  • Biedermann could have won this race with or without the suit I believe. Even though the suit was a factor to his win, you can't deny that he does have speed. The only thing I absolutely hate about Biedermann is the 400 free in Rome 2009... BS. A great record beaten by the suit.

  • this was the race that banned the suits

  • lol cheat suit :P

  • @youalreadyknow2314 sorry for that, i knew that, but i think he could be better!

  • biedermann suck dicks !

  • bidermann is a steroid using cheating fuck. the 400 record is thorpes and the 200 is phelps. the record does not count if no one respects it therefore biedermann has no records

  • @mvisgay123 it was th suit, not steriods retard

  • @mvisgay123 too right

  • I can't say that biedermann wasn't a good swimmer,but it's really about the suit!!!

  • @lawrence51304 biedermann isnt bad, he rpolly wouldnt have won but he wouldve easily medaled and challenged phelps. just look at the 2011 200 free at worlds

  • let's don't talk about the suit, this thing make men swimmer look everridiculous and disgusting . but look really great on women :)

  • Biedermann is awesome the best swimmer on freestyle on our planet

  • phelps wrecked biedermen at the olympics the year before.... either he sucked in beijing or he trained rlly hard

  • @Swimmer2902

A lot of Americans say that Biedermann won because of suit, but no one says that in Beijing final Biedermann was swimming without swim cap and in adidas jammer...In Beijing final Phelps had 2 caps and full body LZR suit, which was the best suit at that time.I respect Phelps and he is awsome swimmer, but Biedermann is also great guy and great swimmer, show him some respect,if you make it to the olympics final and come 6th would you think you suck?

  • @DreamBigSwimStrong first of all 2 caps doesnt do anything but keep the cap on your head and seconds biederman was a wearing a full legskin so get your facts right

  • @Swimmer2902

sorry for the mistake, but what diference does it make, adidas was nothing against full body LZR...and swimmers wear 2 caps to minimise resistance of the water...i don't judge Michael but give Paul respect also because he's one awsome swimmer, and he won it fair against Phelps...

  • dude, every one of them started before the beep O_o

  • im a realy big fan of michael phelps but paul biederman is better in freestyle and phelps is better in butterfly ^^

  • i just wish more people would watch old races without the suits when people like thorpe hackett, van den hoogenband, klete keller and all the others raced with pure training and still broke many record

i myself believe(this is just my opinion) that thorpe's world record of 1:44.06 would still be standing if it weren't for the great advances in suit technology(again this is just my opinion)

i like the old races better when they were all in briefs

  • @splitkostanjeuma phelps did a 1:43.86 with a textile suit.

  • @ilike2eatt yeah i know but it still was a better suit than thorpe's but yeah that should be the record i hope fina realizes that and switches record back to before 2008

  • is it just me or did they false start? haha

  • @AgsProdX video - audio, bug

  • @AgsProdX the left with the strobe light. light travels fast than sound so its legal. im a swimmer that's how i know

  • @nextmichealphelps i know that im a great swimmer, but the light and sound are never that far apart.

  • @nextmichealphelps cant believe how stupid you are

  • @AgsProdX its you

  • @AgsProdX you play runescape :o

  • 0:58 So buff that he shook the camera

  • How's Bidermann doing now???

  • German coaches train swimmers to be efficient, efficient, efficient. Bidermann is the perfect example of that

  • fucking beautiful stroke

  • a german monster, terrific power!

  • I just don't know that Ian Thorpe has it in him anymore to be able to get close to these guys. Once he swapped coaches he wasn't even coming close to his own world record in the 200m. He kept saying he could go faster and create better times, but we never got to see that, then he retired. I'm just not sure he will get anywhere near the world records, Phelps and the German swimmer (don't know his name) have created and he will have to if he wants any chance at getting a medal placing,

  • Can't fucking wait for London 2012, Biedermann, Phelps and Thorpe all the same race.

  • @Deadlycolli That would be the fucking race of the century. Also the guys from france who are really good in the 200m freestyle.

  • What if Thorpe was there? That would've made it really interesting!

  • Michael phelps was never that strong of a freestyler ;\,

  • are they breathing every stroke? xD

  • Swim suits don't get up at 5:00 am and do weights, conditioning and all that's required to be the best. Phelps got beat on this day by a better conditioned swimmer. But I have no doubt that Michael will bounce back and take Biedermann down the next time they meet in international competition.

    He'll be back........

  • seems like in almost every race, racers are shaped in a >>> fashion, with the ppl in the middle leading.

