A buddy of mine begged me, so I let him have a junked Panzer Mopar rearend and he "tubbed" a Duster to take it and humongous tires! They dang -near rubbed on the driveshaft! Panzer axle still suviving 340 v8 4speed burnouts! Axle ratio was about 4 -1... 3.90, 4.11 or thereabouts.
It's been at least 20-years since I had it, but now I'm curious: Were the drive-axles actually just cut-down automotive rear-ends, or were appearances deceiving, so to speak? And I seem to recall mine had functional brake drums(manual linkage)on each side, and I believe four bolts on the driven(big)sprocket, that would appear to match the yokes on a U-joint cross?
Were they ALL that way? Or, did I have a "hybrid"? LOL!!!
@805ROADKING : By gawd, I'll bet your right! It sure wasn't a 9-inch Ford, nor any GM---no inspection-plate.
Man, I wish had just "junked" it in my salvage yard, instead of trading it off! I've still got pics of it, I just might put 'em up sometime, now that you've stirred my interest!
I even had a "stick-steered" Gibson at one time. I didn't know what I had, 'til it was too late---I'd done traded it for a burned-out Cub Cadet, and $50.00 of grocery-money...!!!
@805ROADKING@bruno640 The first Speedex AKA: Pond Tractors started with Ford Model A and T parts until Henry Ford decided to build his own tractor (that's also another story involving Harry Ferguson). At that point Ford no longer provided the parts and the brothers couldn't agree on a design so the one stayed with Speedex (Harold) and the other (Elmer) started his own company, Wheel Horse.
just to clear things up cause i am the owner of them garden tractors. the small trike tractor is not a bantam. its a 1953 hiller yard hand made in califorina.
hey wait a minute there was a John Deere GT242 in there, that's not an antique I still run one of those. best damn tractor i ever had. even out done other john deere's
@805ROADKING not arguing that point at all... this one was actually given to me and all it needed at the time was a battery and the carb cleaned out.. dude thought it was just dead and wouldn't start put the new batttery in it cleaned the carb and it hasn't let me down since. battery in it now has lasted 4 years and not had a problem
kinda shocked too that the Kawasaki motor that's on it has lasted this long also

I once had a Pennsylvania-Panzer just like this one---talk about simple, but solid!
The FORWARD-drives---I think there were two?---no problem. But that rubber-"donut" reverse was not for the weak-of-heart, to say the least...!
