Oh mah gosh! I've been looking EVERYWHERE to do this! I was looking for Sony Vegas, Final Cut Pro, I can't afford After Effects, OpenShot, KDenlive, and here the program I've always wanted to do this with, is FREE! :D
Thanks for making this video, it's real cool :)
Can I do this with a Chroma Key effect? Like if I got this awesome fake phone with a green screen on the "monitor" and it shows me holding the phone up, will it look like there's something on it? Either way that's awesome.
What are the plugins you use here and where did you get them from? One for tracking, another blur motion, and still another for light effect? I'm a Kubuntu 9.10 user and the only "light" effect I found so far in my Cinelerra was the gradient effect.
@mysticalclown Linux has TONS of software. I use linux on all my computers. I haven't had much of a problem finding software. In fact I have found some amazing software that there isn't a windows version of.
were can idownload this Cinelerra is it free>>>/?? anyone got a link please Help me i juss wana edit a video for myspace dafaultpic icon..i wana do what arthur did in thisvideo please help.. thanks
I have been testing out the motion tracking in Cinelerra myself. I can track an object, but I am unsure as to how you overlayed a 'light' graphic that follows the tracking. What effect did you use?
thanks for the inspiration Arthur! this give me an idea so have used your video and done it myself... it was my very first ever experiment with video editing so am happy with the results for a first try
Fusion and Nuke are proprietary apps - YOU PAY FOR THEM! Cinelerra is TOTALLY FREE...and so is the OS it's designed for.
For hobbyists, students, and people in poor parts of the world - Linux and the huge array of free, open-source software available is perfect. Not to mention that Cinelerra is also open-source, meaning that development can be more rapid than with proprietary software.
I can't understand why some people compare commercial apps with free ones!
Cinelerra does a lot of stuff that sony vegas doesn't, which costed me 80 bucks, and only is missing a few special effects that weren't that useful in the first place. Cinelerra does crash, but not any more than any other editor, and it has a better backup system than the others I've seen.
Ok...enough showing off...how is it done...I have screwed with that motion effect for hours and the thing kinda tracks but it moves the video around instead of tracking the object. I turned rotation, and track subpixel on.
VERY impressive...where did the light come from...looks like a GIMP effect, lol
I plan on making a full tutorial soon, however I super scrambled my dependencies right now. (I just HAD to experiment!) I'm about to upgrade to Gutsy as soon as I'm done with my back up.
The light was a gimp effect. Just cranked out a quick PNG for the test.
Well Arthur...that still doesn't help me get this AWESOME effect going. I'm not much of a Ubuntu fan myself, but I do use a Debian based distro...I need help, like yesterday, lol. Could you possibly make a screen shot of the settings on your motion effect? I'd be waiting on pins and needles for this full tutorial of yours. I'll give you vnc access to my box if you want
Gutsy is a much stronger version of Ubuntu, but I suggest after the Gutsy upgrade get the studio upgrade. I've also heard(hope its true)that Blender will be supporting motion tracking and overall better video effects processing soon.If thats the case who needs to waste so much money on after effects.

sucks sucks + 50.
Get Fusion or Nuke, and see real power.

Sucks? You must be a little narrow-minded, huh?
These both cost a few thousand $. Cinelerra is free. Many people need *basic* video editing, not everyone is gonna make terminator style movies.