  • @ilikewiigames Thats on purpose , for heats at swim meets the fastest qualifier is in lane 4 and the slowest on the out side lanes

  • @ilikewiigames That is because the middle lanes are reserve for the fastest people, Olympic pools tends to have 6~8 lanes, so for the 6 lanes its usually 3/4 that are the fastest, for the 8 lane pools its 4/5

  • Not a chance he could beat him without the suit....biedermann dropped from 1.43 and change to 1.42 dead in 8 months?? Cmon guys...

  • Thorpe is gonna smash Biedermann in 2012

  • @DarthMuse Thorpe will be very very lucky to even make it TO london, he has practically no chance of staying with phelps or biedermann...

  • @percdann Thorpe is a much better swimmer then Biedermann and that everyones on level playing with without the swimsuit debacle do really believe Phelps got beat here?

  • Super Biedemann, Lets say the swimsuit gives him .50 of a second, still

.45 of a second below the WR.

  • screw bidermann at the olympic in 08 he was in lane 2 and finished 7th

there is no way he could reach micheal phelps' point in 1 year phelps was just beaten by technology so hes still the winner of the race tchnically

  • Does swimming regularly make you grow taller?

  • @TheLeilisa LOL, on how many different videos are you gonna ask this question?

  • so suddenly everybody is a swim expert?

  • another thing: Bowman has to accept that someday there will come some new boy that is going to tear apart Michael's times.

  • I ask Bob Bowman: so, what will it take for you to accept that Michael looses a race? according to Bowman, if a swimmer improves his performance in less time that it took michael, it is impossible.

  • what i really dislike about the whole controversy over the suit was Bob Bowman's reaction. It was unprofessional and childish. "Oh, since my pupil lost I will threaten FINA to ban suits or else Michael is not going to race". Just like good old Schumacher used to do in F1: "if I loose, disqualify whoever is kicked my ass, or else I will leave F1"

  • Biederman ist echt ein Welklasse Schwimmer.

    Germany #1

  • beidermann has thorpe stroke

  • 'Biederman had a terrible start, that's one advantage Phelps has right away. He had a great start...'

Ehm... Not to be offending you, but they all had a false start ;)

  • @Rac1ng4Live no, the sound was lagging... something was wrong...

  • @Rac1ng4Live no, the audio on this vid was lagging behind the image. find a better version and you will see they did not false start. and dont you think the comentators would have noticed if they all had a false start, not to mention the judges.

  • @adamlewis934 Ever heard of sarcasm?

  • Damn, everybody false started. :06

  • @slowore no, the sound was just lagging on the video. it happens a lot with universal sports videos on youtube

  • biedermans strokes seem to be going forward, phelps look like they are too curvy

  • what was phelps' time?

  • OMG ,I love Paul Biedermann :x :X he is soooo good :)

  • nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • lol they were in the air when the buzzer went off, DQ??

  • @nleskiw Just delayed video coordination with the sound.

  • biedermann beat phelps in this, hands down. but i dont think biedermann shouldve gotten that 400 free record, thropes was just .01 slower and that was without the x glide or whatever biedermannw as wearing

  • Biedermann just has the better stroke, deserved this win. Wondering how they both'll do in a normal suit!

  • Get real people phelps did not get beat by the suit he got bet by beidermann who had a better stroke and superior endurance

  • Ian Thorpe was the last person to beat Phelps at athens 2004 i dont Biedermann is anythink special the suits definetly had somethink to do with this record 1:42 is crazy for a freestyle record in 200m

  • GERMAN POWER!!!

  • biedermann's stroke is awesome!!! smooth , almost perfect.... I think it has nothing to do with the suit.... anyway… doesn’t USA has the better technology in the world??? (gosh, was that English right?)

  • lol, watch at the time screen after the start :D

btw: these are 2 very good swimmers, I think not the suite won the race, it was the faster stroking of biedermann,if phelps would have brought his arms to the front that fast,he would have won this race.

  • @disneaded his arms the way they are dont allow him to move his arms fast. why do you think hes changing his stroke?

  • @disneaded the suit broke the record anyone who doesnt think that is nutz 1:42 already come on its freaking joke im so angry at those suits

  • When Phelps had the fastest suit on the market, no one mentioned anything of him breaking records, now did they?

  • @kylerory ... yeah yeah.... just now when he loses... I do agree

  • @kylerory I agree

  • see this is what good concentration can do...beat the best of the best. Beidermann went from 1:47 to 1:42, that's a great improvement.

  • it's wierdd seeing phelps 2nd.

