I listened to this on Cheechvovo's video...awesome by the way!. Have not heard in years....turned around and bought the CD.... WHY I cannot get this song out of my head now 24/7 ??? @1CountryIndivisible Spot on good sir.!!!! I remember Saturday mornings in NYC listening to this and then walking around central park with my Dad. I was about ten.
He had NO idea at all of how his talent would benefit the world..... He deserved so much more in life....sad. Many, many people today with less than half his talent are making 20X more money and fame. He sold himself short, like many in those years....Leon Russell, another one.
every time i hear this song i feel bubley inside because i get memories from the bes abc show that they ever canceled "life on mars"
i really want that show back and i dont want the british to give me shit about "oooo the uk one was better blah blah blah" i don't care if you think the us one sucks, i think its awesome and i also like the uk one , the consept is still the same just newer
@AerialRcoet they canceled the us one after the first season so 2008-2009 and i think the british one was something like 2003-2006 only three seasons, its such a cool concept but they keep ending the show before other people catch on
Replace spaceman with your dream job and this seems quite relative. You work hard to become what you want to be then realize it's not what you expected.
You win...You lose...ah life. At least the space man had a fun time in space.
I will never understand WHY they cancelled the American version of the show .. we watched both and we have the American version taped on our cable box .. Did not know it was out on DVD already..such a quality show and they canceled if for crap that did not make a month ...

Nilsson, you are the man, not just the space man, but THE man. Everything you did was pretty damned awesome. It was a privilege being young, loving life and listening to your songs.
@MoosicandCritters Sorry, TJ, strikeout for me on this one. It' got a resemblance to Cat's in the Cradle though. I think I was busy listening to Mom's music when this came out, but there's some of Harry's music that I really DO enjoy. chuck

If you made a CD of the fifteen best Nilsson tracks and a CD of the fifteen best Beatles songs... well I bet the Beatles would come out ahead, but only just. Nilsson was an extremely talented song writer.
Nilsson wrote and sang a lot of great song for his short life. This being another favorite next to BREAKING MY HEART and for the the dislikes That's your opinion now go back to the Justin Bieber channel and leave us alone
Tomeeeee1 : There is a BIG difference between bad music and bad musicianship. A person/group can be great writers/singers/performers but not sound pleasant. (Nirvana) Alternatively, a peron can sound catchy but have no depth (early Brittany Spears). My point is- Nilsson inspires me. If the Clash inspires you, awsome! The merit of a musican should be based on quality, not taste :)
@tomeeeee1 Both Nilsson and Newman were inspired by Ray Charles, not each other. Each era has its greats and if you put Nilsson and KC and the Sunshine Band in the same trash bin, you have no ability to hear music. That the Clash were great does not make other styles less great. Harry was and amazing writer and performer.
@tomeeeee1 I love the pistols and love nilsson...some people have a brain that can allow all types of music into their life. One type of music people are boring douchebags. Harry Nilsson wrote songs recorded by so many people...likely songs you like as well.
@tomeeeee1 Wow, do you just go on Nilsson videos and leave bad comments? Seriously? Well I guess when this is one of your (most likely MANY) troll accounts, it doesn't really matter. You said in another one of his videos that you write stuff like this all the time, and it's easy. Okay I want to hear it, let's see you out do Nilsson.
@tomeeeee1 hey guess what, rancid sux and the clash sucked too, london's calling and they're calling you gay! -AxCx
this is easy to write? this is much more complex than the god awful clash songs that are simple. heres what the clash is this, "lets copy the ramones. then we will copy black reggae artists. lets sing poorly and out of key, and lets not be tight, and lets have the most poorly recorded and produced albums imaginable. total english fashion punk copying america and failing.
@tomeeeee1 the clash.......... hahahahahahahha.the clash....................... god i wanna punch myself in the face and throw up on the graves of the clash members so they could at least expierence something punk in their life. god i fucking hate the clash so much, i mean few songs are ok. "bank robber" being their best song by far. but they just suck, they were/are popular cause it was and always will be trendy to like em. england has one good punk band, the sex pistols, that was it.
@tomeeeee1 Wait. I could be wrong, but I'm not, I love the sex pistols, but the only difference between Harry NIlsson and Johnny Rotten is attitude and a bit more crust about the ears love. To I'm not looking to start a youtube comment battle er anything, it's just you can't honestly say there's more musical complexity to god save the queen than there is this number. And what's wrong with Randy Newman? You're entitled to hate, but sometimes, life goes better with cheese.
Harry was the 5th Beatle, he was friends with all of them and if you look at Ringo's post on his website, he said the worst thing that he most missed is that Harry died before they could grow old together. Harry and John Lennon were best friends and it was Harry that got him to sing in New York at the park as well as Elton John.
Back when times made you think the human race was improving itself. Those times will come back, and the human race will make something of itself to be proud of!!! Great inspiring song with a humorous twist! Thanks for putting the video on!
very nice. love the song harry nilson one of my favorate artist. soothing pics, i made picture video, with one of my own song only you. if you get a chance check it out
A fave of mine. Should have been in the Astronaut Farmer soundtrack instead of the Elton John song IMHO. This song seemed to get a lot of air play in the late 1960's. Now the oldies stations never touch it.
Agreed, it is appropriate for the 40th anniversary. I remember sitting in school watching it in class...the tension and excitement was intense. GOD I'm ooooold!
If you liked Life on Mars, check out Ashes to Ashes. Its takes off where Life on Mars left off where female DI Alex Drake is investigating DCI Sam Tyler's death. She gets shot and is sent back in time and joins the gang from Life on Mars. It should be airing in the states if not maybe you can catch it on BBC iPlayer
You are so right on! Have you heard ABC is going to cancel the show? Three more eps left! Please write to ABC to stop this! Please tell everyone to watch it. Ratings are low, but we can try our best to keep it on! Never heard this song till I watched Life On Mars! That show is the best!
I havent heard this song in Many years till I heard it on the radio yesterday.....great song!!! Brings back memories.... and you have Robert Goddard on here who did his rocket stuff right down the road from me...smart guy he was. Thanks for the song !!!

It's no wonder the Beatles held Nilsson in such high regard. This guy was a great singer and even better songwriter. "Spaceman" is one of the most underrated songs I've ever heard.

This is a great little lost gem. This song is right up there with David Bowies Major Tom and the Moody Blues Higher And Higher. Peace.

I got this album in 1975 and loved it ever since...Harry is the man!

It's no wonder the Beatles held Nilsson in such high regard. This guy was a great singer and even better songwriter. "Spaceman" is one of the most underrated songs I've ever heard.

John Lennon and Nilsson were the very best of friends. John hung with Harry during his separation from Yoko in the early 70s in Los Angeles
