Thatfatboiforu... I own an STi and you can NOT put more power to the front wheels. You can split the torque from 50/50 to 60/40 and in between but at the most 60% to the rear wheels. 90% of people who own an STi leave the setting in auto mode where the car is constantly sensing which tires have traction and put the power to those wheels. I'm sure that's what ken block sets his car to, or 50/50 which locks the center diff.

hes such a good driver i wish subaru would have ceped doing the wrc and he would still be on the subaru team but on subaru quite so now hes on the ford team
you know, using corn as a fuel is... no where near as good for the environment as we make it out to be. Uses up more energy to make than gasoline and you need more of it to get the same power out of the engine. Then when you take into consideration the ethics of using a food as fuel and the global position and abuse of the commons, it really isn't the right answer imho.
E85 brings a bigger bang than usual 95/98 octane. But it takes more E85 to cover the same distance as 10l 95/98. But if you're serious... Notromethane...
@TheGrim666 The problem I've heard with Nitrometh is that its not real easy to come by depending on where you live. E85 is a good idea, the problem is like you said, it takes more to cover the same distance. In street cars it means worse mileage and more fillups. until they can come out with the motor that can top and tie regular fuel, I'll stick with regular fuel.
@supaphreak2045 E85 is Awesome if you want to make big power without having to pay for expensive Race Gas or have to worry about storing a 55 gallon drum at your house. If you are looking for gas mileage then look elsewhere, but for the added performance and how clean it keeps the engine, I'll stick with my E85!
E85 is awesome stuff if the car is tuned properly for it. You actually have a lesser chance of detonation with it. Downsides are that it burns more fuel, but it burns the fuel more efficiently. I can't wait to build a race car and have access to E85.
E85 is good man!! my brother used it in his 450r until we found that VP is so much better, but damn is it expensive.. E85 has to be good cause it is made from corn and so is alcahol.. so yeah. You should try what Big Black did in his Pinto see how that works for ya,haha
I dunno if you read my original post correctly. How much does it cost you to fill up your tank? Im not saying you can't get power out of it. It just seems you need to use a lot more fuel to get power. Filling up on 87 gas is probably a lot cheaper than E85 and 98. I don't have a super car so I won't really notice a difference in power either, my wallet will just stay full longer and so will my tank, SIMPLE.
funny thing is, here ethanol is 89 octane, and regular gas is 86, and they cost the same, so it doesn't cost more at all, and it DOES burn cleaner, and if anything gives more power, aswell as cleans your engine a bit
we dont talk about octane , but about 85% of ethanol with 25 % of gas, and if you have 95 or 98 octane, it was because you are much higher over the sea than other
You mean more power, as long as you have the fuel system to support it. The octane rating of Ethanol is higher than most other pump gas which lets you run more boost/timing/compression
ALL subaru's, WRX STI FORESTER OUTBACK are AWD, all time, no 4x4 no FWD or RWD, symmetrical AWD and its glorious (i've owned a wrx and now an STI both modded and unstoppable in the snow)
@ViperVenomACR after the 90's you cant find any Subaru that doesn't come with standard AWD. The STI's do have a customizable center differential that you can use to put more power to the front or back. Thats how Ken does the drifting.
There are plenty of fast E85 cars out there (8.75@16x MPH in AWDMotorsprts evo) plus it is cheap, even with the 40% increase required for the same power, and the 104 effective octane rating. The only problem I have with it is the methods being used to make it, and what the base material is for it (corn, rather than sugar cane or switchgrass). I'll be using E85 in my drag car, along with 3 Bosch 044 pumps in parallel running through a -12 feed line. Floor it, and watch the gauge drop...
BS! They did it because e85 has a lower intake temp, which allows you to run less timing and more boost safely on the engine. He did it for more safe horse power.
I remember hearing a story somewhere. This guy had a car tuned for E85 and went to a gas station where there's someone there to pump the gas for you. He said, Make sure it's E85. She asks why. He says, because that's I want in here. She says, and I quote, "You're making an awful big deal about what fuel I put in, it's not like it's gonna blow your motor or something". LOL
Sorry to ask such questions but to what extend will i be able to use ethanol on my car? What i mean is, must the car be fully modified then i can use ethanol? Can i use it on stock cars?
There are differences. Ethanol is an alcohol and alcohol reacts differently with gasoline, moisture and cold weather. The cold is especially important. You need about 15 percent gasoline so the vehicle will start easily in cold weather. That's why you have E85 or 85 percent ethanol.
Some who use alcohol in race engines worry about the corrosive possibilities especially with aluminum alloy heads or block.
I run e85 on my holset HX35 97 tsi talon, and pump is such a joke if you want preformance. With E85 you can run lean as hell, haha a safe 12.0:1 a/f at 30psi and 19* of timing and no knock. And it is only 2 bucks a gallon in illinois, can't beat it.
Not the sole reason but it contributed. It turns out that Ken has some green in him. He doesn't hug trees. He tries to avoid them during rallies!! It's not a black and white issue. You can have a green conscious and still love racing.
Yea, ethanol has a significantly higher octane than pump gas, but it also has a significantly lower energy density, so you use a lot more ethanol making the same power
When you use ethanol you use about 20% more fuel, but ethanol is way cleaner than gasoline and way cheaper. Here in Brazil we have cars that use both fuels (ethanol and gasoline), and it´s always cheaper use ethanol.
Actually its equally bad for the enviroment as gasoloine is. Although its true it has less emmisions from cars, the process to make it is absurddly dirty, and in the long run it ends up having the same impact on the enviroment as using gas.
Not only is it tough on parts... but pure alcohol simply makes it tough to start the car. Research shows you need about 15 percent gasoline to just get the thing up and running.
i agree, i'm a petrol head but i consider the problem of energy very important, especially for cars...ethanol will be the only way to use today's engines when petrol run out (with little modifications of course)...the problem is that ethanol actually is expensive to produce and it release less energy than the energy he use to be produced but who care? it's clean and have 113 RON of octanes! green is convenient!
In a world that can't produce enough food to feed it's population, growing corn to produce fuel for our cars doesn't sound like a good idea.

parts of south america are all ready mostly E85 since the 70's oil embargo
its cheaper than gas
it runs cooler and has better knock protection than gas
but you need bigger injectors and better delivery and a bigger tank to go the distance
green is just a buzz word
independant economy and no more reliance on foreign oil should be our direction in america
