))

  • Weren't most of the villagers (i.e. the indigenous people) on Krakatoa Muslims?

  • did you know the eruption was like 26 nukes!!! (26 times bigger than Mt. St Helens)

  • Notice how at the end the narrator mentions the world temperature dropping by twenty degrees into the 20 th Century... could it be that current global warming trends are due to the temperature coming back up to normal?? at least in part?? Just putting that out there.

  • Just been looking on Volcano World, they say That Anak Krakatoa is showing signs of eruptions intensifing, every year.

  • Indeed, Anak Krakatoa is being feared at the moment. They've detected a second vent that might open up. They fear that if Krakatoa erupts again, it might be a VEI 7 rather than a VEI 6 (1883 eruption ).

  • Its a little obvious its a real story. The characters wrote accounts for what had happened. Anac Krakatoa is real. Ive seen it.

  • this movie is freakin tight baby if it were for real i would have felt sorry for them ,but still the same i still felt sorry for them

  • Hahaha that's so inappropriate!! :P

  • omg i was cryin

  • good movie for my earth science teacher... .. thx for uploading

  • I'm glad to help!

  • thanks for posting this. I have heard that this volc. sent a shockwave around the earth seven times-is this true?

  • Yes, it occurred with the last explosion which was the greatest of the four that occurred on August 27, 1887. And that was the loudest recorded sound in history (Clip 3 - Loudest Sound).

  • i am from holland and when i heard about it, i shocked. this disaster is legendary among nederlands-indië, but we worst we have ever met.

thank you for uploading it, i have it as my favourite and this movie will stay in my heart...

  • This is one of my favorite movies too - not only was it a fascinating movie to watch, but you learn a whole lot from it as well without realizing it.

  • That is the beauty of Educational Television!

  • That song is so beautiful, and I think is matches with this story...if only iTunes had this song.

  • Yeah, I wish the BBC came out with a soundtrack for this movie too. The music credits list Tim Atack as the composer of all the beautiful and moody music for this, so kudos goes to him!

  • thankyou for uploading this set video ! :D my teacher give me a homework for telling this story and this vid helped me ! :D

  • I'm glad I was able to help you by providing video clips and links to more information! But the BBC did a great job with this film as well as the other websites that had documentation on the event. I wouldn't have this series uploaded without them!

  • I'm so glad I can help! But the bigger thanks goes to the BBC for such an excellent docudrama.

One of the reasons I posted this series was to inform about Krakatoa. When I learned that Anak Krakatoa was growing at 5m per year, I felt it was important that people, in particular those in Indonesia, should know about the volcanic cycle of Krakatoa in preparation of it's offspring's impending eruption.

  • So sad :(

but that vulcanologist must feel really responsible for everything

  • In my previous comment, if somebody didn't understand it or didn't see the very first part of the movie: Quote: "I could have Warned them!!! I still have time!" But he didn't make it in time i guess
