What a machine, this car just looks so pure. And that's why, without all those electronics of recent F1, the best drivers could stand out from the others.
This came off of "Lap Of The Gods"... All the footage with that intro graphic was shot by Goodyear as a promo piece. Nothing at all like real racing conditions but still incredible.
I loved the turbo cars. Would love to see someone on a really quick lap though. Preferably Brands Hatch. Will never forget seeing De Angelis through Hawthorns, he was amazing.
Shame the laps are very slow, very low boost, the turbo from this year was very unreliable so the laps are not good, the teams wished to save the engine and boost for race!
i love these old onboard videos...but it always seems like theyre holding back and not pushing, is this the case or are they massively limited?

its crazy how far to the front of the car the driving position used to be.
You really wanted to avoid collisions in those days.

Does anyone know what video or series this is taken from? I often see these great onboard laps with this style of intro graphic.

Actually, all onboard footage of that era is the work of Alain Boisnard, from 1976 right up to 1985, when minaturisation came along.
