my private lessons teacher had the privledge of a private concert in his jazz class, he told me his tone qaulity was the purest most beuitiful sound he had ever heard. and ever would hear. I can hear he was right.
wow he is exceptionally high up in the ranks of the greats, his mind is everywhere. he knows music inside out. very technically proficient and melodically too, lyrical and rhythmic, very blessed. golden tone and ear.
There is always a lesson when he plays.I get the technical part of him, the soulful part of him, the jazz part of him and so many other aspects of music through Michaels playing! Wow, he will truly be missed, but he left so much for us to enjoy and study.
What a pure talent MB was! I had the honour of talking to him and it is amazing how humble, almost shy he was, unlike a lot of top players who are unbelievably up their own asses
he is amazing, but he is missing something that coltranes music delivered. hes got alot of the same type of stuff, but to me it sounds like coltrane meant it more
I'm not sure I agree with you, I think Michael Brecker "meant it" every bit as much as Coltrane. It's true that Brecker's music doesn't have the overt spiritual dimension that later Coltrane did, but I think Brecker's level of mastery is very deep and extends way beyond simple technique.
Dolphy?? Really? I think that Dolphy did things to help jazz, but he should not be mentioned in the same breath players like Rollins, Coltrane, Stitt, Parker, Mobley, etc.
thats just how he plays man, its a straight fat sound. you can hear the Joe Henderson and Coltrane influence, but with a little fuller overall sounds. well thats just how i would say it at least.
Beautiful

He seemed to love Coltrane as much as we do. But he had found his own language instead of just copying Trane.
That's Michael Brecker talking...
