  • This song was played during my grandfather's funeral. Needless to say, he was a fisherman :)

  • Celtic music just lightens me up.

  • Great song, but not an old one - it was written in 1966 by John Conolly (sorry righthandoffate!)

  • 1 dislike... Who are you?

  • the green bar is the size of his penis, the red bar the size of them who disliked :)

  • great job.written by a great english singer songwriter John Conolly and is sung by him on the album The Northern Trawl.

  • @brekugata While he may have made a rendition of it he most certainly did not write it. This song is centuries old.

  • Legend!

  • What are you arguing about? Haven`t you heard of `licecia poetica`? My friend -a great sailor and a wonderful man - just 69 years young - passed away 3 months ago.In bed. I reckon he`d rather have died on the sea! I MISS HIM !!! It`s a great song and - his favorite - and whenever I hear it I think of Mark, and every time I think of Mark I hear this song. So sad... Take care

  • This is the best recording of this song. I love listening to it while on the water and looking at the stars

  • wonderfull....

  • one person is not going to fiddler's green

  • Shite

  • @bonosMATE

    .... WHAT? :|

  • Guys, it's /folk music/ the whole point isit's up to interpretation - no version is the right one!

  • This is the best version according me, the chorus he goes a lot nicer here than in the life and other versions.

  • blankets, jumpers or oilskins or an old throw whats the difference its all the same in the song to its point ye'll not see him on the docks no more !!l lol

No more of the dockside be seen roflao this is funny its (no more at the docks ill be seen) .but im just say'n is all lol

  • If you don't see me in the summer lands, look for me with the cavaly on fiddlers green. Well be camped and on parade or training e'er day. But come round night with the pints and the whiskey singing auld songs.

  • Thanks Barney, God bless.

  • for three day someone under my name writes untrue things.........id love barney and the dubs.......´greetings from austria

  • It's Barney Mackenna, on the squeez box, and not John Sheahan (Plays), the Fiddle in this one.

  • tis song is probaly not from the dubs.........not from barney and all that that says lies

  • When is tis recorded?

  • God bless you Barney

  • barney singing.. john playin accordionand singing the chorus..ronnie,luke and a high pitched voice i can`t place singing..sounds like jim.. but not likely.. probably kirian

  • My father was at sea all his days. He loved this song and joked about going there on a regular basis. Is the lyric not, "oilskins and blanket"? Never heard jumpers before. Pure class though. Good post.

  • LOL I was just watchin a video where the band sang "oilskins and blankets" and I was like "Isn't the lyrics oilskins and jumpers"? HA HA I guess it depends on what version you're used to...

  • one person says blankets, the other backing him says jumpers!

  • is barney playin accordion aswell

  • Tis not Barney this time, its John Sheahan on concertina accordion.

  • @Pain1ess1991 Yeh, I think y're right. When it comes to squeezeboxes, Barney mostly plays melodeon. John plays concertina.

Additional note: In (English songwriter) John Connolly's original from about 1968 the lyric says "jumper", but in Irish pubs I often hear "blanket" sung.

Who cares? Great song, deservedly incorporated into the Tradition.

    Barney and John are heroes.

    C'mon Barney!!

  • Great music. I like this song. There is also a German song using this melody. the title is "wenn ich geh" sung by wolfgang petry.

  • I like this song. But this version is a little slow for me ;p

  • It's nigh perfect! - it'll grow on you.

Known this for 30 years or more.

  • play along in slightly sharp B, or C flattened a wee bit. It's a tweener, that just fits my voice there.

  • as a seaman myself i love this song.all the best from strangford ferry men big pat moore mick robin ray reilly alan . smart

  • seaman too brother, , in fact, I love all Dub's songs, all the best for all fishermen what I know, and others!

  • Class song. Love Barney singing

  • thanks for posting this great song. Barney at his best.

  • Wrap me up in my oil skins and jumper

No more of the dockside be seen

    Just tell me old shipmates

    I'm taking a trip mates

And I'll see you someday on Fiddler's Green.

  • correction, no more on the docks ill be seen.

    mark.

  • Thanks for that. I knew it didn't sound right.

  • @jameshlee17 If I die on the ocean and my parents get me buried in my fishing gear I'm haunting them! Not fond of being covered in herring scales for eternity lol

  • Great song. Heard Tommy Maken sing it in concert and it's been one of my favorites ever since.
