This is so confusing. In the States we call these M'n'Ms and they are made, I believe by your Mars company. For us Smarties are tangy powdery candies that come in rolls and if you didn't grow up with them I imagine they are actually quite nasty. Kind of like an antacid tablet but tasty.

@MCmister911 Yep. MnMs are the ones that "melt in you hand, not your mouth", which are chocolate with candy coating. Skittles are fruit candies that kind of look like MnMs, and have a candy shell, but inside it's fruit flavored chewy goodness. Smarties are sugar powder with flavoring, compressed into little tablets.
