Am I the only one that prefers Nathan Lane's Max Bilaystock over Zero Mostel's? Nathan Lane portrays Max as manipulative, dishonest, but by the end genuinely caring about Leo and secretly emotionally needy and desiring the recognition he once enjoyed. I personally find Nathan's version a much more paltable version of Max and a more loveable con-man character.
@ 3:31 - when nathan lane says - "who do you have to f* to get a break in this town?!"
- was not originally in the script, or written by mel brooks, - during rehersal , before opening night, nathan lane said that as a joke, and it went over very well, so they just added to the script
The Yiddish means I believe roughly according to my mother.... Max, Eventually every man has to take a shit. and than garbled ramblings that don't really mean anything.
@scurvytoon On behalf of everyone else, I thank your mother for the translation. Whether it's accurate or not, it certainly sounds like a Mel Brooks line!
I wondered why this song was cut from our production of this playat my school, and now I know why...lol. Still, the whole play is contraversal for school. =D
i know its on deleted scenes, that still makes it a shame it was not in the movie, it would of fit perfectly, when you see how they just finish singing opening night, it links so good. much better than a cross fade to max's office, i think anyway!!
"There was a time when I was young and gay- but straight!" I love that, especially considering the actors sexuality xD I can't help but crack a smile

what is a zigfeld?
Ademis 1 year ago
@Ademis Flo Ziegfeld was a famous broadway producer in the first half of the 20th century.
He had a certain style, so that's probably what Max is reffering to.
