  • Great job!!

  • @pmalo379 ...cheers!

  • They DO play it live the same as the studio. BUT the studio version is "slowed down" on the soft acoustic bit. How do we know this?....Because on record, you can actually HEAR the engineer speeding the tape back up again to the key of D!...Check it out. :-)

  • @PXR05 ....I certainly will!

  • simply cool music..............

  • Looks like you did it again, captured some of that intangible magic of music. I hope one day you can post a video of you and Alex Jamming...

  • @mine32222 ....thanks v much for the kind words. Funny , I jam with Lexrst quite often.....in my dreams!

  • @taringaplus ....guitarras son la vida!!

  • Very nice, one of my favorite Rush tunes too, and brings back some wonderful memories as a young teen when this song just came out, thx !

  • @ferks60 Really glad you enjoyed it......All the Worlds a Stage brings back lots of happy memories of being a teenager for me as well!! Can remember thinking how cool AL looked on the inner sleeve!!

  • wow wanna join a rush tribute we live in the middle of England

  • @tonykz1100 ...hey thanks! Don't think I would be much use, only ever played for my own amusement!

  • Excellent! My favourite Rush tune!!! You really do it justice! :)

  • @Wiitabax ...thanks for that, its a real stand out song played live.

  • @seveertrebor Not a prob! I'm getting to see Rush play live here in the U.K. in May - can't wait - I've always wanted to see 'em and wasn't able to until now - pluse they're doing ALL of "Moving Pictures" too!!! Any chance of you coming over to England and doing YYZ with them? :D Seriously though - you're a great guitarist - I do a bit myself... The Trees... Closer To The Heart... some of "Fountain Of Lamneth", plus some bass stuff like Cygnus X1. All the best to you! Keep on strumming! :)

  • @Wiitabax ...I actually live in England, so hoping to catch them myself, although I hope the sound quality has improved, saw them at Brum on the S&A tour and it was bloody terrible! Anyhow...hope you enjoy, they always put on a great show.

  • @seveertrebor Cheers muchly! Will be watching them at the Manchester M.E.N. - can't wait!!! Hope Neil does his extended drum solo during YYZ! :)

  • Seveertrebor, I agree that the live version has a better sound than the studio version, and usually I prefer Rush's studio versions.

  • @wavemanmav ...yep, one my all time faves!

  • Gorgeous, I could practically swim in that reverb and phaser :)

  • @Criddington ..cheers! Yeah, pleased with tone on this one...which is rare when trying to get a Lifeson tone.

  • @seveertrebor Agreed - this sounds about as close as you can get, I used to do this in my first band, I remember buying a phaser just to make it authentic! haha

  • my fave Rush song from way back, i was at the london gardens & saw them do this on the "all the worlds a stage tour", i hear 2112 starting to boil in this song, could actually work on 2112!, great picking and strumming, outstanding. rock on...

  • @MIRRORIMAGEWORLD ....really appreciate the feedback. Bet that was a brilliant tour. My first was Moving Pictures....it will always stay with me.

  • Yeah, I dunno why they played it different live, but it's in D in the live version. Odd really, cus Rush (and Lifeson in particular) prided themselves on playing live exactly the way it was on the album.

  • Your right for the studio version....but on the live version I think he plays it key of D??

  • OMG! is that a Les Paul with a Floyd on the wall to the right? if so....I WANT IT!!!

  • ...no, its a copy, but a nice copy!

  • Thanks for posting this. After 30 years, I still always go back to ATWAS, and In the End is just such a great song. I had played along with it for years, but watching you I was able to fill in a lot of the pieces I had never done correctly (as I have done by watching many of your videos). As always, great job!

  • Aaaaah.......a man after my own heart......I still think ATWAS is their best live album, so much energy.....and AL's playing on By Tor is just incredible.

  • That is beautiful man, well done to a great great song. Thankyou for the reminisce, superb.

  • Thanks....All the Worlds always takes me back.......

  • This is seriously awesome. its greats to see someone covering these songs so well.

  • thanks....appreciate the feedback

  • exelent!

  • What type of effects are you using on the intro? I've got a acoustic pedal but It just isn't doing the trick for me. Great job, bro.

  • Just clean channel, bit of delay/chorus.

  • Worth a shot, thanks. Always a bit of trail and error with me.

  • Ok, so to really date myself, I had ATWAS on 8 track! And I think it changes track on this song. :-)

Man, does this bring back cruising and getting high.

