I took private lessons from 4th grade through 8th grade and played all through High School and College, even got to go to Romania and play. I think you are doing great my dear, my goodness you're only 11, that's awesome. It's true that you need to gain more musical knowledge but that's what you're doing by playing. You need to jam with other musicians and listen to a good variety of music like, Frank Zappa, Gentle Giant, Return to Forever, Weather Report... well that should get you started.
