Wonderful to see such sisterly love and to hear them talk passionately about English folk music. I'm a Scot, and a bit Irish, but I have for many years recognised that the great English folk traditition is in danger of being overlooked. All music is folk music, becauase it is written by folk to be listened to by folk, and it captures the spirit and events of folk's lives! The format varies, but we pick and choose. This is a truly insightful band' fronted by two beautiful and wonderful sisters.
these two with the band are the real thing coca cola is just a poor substitute came across this band by total accident and very glad i did love them lots....nuff said!!
Love the King Crimson cover. Wonderful. Cute funny English accents. Good stuff team. I play in a band with my twin brother. So familial bands always please me in some way. :)
@pwpurnell p.s. Paul Morley is think was very negative in this interview...cheer up mate & give the girls praise for being a little different to pop culture.... with the whole "Vinatage" culture coming back...I feel with the right heat / push they could be HUGE!
@pwpurnell I disagree, and think he was giving them a lot of respect in a serious interview, and they seemed to be pleased with the way it was going throughout. Paul Morley isn't interested in mainstream culture, but in interesting and exciting new acts.
What Becky says about Rachel is very true, on the Testament of Patience Kershaw you can almost picture Rachel down the pit pushing the coal wagons.
It was interesting when they were talking about people not knowing about English Folk music because I didn't really until I listened to Mike Harding on Radio 2. Had been a fan of the Irish stuff for ages, but kinda wrote off the English for some reason.
their subject matter is admirable, the suffering of unskilled workers etc .... we should never forget how our ancestors suffered in lining the pockets of their 'masters' ......
The warmth and enthusiasm that comes off the sisters is so contagious - in interviews as well as in performance. The Unthanks are an absolute treasure.
Thanks Girls for the interesting interview, and to Paul for allowing them to tell their story,and not pushing your own ego,like many other interviewers do.You are so right about the baggage that comes with admitting you like Folk music,and English at that !It's just ignorance and more commercial exposure to talents like your own will hopefully change these predujices.

Well she does sing a little flat, but it does not bother me, it kind of adds to the color of the music.
I love Jackie Mclean and he use to have this tendency to play sharp. Did not bother me at all.

@mrdog66
She supposed to sing a little flat. In music it's called anotating.

Emporer's new clothes strikes again. Can someone admit that Becky "sings" flat all the time!

@LstCowboy What's to admit? It's called 'anotating'.
