  • What Bradley Cooper ordered as he machine-guned his words out is some kind of noodles (炸酱面), two pieces of chinese pizza, some kind of shrimp and the last part, i don't understand why he emphasize not to give him napkin because it will dirty his hands? anyway what he says is little bit too fast for native chinese to understand without subtitles.

  • The last black dude, the second last blonde chick is quiet good. And respect for Keanu Reeve's attempt.

  • HA 哈哈

  • Is it just me or the African American actors are better at speaking Chinese than their caucasian counterparts? (eg. Lawrence Fishburne and Michael Jai White)

  • 前一、二名說的很標準阿~ XDDD

  • Why the chink want O'leary "on the telephone machine"?

  • I'm only sad they didn't put in any scenes from the ear torture that is Joss Whedon's Firefly. Don't get me wrong, I like Firefly, but the Chinese bits sound like they were written by a half-deaf banana.

  • Michael Jai White is the man...!

  • Vanessa Branch didn't speak mandarin - it was dub over - you can see the lip action don't quite line up.

  • are they speaking mandarin?

  • Vanessa Branch and Keanu did pretty well

  • Wow, I'm native Chinese and really, I wouldn't be able to tell Michael Jai White was black just from the audio. That's seriously mastering the subtleties of the language right there LOL. Bradley Cooper seriously deserves to be slapped upside down for turning in that performance come on.

  • @saintbubblegum you do know what we were talking about right? rigarigariga was saying that Vanessa Branch pronounces chinese better then most native chinese , do you agree?

  • anyway i think this has escalated enough i will not be replying anymore so please do not reply to my comments. thank you all

lets hope this video comment section will remain civil

  • @saintbubblegum there is accents ! studying a language and being in a chinese speaking society is very different. people like me can tell where they are from based on their accents .people in singapore sound very different from people in shanghai and they also sound very different from taiwan.

  • the translation for the scene in Black Dynamite isn't entirely accurate but i like the aggression

  • no prize for picking up the real 'ching chong' speaker...

  • What's up with the clip for RED? The subtitles are 100% different to what he's saying. He says (or tries to say) "I lived in China some years ago." And the subtitles say: "The police have already turned them over to the immigration bureau... because they don't have American citizenship."

Actually the whole thing is different even from the English dialogue!

  • @an00b1z According to the real subtitles Bruce says “几年前我住在武汉”。 The bad titles are from the 盗版 DVD - If I knew people would actually watch this video I would have used a real version :)

  • @maxiao88 Thanks, I really had trouble with Brucee's pronunciation. BTW, my favorite 盜版s are the ones where they take English dialogue, "translate" it into Chinese, and then "translate" it back into English... like Star Wars Episode III.

  • I thought Vanessa Branch spoke very well, Keanu Reeves and Lawrence Fishburne make good attempts.

  • Chris, Lawrence, Keanu... they did pretty well & their lines were comprehensible enough... although it's VERY obvious to any Mandarin speaker that they labored through them, & might've rehearsed for like 100 times before going in front of the camera...

The remaining 5. 2 words, they SUCK. their lines're totally incomprehensible... & especially funny when Steven was talking to the storekeeper in Mandarin while the old man is replying in Cantonese...

  • I've been speaking Chinese (yes, mandarin & 2 more dialects) my whole life, so i think i'll be valid enough to tell the good ones from the ones who suck. if i'm not mistaken, Vanessa Branch's the only one who could actually speak mandarin here, so no problem with her. Michael Jai White, i dunno if if someone dub his lines for him or he said them himself, but if he did it himself, i'm impressed (non-sarcastic).

  • @perverted77 Vanessa Branch has great pronunciation, but her tones could use some work. I'm pretty sure Michael Jai White did his own lines because as good as it is, he doesn't actually sound like a native Chinese speaker. At any rate, they're both pretty impressive!

  • Nothing from Firefly?

  • According to Wikipedia, the blond woman near the end is actually fluent in Mandarin, so those lovely tones coming out of her mouth were likely her own. In such a case, she is lightyears ahead of Keanu, and even has better pronunciation than most native Chinese!

  • @ringa0ringa0ringa she has better pronunciation than most native chinese ? not a chance in this lifetime . better then some ,rare. most never.

  • @65634990 Nope, it's true in a sense, and it's not as uncommon as you might think for foreigners learning Chinese well. Why? Foreigners learn Chinese from CDs and teachers with perfect standard accents, whereas many Chinese learn Mandarin from local teachers, family and friends with accents influenced by the local dialect. For example, many Chinese in Zhejiang province pronounce the "ch" sound (as in 吃) more like "tz" sound, and the "sh" identical to "s" (they would pronounce 是 and 四 the same).

  • @ringa0ringa0ringa So by "better," I really mean "more standard." The Chinese respect the ability to speak with the standard accent. One Chinese friend of mine would occasionally take an oral test that judged her standard accent skills, and she was proud to say her accent was almost as good as CCTV news reporters. :)

  • that is not about standard pronunciation but accents , according your logic most americans and english people speak the worst english . ps i am Chinese and speak it on a daily basis

  • @ringa0ringa0ringa can you imagine in those 2 short phrases she mispronounced in tone wise, half of it

  • @65634990 Well, since you are a native Chinese speaker, I'll put my faith in you. Sorry if I caused you frustration by my disagreement earlier.

  • i agree fallwind. way to go Keanu. the only one to make an honest attempt at inflections.

  • Kudos to Keanu Reeves. Only he spoke almost understandable Chinese. All others were not really speaking Chinese except the "hello" and "thanks". LOL

Moreover I think the last 2 clips got voice over.

  • This is amazing.

  • 8.你是山西芭樂啦!

  • 10- Red -- Bruce Willis

    09- Limitless --Bradley Cooper

    08 - Rush Hour (1or2?) -- Chris Tucker

07 - Old Dr Who -- Tom Baker

    06 - CSI -- Lawrence Fishburne

05 - Funny People -- Eric Bana and kids

04 - The Day The Earth Stood Still -- Keanu Reeves

03 - The Glimmer Man -- Steven Seagal

    02 - Entourage -- Vanessa Branch

01 - Black Dynamite -- Michael Jai White