  • Paul now did a 3.46 for the 400m freestyle in Budapest..... GG

  • @RtRdOh33 ?!:D

    3.46?!

1:45 and that was the fastest time in this year...faster than phelps

  • What I don't understand is how did Biedermann in 2008 finished in a time of 1:47.09 then 1 YEAR later goes 1:42.00. To me that is unheard of epically for a national competitor. Phelps could not possibly pull that one off.

  • @warrenG54 Just take an look to the suits. He just wore an 'old' suit at the Olympics, and in 2009 he wore the best suit possible. That's around 3 seconds allready. And improving 2 seconds in one year is possible. certainly at that age.

  • i love when michael phelps gets beat.

  • no offense, but i think beidermann is kind of ugly

  • @trevermark1 euh... and phelps too :)

  • @trevermark1

Right, and Phelps is a hottie, or what? Haha...

  • is it just me or did they all start BEFORE the start beep?

  • @asterix645 thie video is asynchorn, audio is delayed. take a look at this video, they didn't start false. look for the video "Schwimm WM 2009 Rom - Paul Biedermann vs. Michael Phelps - 200 m Freistil - Männer Finale - ARD"

  • @asterix645 rofl

  • It's good to the sport! ^^

Now we will see beatifuls races.

  • phelps started to "fade" (hahaha) the last 25, paul got stronger

  • swimmers that need suits are pathetic

ps: the all false started xD

  • Phelps needed to go out harder. In his butterfly races, especially the 100 fly, he can outdo everyone on the second half of the race. However, in freestyle races, the rest of the competition can hold their own endurance wise, IE why Phelps has never been good at the 400 free. Biedermann won the 400 free in world record time, which means that hes moving down for the 200 free. If he's ahead the after the first 100 and this is a shorter distance than what hes used to, then hes untouchable.

  • i hope bidermann goes faster than phelps this summer without the suits. The all you phelps lovers can't blame the suits, but u guys will probably say they weren't head to head so thats why phelps didn't go as fast as he did.

  • yeah this is bullshit last year he was even close to 142 96 probably like 1:44 or 1:45

  • Paul Biedermann is on the juice

  • Damn, im a huge fan of Michael Phelps but Biedermann's stroke was soo smooth and perfect!

  • @XxKingJoJoxX @hotjulio123 You can only really compare stroke style and endurance when both athletes are wearing the same suits. Having done triathlons for years, I can tell you, my suit looks incredible the whole distance when I'm wearing a buoyant wet suit than not. My stroke will more quickly break down when I'm swiimming in jammers because of the lack of buoyancy and streamline.

  • wonder what Steriods Paul was taking at the worlds, he wasnt that quick in China or Melbourne, Phelps was at his best, and for someone to take 6 months away from swimming and finishing in a highly respectabale time and win silver, i thought Phelps did well, Biedermann right place right time, who' knows who'll win next time

  • @butterflystyler83 just saying but i think Paul just studied Phelps free stoke and changed his stroke to be better than Phelps or rather to match it

  • can someone tell me where Tae wan Park is in this event, didnt he make the final, hardly any finalist here from beijing apart from Phelps and Biedermann

  • @butterflystyler83 and Basson down in lane 8

  • Biedermann would have won if he was wearing a lzr. We'll see next FINAs who wins.

  • Deadlycolli, how can you say that, when even Biedermann himself reckons the suit is worth 0.7 per 50m. Everyone else did improve with the suit and clearly Biedermann is the second best in the event, but he shouldn't be beating Phelps. Biedermann's massive improvement was in part due to having never used the LZR, the loss of which will obviously make Phelps slower too; however, Phelps is the only person to go under 1.44 in a textile suit, and I see no evidence that Biedermann or anyone else could

  • if its purely the suit caused Biedermann to improve by 4 seconds then why hasnt every1 else improved by 4 seconds or over? Pretty much everyone else is wearing those suits as well and they haven't improved that much. Face it, although Phelps is the greatest swimmer ever, he's clearly met his match in the 200 free. Despite the fact that Phelps had a better dive and better turns, plus having that brilliant dolphin kick, Biedermann was STILL able to beat him. His freestyle stroke is clearly better.

  • @Deadlycolli

it's obvious that by just comparing freestyle stroke,Phelps is the not the best in the world(e.g. iAN tHORPE,Biedermann)...The only adv that he has is great underwater kick.

  • my goodness. even with the suit, biedemann's stroke is gorgeous. ignore the suit, and look at the strokes side by side. based on technique, and endurance (biedemann came down from the 400) biedemann still might win that race if they were both wearing poly suits.

