Regardless of Tom Cruise, the movie was still good. The supporting cast was excellent, such as Jamie Parker and Christian Berkel. The story was very good and I think they did it justice. Although Tom Cruise isnt cut out to play Stauffenberg, and I think they should have gotten somebody else, you have to admit he did look a lot like him.

Everyone needs to see the movie Valkyrie, then everyone would know that not every Nazi was a 'dedicated socialist' as they called them. And I beg to differ that this attempt was a complete failure because it made Hitler so paranoid that he killed many of his highest ranking officers including Rommel who was the most celebrated general on the German side. He killed so many of his most brilliant generals that it's no surprise he fell 9 months later. Stauffenburg and the others did more than fail.

My honour and respect to Count von Stauffenberg. However, fact is that he messed up. He was in such a hurry to get back to Berlin that he didn't stay back to finish the work. He should have stood nearby, waited for the explosion and been the first to run in to finish off Hitler if by chance he had not been killed.
It is remarkable ihow lax security around Hitler was. Apparently there were side doors to the Reichs Chancellery that were unguarded. A man willing to die could have killed Hitler.

@MrEVNZ I suppose he had to be there because he was General Fromm's Chief of Staff in charge of the Home Army. With Fromm not "on board", without Stauffenberg giving the orders, Operation Valkyrie, a plan approved by Hitler, could not be put into action.
However, when you think about it, it was an extremely haphazard operation. All one had to do was walk up to Hitler and detonate an American type granade.

Regardless of Tom Cruise, the movie was still good. The supporting cast was excellent, such as Jamie Parker and Christian Berkel. The story was very good and I think they did it justice. Although Tom Cruise isnt cut out to play Stauffenberg, and I think they should have gotten somebody else, you have to admit he did look a lot like him.

the second problem is, that the resistance members where most often ordinary soldiers or even people working in an office job. I think no one of them was a great sniper... and you shouldn't forget that the german forces had to fight out of germany, so most good snipers where on the eastern front.

Also, people in the resistance couldn't ask a wehrmacht sniper for help... the wehrmacht itself was just a tool in their plan - and they didnt wanted them to know about their plan. But lets pretend they have had the chance to assassinate hitler that way... who tells them that the sniper hits his target? I think a bomb in a small room in a bunker is the most effective and most relieable way to kill him.

Theres nothing stauffenberg could do from the beginning, we all have to remember Hitler did the EXACT same thing stauffenberg did, by trying to take over berlin via coup, and it also failed for him, so don't you think Hitler would have been smarter to prevent any such bombings against him as chancellor, the table that bomb was placed which was in the bag was STRICTLY made to resist explosion blasts!!!!!!
