i picked up a original xbox 2 days ago at a game world in the mall , the disc trey didnt work so i exchanged them and got a great working xbox ,its the best system ive had i have more fun playing this than with modern consoles

I personally don't get it. Why did a system that was more powerfult han PS2 and Gamcube which launched a year after PS2 die out in 2006? The PS2 still has new games coming out. Xbox could have easily handled ports of 360 games as the controller is almost the same, the graphics are better than anything the PS2 has to offer, and it had a built in hard drive without having to buy one which onlyt the fat PS2 offered.
@WebVMan because microsoft didnt want to make the mistake that sony did where people were buying the ps2 ports of new games and playing them on the ps3 to save $30. and they wanted to focus more attention to the 360. but i agree whole heartedly the origional xbox kicked ass. i still own 3 of em and they are soft modded and hardware modded to do more than the 360 and ps3..........................what now :)

At around the same time Xbox 360 was coming out and Microsoft wanted to focus more on the 360 rather than on the Original Xbox. Microsoft could re-release the Xbox in a smaller package (Xbox Slim or something, selling for maybe 100 bucks), cheaper game price tag (30 dollars maybe) and a new dashboard. I think it would sell pretty well.

It lived up to it's hype. The catalog of games available alone and good quality ones make it the best system ever made to DATE. Xbox can't boast this and Gamecube can't boast this either.

I still have my launch XBOX built by Flextronics Made In Hungary, was one of the lucky ones that got the 10 gig harddrive (the other plants had 8 gig). People used to bash XBOX for being the size of a VCR but the graphics were something special for it's time, controllers were too big and everyone wanted the japanese controller, good thing S controller came out here. I remember playing Halo multiplayer through gamespy tunnel before LIVE was released. I still remember the awe over doa3 and amped.

xbox is modding.. mounting emulators from amiga to psone ..upgrading harddrive to 750 gig atleast ftpying most of your commercial games in there launching it without the need of crappy dvd's and opening /closing the tray which is such a drag you'll still have the access to play even if the dvd^player died on you in condition that you'll leave it plugged anyway..not even mentioning movies and linux and a mame with a whole rom set(my favorite) ..gotta luv it man

Sure you can prefer one system over the other, but why only have one? I used to be a 360 fanboy, till I got my PS3, both are amazing consoles. Being a fanboy just holds you back from experiencing classics. I had Ps2/Xbox and both were awesome! Ps2 had God Of War and Gran Turismo, Xbox had Halo 2 and Forza.

This is when consoles were fun. Sadly, I got into PC gaming back at that time, because my mother purchased a Gateway PC. Got into Roleplaying games and never went back to consoling gaming until I got a Ps2.
The Xbox was powerful tech for its time; much more powerful than the PS2. Just look at its best games today - they still look nice. It goes to prove that when you put a PC in a console, developers take much more advantage of the tech, and for longer.
I rate the Xbox as my favourite 3D console. The 360 & PS3 just haven't delivered the games to blow my mind - in the way the original Xbox did.

anyway 360 was released 1 year older than PS3 so its normal to think they got higher sales but they getting older now and just wait for the release of GOD OF WAR (it is just the beggining of PS3's true poential)
People keep forgetting that unlike every other console, the Xbox was a "white box" console comprised of parts that MS did not own from Intel and Nvidia. All the hardware companies wanted a lot of money from MS to keep on manufacturing its proprietary parts so the Xbox would reach a point of not being price competitive with a (continually) cheaper revision of the PS2. MS learned that lesson with the Xbox 360 by owning it entirely so expect it to stick around as a platform.
Anyone with an xbox in the 01 or 02 model correct me if I'm wrong, I don't remember the xbox having as many units being as faulty as the 360. I think if the 360 had more reliable hardware and discs that stored more room, I think it would of had the same impact as the first xbox.
Microsoft just needs to get the n"quality" ack in to the next console, the overall design is good. Its the fact that they rushed to make the holiday season first a year ahead of time and really shot themsleves in the foot. Its a testament to how good the games are with people sticking a 360 after the RROD prolem.
The same reason why it beat the Dreamcast....hype and fanboys. I remember the PS2 launch had no games that were anything special. The Dreamcast had a ton of great games but everybody and their momma wanted a PS2.