  • @hotjulio123 Just as an opinion Biderman kept his endurance in his last 50; most swimmers don't do that and you're right it doesn't matter about the suit :)

  • @hsclane4 ha. thanks for agreeing with me. as a side note. Daniela Izotov, and a couple other ruskies in the final? Young kid, dropped a bit of time leading up to his bronze medal. Can we say his time was due to a 'super suit'? or will he just pwn all.

  • phelp's suit was Polyamide/Elasthane with a 50% polyurethane coating, the difference in the race wasn't the suits.

  • @hotjulio123 You can only really compare stroke style and endurance when both athletes are wearing the same suits. Having done triathlons for years, I can tell you, my suit looks incredible the whole distance when I'm wearing a buoyant wet suit than not. My stroke will more quickly break down when I'm swiimming in jammers because of the lack of buoyancy and streamline.

  • @hotjulio123 Also, he bettered his record by more than 4 seconds in one year. The same year those suits were sanctioned in competition. Coincidence?

  • @Gynecologist Sorry, who's still ranked inside the top 5 for both events a year later? Mr. Biedermann. who's stroke essentially looks the same? Mr. Biedermann. Who's ranked ahead of phelps in the 200 free? Mr. Biedermann. There's a giant difference between the illegal suits and actual wetsuits. Not really comparable.

  • @hotjulio123 phelps gets more distance per stroke than biederman even without the suit. therefore, phelps stoke is better. i'm sure if they both wore the same suit and phelps was in better shape during these world champs, he could have beaten beiderman

  • @adamlewis934 any swimmer would know that SR is much more important than dps in a 200. Particularly LCM.

  • @hotjulio123

Don't forget that the suits also affected endurance as they held the swimmers core. You're right though, cracking technique form Biedemann.

  • I'm sorry MVPacMan23, but Biedermann is the better freestyler. His technique is definitely better. I'm not saying Phelps isn't a great freestyler, he is. It's just a suit doesnt make that much of a difference and you do know that the lazer Phelps was wearing has patches of the same material that Biedermann was wearing. It would make a difference in the time, but only up to about .3 to .4 of a second at most. Plus, look at the way Paul swam the race, his latter half is far stronger than michael's

  • Maybe because he wasn't as tired because he was wearing a cheat-suit? You do not improve 4 seconds in a year, and that's what it is exactly. That's a suit.

  • hasnt lost since 2004 WTF??

Didnt crocker beat him in the 100 fly in 2005?????

  • @CoolGuy18235 hes talking about 200 free

  • Paul is the greatest, what a fight.

  • If the suits played that much of a factor in Biedermann's victory, why was he the only one who beat Phelps? Why didn't Basson beat Phelps too(Basson was faster than Biedermann in Beijing)? I don't think you can drop 7s from just wearing a suit alone. I know they give an advantage but in Biedermann's case, there's more to it (TRAINING) than just the suit.

  • @cldfsn then explain to me why they were banned...? gg..

  • Sorry, let me clarify. I agree that the suits do give one an advantage, butt it takes more than a suit to improve by that much. The suits were banned because FINA decided to screw up and open Pandora's box in the first place.

  • In my opinion Biedermann is the better Freestyler. I know he was wearing a better suit than Phelps but that was a quite alot to take off the world record. His stroke is better too in my opinion, look how far he stretches with his arms, its crazy. Phelps is still the king though.

  • He did that because he can stay on top of the water more hanks to the suit. Phelps can't because he's NOT CHEATING Get that through your head. You simply cannot drop 7 seconds in a year no matter what you do.

  • @MVPacMan23 biedermann floated because he's not a pothead LOL

  • Biedermann is bollocksed now his suit has gone.

    Long Live Michael Phelps.

  • @brysonhappyface any person who knows anything about swimming knows that any suit cant create that much of a distance in time in a 200. I like Michael Phelps but we have to admit that he has found his nemesis, in the freestyle at least.

  • @MARMOFLASH Any person that knows anything about swimming will know that Biedermann finished 5th in the Olympic Finals in a time of 1.46. Now I know he would have been training etc, but to gain 4 seconds, in one year? Thats a lot. I'm not saying he's not a good swimmer, I'm just saying that he was aided by the suit, just like everyone else that wore it.

  • Im pretty sure everyone else in that final except phelps had a supersuit on, yet he wrecked all of them too didn't he? Hes a beast. Im an American but Biedermann is just strait up better at the 200 free. Phelps has better turns but Biedermanns stroke is just so nice he cant be stopped.

