Darius Rucker Live on Letterman

Darius Rucker has a great voice, but his songs are too simplistic for my tastes. Songs about drinking coffee or grandpa sitting on the porch or eating spaghetti? Who gives a ****!!! I'd love to hear do songs more in the vein of Terry Collier, because that's who he sounds like.

@jhartist123 I agree with you, not many black artists stray away from the supposed norm of R&B and Hip-Hop genre. But Darius is a great artist with an awesome voice!! I am black myself and love all types of music( can't do the heavy metal though lol) and country music is one of my favorites! Charlie Pride and never forget the awesome Ray Charles not many black musicians can really pull off country music. Just my opinion

Darius definitely is a good country artist, but Hootie & The Blowfish's work is far superior to the stuff he's done with country. Cracked Rear View is still one of the better albums ever in my opinion.

@rodey29 - Have you listened to the cd or just forming an opinion from the videos? That cd is solid all the way thru, one of my favorites while driving. The artist who recorded the cd are far superior to the blowfish band..not even comparable.

@othercousin I have both of Darius' country albums and I actually do enjoy them. To me though, neither of them are as good as Cracked Rear View. The stuff they recorded on that album is better than any of the country stuff he's done. Just my opinion though. And honestly, his "country" stuff doesn't differ than much from his music with The Blowfish. All he's done is added some banjo, twangy guitar and violin.

@rodey29 - Ok. Well stated and I agree. I think ppl just don't know what to make of him in "Country" but that first cd is great writing and acoustic playing (not always him). His voice is the magic we missed, if he had tried to pretend to be old school country it would have been laughable. Glad to hear you are one of a few who listened and liked it. Since country isn't country but pop-country rather, he fits there more than the MTV genres. Thanx for the interest to chat & spread the word.

I love Hootie and the Blowfish but Darius' solo album is phenomenal. The backup vocalist sounded a little off at times but it was still an amazing performance.

I've seen him several times. Unfortunately he appears to be flying under the radar. He does tour with Bonnie and Jackson Brown now and then and does solo shots. The last time I saw him live was 2004. You can get a DVD or 2 on him.

Never really liked Hootie and the Blowfish, but it was never for his lack of singing ability. He's a good singer, just didn't really enjoy the music. But the few Country singles I've heard have been pretty good so far, especially "It Won't Be Like This For Long." That is a great song.

If you ever went to a Hootie and the Blowfish concert (I have been to many!) you will see an audience ranging in ages 18-80! Very few bands appeal to that wide of an age range and you can bet that every other band wishes they had that type of appeal!

This sounds a little more like Hootie than Dont think I dont think about it... he's definitely got more of the mumbling going on in this song like in Let her cry. His sound is 1000 times more 'country' than Taylor Swift but the fact is his voice lends itself to almost every genre of music. Listen to Exodus on here, very good song.. even Wild One, though a bit corny, is still good. PLUS he doesn't sound like crap in concert or with acoustics only, just a very good singer.
