My dads father played music in a swamp pop band, "The Blanchard Brothers" with his brothers and nefews and they played this song often cookie & the cupcakes and many other good swamp pop songs! Swamp pop will live forever in my heart and I hope many others!

The best song to dance to EVER! I saw this band in person at the Armory Hall dance in Port Arthur, Texas. I was a very young teenager at the time, and my door ticket won a little 9 volt red transistor radio that was presented to me by Cookie and the Cupcakes! Wow! What great memories!

This is a greaaaat song and slow dance memory (ies)--In Albuquerque, as I was walking into the Woolworth downtown, Mathilda had just started to be played over the speaker system--I headed to the back of the store and brought the record. In some neighborhoods here, you can still hear it on summer nights, when there is live jammin going on--my son now 30 learned to play it and Sleep Walk for me--he was in a music store and started to play Mathilda and an "oldster" like me became to accompany him.

I remember this song very well. Had a couple older brothers who had a band and this was one of my favorites of the songs they did. Very catchy' beat.  One of the first songs I learned to play on a guitar

Yes, it's a nice song and still played on oldies radio programs. "Mathilda" made it to #47 on the Billboard Chart in 1959. What is a sock hop w/o "Mathilda?"