  • @MARMOFLASH the suit makes a big difference, roughly .5 seconds per 50 do the math

  • 25,7 sorry -.-

  • 24,70 on the last 50m !!!!

  • Comment removed

  • hmmm weird to see beiderman beats hes own record by 7 seconds and beat thorpe record and then beat phelps i think you gotta ask questions or get rid of those fucking suit its redicouls

  • from 1st january 2010 all kind of suits are forbidden

  • @Artegr4 All kind of suits..? So, they have to swim naked... hahaha

  • I wanted to see phelps reaction to his second place :S

  • He didn't have a reaction.. he just frowned a little and got out of the pool.

  • That's my german boy!

But I think that Phelps will improve. Just like Paul and we'll see a nice race at the 2012 olympics.

  • With all the times in swimming, that

were way to fast, it was about time

Fina put it's foot down. It was getting

way out of hand. Biederman improved

to much to quick. The world will see

if Beiderman will still be as quick with-

out the X-Glide suit. Now swimming

will get back to where it should really

be back to the talent of the swimmer

    not the suit.

  • I agree. But Beiderman's stroke is so long, powerful, and efficient (arm out of the water, then a straight reach forward, while Phelps looked to have a bit more of an arcing motion) - it's just perfect - that it's hard to image that he wouldn't have beaten Phelps here even if they wore same suits. It will be interesting to see what happens.

  • which jammer is better?

    arena powerskin r-evolution

    or

    speedo lzr racer?

  • LZR. Powerskin is older. But honestly, if you can find one just go for the FS-PRO, there isn't much difference between the two and the PROs are much cheaper.

  • thanks a lot, i could order a fs pro which ends up bein 15€ cheaper than LZR.

but i heared rumour that arena is releasing a new suit late february/early march.

so imma wait a bit ;)

  • the thing i dont get is why FINA waited until this year to ban the suits..?

  • Yes you're right, it'll be really interesting!

  • With no suit, this year will tell us who the REAL swimmers are! No fancy LZR or Arena etc. etc. I would love to see Phelps/ Biedermann and Phelps/Cavic race this year with the jammers on! Who would win I wonder?

  • Danila Izotov has a big future. I know that he's only 18 years old... He swims 100 free in sc meter pool in 45 and he swam 200 free in 1:40:08 in sc.. (without a full bodysuit) I think he's a big competitor of Phelps and Biedermann...

  • you know what

an X-GLIDE suit is 60 hundreths of a second faster than the LZR-RACER 1.

Thats 2.40 seconds faster in a 200 freestyle race, so phelps should have won that race.

Biedermann swam in 1.46 or 47 in beijing

he just, can´t swim 4 or 5 seconds faster in less than a year.

    SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH

    (ARGENTINA)

  • LOL! Where did you get that data? Look guys, I'm a big Phelps fan too, but Biedermann just swam better than him this time.

And yes, he did swim much slower in Beijing BUT he was not wearing a cap and used a shi*** Nike legskin. His stroke also changed DRAMATICALLY.

But who knows, I could be wrong. We'll find out later this year I guess.

  • @macdicas

yes, he improved his swim a lot

but the suit also helped him A LOT

phelps is just going to smashed him this year, LOL I WOULD LOVE TO SEE BIEDERMANN´S FACE

    SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH

    (ARGENTINA)

  • the suit has nothing to do with this race. Phelps was just plain and simple out swam.

  • with or without it he would have won he is just better than phelps and if you watch menschen bilder emotionen 2009 he explains a lot there about his suit hehehe it´s kinda a cool that a german bet an american in swimming

  • i think the audio is messed up because everybody dived before the beep

  • if everybody would be naked it would be kinda fair^^

no,let's be honest: if everybody had worn the same equipment, it would be fair, there you're right, but if you're not such a pro swimmer, and you have to swim against others who spend their money in those things, you feel worse, because it's not fair

  • @disneaded look at the suits man... biedermann had a suit and phelps had a suit...

  • @larsanien

suits can be different,if biederman wears a x-glide and phelps a normal speedo, who would wear the better one?

  • @disneaded phelps wears a lzr racer.. so fuckit.. if he would be better he would have been the winner... well see this year...

  • @larsanien

I don't say he's better, I just say what would be fair

  • naked lol

    thanks for the laugh

    totally agree with u

  • Biederman says himself his suit is better, that's not cheating. Phelps could wear the same suit, non one forces him to wear Speedo -- except that they pay him a lot of money. There was a time when his outfit was the best. Now it's outdated. I think that the best athletes should compete with the best equipment, only then it is fair - no tennis player has a wooden racket.

  • not cheating but he has an advantage
