people don't get that you see the same kind of challenger bashing go on in some of the iron chef japan episodes and just as well you see challengers in those episodes make their food with the judges in mind. Most of those judges lean pretty heavily towards the classical Asian dishes presented. Sometimes they even mention that they choose winners based on "personal preference". Forget the fact that whether its filmed in Japan or America, its all just for entertainment anyway.
@MyAura Chef Simon wouldnt put up wid His BS...Chef Simon is a little more outspoken then most iron chefs...same wid Cat Cora.and batali, great chefs in Iron Chef america history...i think they woulda spoke up if this Vincent Pastore character (the fat slob judge),woulda said somethin negative, they woulda spoke up,kudos to Morimoto for keepin his cool, when at times,he did look pissed off bout the comments made.
the fat judge is annoying. he's a soup person, a pizza person, he's a custard person and what's next? oh he don't like raw fish and he's very uncultured -.-"
Masaharu Morimoto: Second to None. Not even Gordon Ramsay, the Great White Shark Marco Pierre White or other great chefs such as Hubert Keller, Graham Elliot, Wyile Dufrense or Art Smith. Simple as that.
I have never hated the judges as much as this battle. A daytime host, and some actor that would have probably only enjoyed a slice of Round Table's pizza and a beer. It's a huge insult to these amazing, amazing Chefs. It may not be the judges' fault, but whomever was picking them failed, big time.
This was BS. Like everyone's saying-- that oaf of a sopranos guy screwed Morimoto. This is not to say that Wolfgang Puck didn't do well, he probably deserved the win. But c'mon-- at least get judges that can actually appreciate a variety of foods from different cultures. I mean-- why get a guy who won't even try sushi to judge a Japanese chef's dishes?! That's ridiculous. On top of that-- THE HOST OF TRADING SPACES?! WTF DOES SHE KNOW?! Two out of the three judges knew jack sh*t about food.
Holy crap on a cracker, why would they get Vincent Pastore to judge? Who ever was in charge of picking the judges failed! Just cos he's huge and ever so slightly famous doesn't mean he knows real food!
It's as if the people at Iron Chef said to themselves, "oh no! Steingarten is sick and no one can come on such short notice. Let's just dredge the barrel of troglodytic and obscure actors with atrocious table manners and see who pops up!"
Yeah I agree with everyone, Let Morimotto speak, if you're gonna do anything then put up subtitles. No need to dub the guy, he speaks with an accent but he speaks better than some americans!!! Big Puss was just trying something new, give the guy a break, it was out of his element but that's why he was there.
Yeah, it pisses me off how they dub Morimoto. His English is just fine. Use subtitles if you must, but don't dub him with some goofy ass voice! And that Sappranos judge is a total douche.
A critic should be open to every kind of dish and should not mention what he doesn't like. He is suppose to judge food not tell what he likes or dislikes. Secondly if you are a food critic aren't you suppose to know by taste which ingredient is which, I mean thats what wine tasters do.
God, the critic on the left, the large brute is so ignorant and obnoxious, I don't get how he was even a critic at all! It was insulting how he wouldn't even try the sashimi Morimoto made. Obviously a professional chef would know how to safely prepare raw foods!
why do they always invite people who aren't qualified to critique food to judge these chefs? That to me is the biggest WTF about this otherwise amazing show
I hate how they dub over Morimoto. He's not that difficult to understand and the subtitles in English from Battle Trout were totally sufficient for those that have trouble with his accent.
@woody1445 ill second that. A critic that doesnt want to try and know how to appreciate an unfamiliar/foreign flavor(or rather practice eg. sashimi) is probably not qualified to judge when great chefs like morimoto cook.
@woody1445 i agree. sometimes the qualifications of some of the judges is pretty questionable/ on this show. dude doesnt even like things that arent cooked... how are you gonna judge a japanese chef fairly?
@pisces38 yeah! Why on earth would they ask someone who is so clearly really picky and a know-nothing about food to be on the show? Paige Davis doesn't seem really knowledgeable but she is curious and open and wants to know about it. This other guy... geez. I'm kind of picky, too, so if I ever lost my marbles and consented to judge I'd still try to evaluate it apart from my own small-world tastes...
