Is it just me or does this feature a skit on the Italian Fascist anthem "Giovinezza" Is Trenet poking fun? What is the song about? Can anyone translate it into English
It's about a flying mailman who sees the world beneath all little, where he picks his fiancée like a rose and takes her with him to "his paradise". I'm no expert but I would rather link it to surrealism than to fascism. Trenet is more the fool/jester type who escapes reality for personal happiness, rather than a enthusiast of collective progress and superiority (like facists) or a political satirist.
Merci beaucoup!

And the melodies are still so different (i.m.h.o.) that any resemblance could be just due to the aesthetics of the time.
