  • What a beautifll song

  • just heard this on the radio my o myyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy great song

  • I love the lyrics. It reminds me of the relationship between my exboyfriend and myself at the moment. It has been 2 years and he still loves me, although I broke up with him because I was always at his beck and call.

  • @Snowee

Why do you people have to psychoanalyze every damn song posted on here? It isn't about you. Was not written about you. Was not written about your relationships. It's extremely odd how immature people truly are on youtube.

  • Comment removed

  • @LennytheLizzard Why don't you just shut up. I find it really immature how you're psychoanalyzing everyone's comments around here. Why don't you just go and get a life and fuck off.

  • @Snowee In other words.............."I have no life, so I have to go on Youtube and tell the world of my dreams when I was a child."........How adult.

  • This song always reminds me of my Ex.....loved it..the lyrics are spectacular...to this day..her and I are best friends..! !

  • where did you get this song?? i can't find it anywhere...no remakes..nothing and it's classic!

  • @druroma This band was from Vancouver Canada. They had 2 albums out I believe. This is from the 2nd album. And there was a remake by John Parr. No where near as good though.

  • About a year ago, I heard this song ago and felt it was the right time to let go of MW. Though things continued between us, I've come back again to listen to this song to help me let go............It is so hard emotionally.......

  • I used to love this tune, back in the day. I looked for it in the record stores after it stopped playing on the radio but I never knew who it was by. I thought it might be Air Supply or REO Speedwagon. A one hit wonder, I guess.

  • This song reminds me of being head over heels for the man that saved my life- and having to let him go .

    I love these lyrics

  • I bought this album back in 1981, It's one of Canada's finest....

  • But I don't want to tie you down,

we both need room to grow,

but it's so easy having you around

and the hardest part of love

    is letting go...

  • It's easy to depend on someone

To be part of your life

And all the time you spend with someone

Could make you hold too tight

  • I have a very good mp3 copy of this song available.

It's not "CD" quality....but you'd have to try hard to hear the vinyl scratces in the background. It's the best one I have heard to date. Unless someone has an actual CD version (dont think it has ever been licensed for a CD at all)

  • I also have the MP3, it's good quality too.

  • David Sinclair... best guitarist in Canada still. Phenomenal player, even nicer guy.

  • I have this 45....I bought 2 copies of the single when it first came out many years ago. (still have both copies in my record collection).- It was on the Epic label.

"Letting Go" got quite a bit of airplay here in the Detroit area, but the song (unjustly) never made it chart-wise.

    EXCELLENT song, nonetheless...

  • Album is " Run For Cover " and It still sounds great , this song is a masterpiece

  • I just totally played air-piano on my computer desk! Man, what a heartbreaker.

    Thanks for posting.

  • To vrg1515. Unfortunately the song you asked for is not on the album I have.

  • Hey whichdolphin its love. not like ???? anyways great song and a classic

  • I heard this song many years ago as a teenager but now at 41 years of age, I finally truly feel the meaning of the song and how to "let go". It's painful but there comes a time when nothing else can be done but to let go. I wish you all the best in your life MW and hope that you will treasure all the sweet times we have had. It will be a long and painful road ahead for me to have to wipe all those sweet memories of us........

  • Its Love whichdolphin

  • Does anyone have a copy of this song?

  • I hate to say it, but I still have the ALBUM. One of the best crying songs I know.

  • Hey Doug - Does that album have the song 'The Things You Didn't Do' on it? And if so, how could you please get me an mp3 copy?

  • no , I have this record and it is not on this

  • They say that if YOU like somebody

    YOU gotta set them free

And if YOU really like somebody

    YOU gotta let them be

But it's so easy havin' YOU around

And the hardest part of friendship is letting go

  • this is the most perfect song for what im feeling right now..

  • a lost classic

  • Thankyou dooodoward much love & warmth may your soul & spirit always fly so free & peacefull I am never far my friend :) xoxox

  • Straight Lines had a great song titled "Roanne" which is incredibly hard to find online. I agree, they should have been a huge band in their time.

  • GREAT lost 45!...I bought two copies of this single on the Epic label when it first came out in 1982 after hearing it on CKLW Windsor/Detroit. That radio station played the record quite alot when it came out.

I'm glad that I bought the single when it came out, because I've never seen any more copies of this record turn up in in over 25 years...I've still got both of my copies.

  • @newcolonyfreak1 ,I remember hearing this song on CKLW AM 800,I live north of Detroit about 100 miles, and could get that station in real clear, wish they were still on the air, still love this song,

  • Great song! This band should have been huge. I saw them in '81 or '82 opening up for Prism.

  • Was that at The Danforth Music Hall in Toronto, that is where I had seen them, a great show and venue to see them.

  • I saw them in Lethbridge Alberta at the Sportsplex arena. All the big bands of the day came through and played there.... Prism, Loverboy, Triumph, Brian Adams, Red Rider, Trooper, April Wine!

  • This song was released in 1980 on an album called "Run For Cover" and was #5 on the Canadian chart and is hard to find.

  • Great tune!

  • Okay, this is what some of us is looking for:

"1981 There Are No Secrets/Te Laisser Faire (Epic/CBS) E4-4298" from Straight Lines. "Te Laisser Faire" is the French version of "Letting Go". If you have a copy of this, please please share!!!

  • Ok, let me rephrase that...I've been looking for the French version of this song. Anybody, please share details so I can find it!!! Thanks!

  • This was an awesome friggin song. I really liked their other song "It's Gotta Be Tonight" but beyond that they had no other hits.

This song was also redone by Michael Damien of Y&R and by Julie Masse.

  • really great

  • wow.. love it!

    thanks for uploading : )

  • I remember listening to this song back in Grade 7,8 at our snaowball dance, hahaha!

    classic.

  • I listen to it over & over, why?

  • Because it's a great focking song

  • The song is amazing.

  • Anyone know where I can find the French version, Laissez Faire, online?

  • I was goinng to ask the same question, I've been looking for the title (thank you) and the song for a long time. Who sang the French version? Was it them?

  • Yes, I'm 99% sure Straight Lines did the French version as well because the backing music is identical and I'm pretty sure the voice is as well. We sang this song in French class in high school so it conjures fun memories for me. Haven't heard it since. I'd love to find it though.

  • Thanks, it is probably on a B side then or something...keep me posted if you find anything. I heard it the last time in French like 20 years ago. I have the English version on LP though!!!

  • Geemon06, I can never thank you enough for posting this beautiful song. I have been searching for it for a long time. Apparently, not too many people know about this song. The lyrics of this song meant a lot to me. At the time this song was popular in Canada, I had to let go of someone. I was going through a painful time and I found solace in this song.

    Thank you again!

  • Great song!!!!!! Brings back memories

  • So true the hardest part of love IS letting go!!!

  • Love it thanks for adding it !!!!!!

  • I'm impressed that this song is even on here. Straight Lines - Canadian (I'm so proud). This song was actually fairly big here, but I think that was about it. If I'm not mistaken it was around '79 or '80, which means that a LOT of bands copied this sort of thing a few years later. Straight Lines did it first!

  • What a great song! It's impossible to find on CD. Thanks for uploading it!