I have a 360 but just recently started buying original xbox games that I miss playing on such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 007 Nightfire, 007 Everything or Nothing, Star Wars Jedi Academy, Batman Begins and Driver 3 I already own the original Halo 1, 2 and Multiplayer Maps
sultans got it the other way around, ps2 beat xbox, xbox360 beat ps3, cus xbox didnt bring on much games, and 360 brung heaps of kul games, but ps3 didnt make to many games, instead, letting other playstation 1 2 games play on it
I had my Xbox ever since it released in 2001. I would have to say it was one of the most revolutionary consoles that ever existed. It had the most impressive graphics update from 32/64 bit systems and it looked pretty freaking real to me back then. It had standardized harddrives so it could save games, shorten load times, have extra memory for the graphics, store music, and coupled with the ethernet port, had Xbox Live. This only continued with the 360.
to me its not the system itself that i find better..or the graffix or the extras that makes a console great. its the actual gamepleh...this is why i love my 360 more than ps3.....and also i dont like the ps3 controller...its to small for my hand....lol

I agree the DVD situation was unjust, although with a quick hack, you could use it without the remote.
But yes, that was a disadvantage.
Game quality? That's subjective, not measurable.
I could say Xbox had better...
Yes, PS2 had the most sales, but it was cheaper. Money talks.

3. I've had my Xbox since February 2008 and i've never had the RRoD. Either i'm lucky or considering the newew chipsets in modern 360's has a less chance of getting teh ringz that they've mostly cured it? RRoD isn't a good statement anymore, just like "PS3 HAZ NO GAEMS".

So fellow gamer, do not judge me by what I use to game. I have never looked at a microsoft game and truly recieved the fire in my heart to play it. with sony, JAK AND DAXTER, RACHET AND CLANK, RESISTANCE, GOD OF WAR, and now UNCHARTED 3.

the only reason is beacuse people could pirate the disc on it but it doesn't mean that they like it
although the situation is like that it still sold 22 million
anyway 360 was released 1 year older than PS3 so its normal to think they got higher sales but they getting older now and just wait for the release of GOD OF WAR (it is just the beggining of PS3's true poential)

People keep forgetting that unlike every other console, the Xbox was a "white box" console comprised of parts that MS did not own from Intel and Nvidia. All the hardware companies wanted a lot of money from MS to keep on manufacturing its proprietary parts so the Xbox would reach a point of not being price competitive with a (continually) cheaper revision of the PS2. MS learned that lesson with the Xbox 360 by owning it entirely so expect it to stick around as a platform.

Anyone with an xbox in the 01 or 02 model correct me if I'm wrong, I don't remember the xbox having as many units being as faulty as the 360. I think if the 360 had more reliable hardware and discs that stored more room, I think it would of had the same impact as the first xbox.

Microsoft just needs to get the n"quality" ack in to the next console, the overall design is good. Its the fact that they rushed to make the holiday season first a year ahead of time and really shot themsleves in the foot. Its a testament to how good the games are with people sticking a 360 after the RROD prolem.

Halo, Morrowind, KOTOR, KOTOR 2, Jedi Outcast (1st game), Conker Live and Reloaded, Prince of Persia, Halo 2, XIII, I can go on and on.

I had my Xbox ever since it released in 2001. I would have to say it was one of the most revolutionary consoles that ever existed. It had the most impressive graphics update from 32/64 bit systems and it looked pretty freaking real to me back then. It had standardized harddrives so it could save games, shorten load times, have extra memory for the graphics, store music, and coupled with the ethernet port, had Xbox Live. This only continued with the 360.
