This just happens to be one of the absolute best examples of storytelling in a 2d game ever, with an equally emotionally charged soundtrack to boot.

To the comments about the picture, that is what makes older generation gaming the greatest. You as the player have to use your mind and imagine the finer details. Celes is just as likely to look like this as anything else. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

There are few people in the world she could truly trust and one of the closes people dies..

I would say that is pretty damm sad.

I think that video games as (dare I say) "an art form" is devolving. The video game business is becoming TOO much like a business, IMO. Of course there are plenty of exceptions, but as far as Final Fantasy and all of Square's other efforts....meh.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. You're mentioning of how she may be feeling and looking though could really be what the artist was going for though.