  • yeah, its a real throwback this song

  • ATWAS was my first Rush tour! And maybe still my favorite. I love all Rush, but the vintage stuff .......WOW!

  • ATWAS is a brillaint recording, they were on fire!

  • ATWAS? what is that

i like rush, fave band, but ive never heard that

  • ATWAS...All The Worlds A Stage, their first live album.

  • As you said in your caption, it's brilliantly simple. Oftentimes, simplicity is the mark of genius.

Your guitar playing is gorgeous. What kind of setup did you use to get that spacey, synth-like sound? It's a great tone.

  • thanks for that!....tone, was chorus, fair bit of delay, touch of reverb and presence, toned down treble....i think!?

  • nice, i used to have 'all the worlds a stage' down on bass

  • cheers..thats pretty good going.

  • Great job! you should do roll the bones,

  • Beautifully done - nice axe man ;)

  • ...cheers for that!

  • Thanks for posting the clip

    Enjoyed that : )

    cheers

  • you rock on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Worth waiting for it Rob,

    thanks for the post TS

  • cheers...glad you enjoyed it, i forgot what a great version this was.

  • good song good cover nice guitar everyting is awsome as usual!

  • cheers!

  • As usual very nice work!

  • Nice job bro! I love your Rush Covers!

  • cheers, really glad you enjoy them!

  • excellent work mate.

    Proud of you.

  • cheers pal!

  • This has always been one of my favorite Rush songs, something I wanted to hear live during their 2007-2008 snakes and arrows run, but I did get to hear mission! Geddy seems to steer away from the really early work, I also wanted them to continue 2112, they stopped after Temples. I really wanted to hear Discovery live, that guitar part is awsome!

  • ...yeah, i agree that Geddy seems to run the show!

  • Wow! Beautiful intro! I havent played this in years...funny enough, I was at my cousins house and he has the first release of the Fly by Night LP in mint condition with Pearts original handwritten lyrics on the inside sleeve! Fly by Night was my first Rush LP I ever bought so hearing this was a joy! thanks!

  • ..thanks for that, yeah i lost all my rush LPs in a flood a few years back, including FBN!

  • How many hours do these covers take you to get down. You do a really good job everytime and this one is extraordinary. Keep it up and I hope you come out with a lesson someday.

  • Thanks for the kind words...not too long, i usually just mess about while watching a film or something until it comes together, but its the solo that takes a bit of work and also getting it down in one take without any major errors is the hard part!

  • seveertrebor.

I too care too remember that I have been Rush Fan for my entire life, and this song and your interpretation of it really accentuates the neurons and is extremely emotive. I have replied with some fun extroidinary comedic playing from Al and his ranting during La Villa.

The epi -les paul tonality does this gem justice. Not many people can play Lerxst with such finesse and sublime "Subtlety" in annotate arpeggio's ~ Exquisite - Thx

  • hey..i really appreciate your in depth comments.

  • Yeah, Very clean, very great, I love all your covers. You're the best I've seen on Youtube! x] cheers!

  • ...thanks for that mate!

  • What kind of guitar effect? Some sort of reverb?

  • ..its played through a Switchblade, reverd/delay/prescence.

  • Very beautiful

  • Nice cover...this is a song I have not listened to very much. BTW...are you playing to the album or to MIDI? I think album..hear Geddy in the backgroud! ;-)

  • thanks, its the album in the background

  • u nailed this song! what effect are you using? i love this song and wanna learn it!

  • cheers man...mainly reverb and chorus for the quiet parts

  • Great cover, as usual. This is such a great song, and your tone is just amazing in this video.

  • thanks for that

  • nicely done I love these kind of rush songs

  • yeah, they played this with so much emotion.

  • I love playing this one too! You are great man!!

  • One of their best songs, great job!

  • just a lovely rendition - especially the little bit at the end. Haven't listened to ATWAS for a good long while, but it's just made me want to!

  • the outro is just superb....well it was you covering all those old rush songs that got me back into their early stuff.....i used to play ATWAS continually in the 6th form many years ago, pissing off the rest of the class!!

  • haha - did something similar with Exit ... Stage Left!! Glad I've got you back into the early stuff as you've got me into their 90's stuff :D

  • This song is a perfect Closing song for Fly By Night!

One of my favorites of all time and you nailed it. Great Job!

  • ...yeah, i nearly wore out my FBN vinyl when i was in my teens!!

  • cool

  • You just keep getting better and better. Nice tone, clean fingerwork!

  • cheers
