Ah real racers use racing built automatics, especially when you race for money. Only a rice burner in a civic will think otherwise. The only reason manual WAS considered the racing standard is because of the extra gear and more control, well almost all modern cars are at least 5 speed automatics(The GTI is a 6 speed DSG) and will not miss a gear or shift to soon/late and if you want total control you just switch into MANUAL control, welcome to 2009.
The driving enthusiast will like always having full control of the car, but theres no way to dispute that a DSG is faster and that full spec race cars go a similar route too, albeit much stronger..
Again, its just a matter of how much driver involvement you prefer..

Both are awesome cars, but if u have a choice, u might wanna go toward the r32.Its got 4wd nd dsg, but its only flaw is no turbo. BUt, thats no prob because HPA came out with a sick twin turbo kit for it. I got the gti cause u can get easy nd cheap upgrades that make fair gains. chip, intake, dv, and exhausts is all u need, nd ur good for an extra 80hp nd over 100ft/lbs of torque. :)

Well with stick off the line, you get that advantage of a launch. and unless you're neutral bombin your tranny (which i hope you dont) your car is just starting to spool when he reaches max psi.
Thats not necessarily true. If you launch high, you'll get a shit load of torqe steer, cause the gti is fwd. The best place to launch is 2400 rpm, cause all the torque comes at 1800 rpm. Its all about the shifts :) . No power loss in between shifts cause DSG shifts in 2/10 of a sec

ya manual takes more skill some of the time and u have more control, but i have an '08 GTI with the paddle shifting and that absoulutely rapes manual transmission cars, when its double clutched and shifts in .4 seconds..
No matter how much skill you have, you can't "kick off" like the launch control does if you have the DSG tranny. If you down have launch control flased ur ecu, u cant rev past 1200 rpm.
Still, unless you're Micheal Schumacher, I highly doubt you can shift as fast as the DSG, which does it in about 8ms. Even faster than stick cars, which is why DSGs the best.
I dont want to get into a debate about what's manual, but the clutch(es) in the DSG tranny cannot take as much torque as the standard (STICK SHIFT) 6spd transmission.
you shuld be able to get the ground effects but if i were you i would stick to another color then thr f. orange cause those are pricer and use that money on some mods

ninjaRose84 if you have the dsg make sure you turn off the traction control and put it in sports mode then use the brake and gas until you have it up to 2.5k rpm then let go of the brake and it shud work
Okay, I tried this. It works a treat. But, it never gets to 2.5K rpm like you say. It does about 1.5K rpm and hangs there until the break is released.
this could mean 1 of a couple things. Make sure your esp is off( that means that when u press the esp button, pic of the car on your dash should be illuminated in yellow), and also make sure that u are in either tiptronic or Sport mode. If that doesn't work, then it means u dont have launch control. If you have an 05-07 Gti, you can go to the service center nd have them flash it to your system for free.

Yep, take off the ESP, shift into Tiptronic/Sport Mode (either or), hit the brake nd the gas. Hold it for a couple seconds, nd let off the brake.

Well with stick off the line, you get that advantage of a launch. and unless you're neutral bombin your tranny (which i hope you dont) your car is just starting to spool when he reaches max psi.

Thats not necessarily true. If you launch high, you'll get a shit load of torqe steer, cause the gti is fwd. The best place to launch is 2400 rpm, cause all the torque comes at 1800 rpm. Its all about the shifts :) . No power loss in between shifts cause DSG shifts in 2/10 of a sec

Hell yea tripleskate, manuel is the only way to go, there is nothing like a stick, check out my vid of my 08 Altima 3.5SE 6-SPD, oh and what the hell is a boost launch, is that a fancy way of saying, "I cant drive stick so I bought an Automatic and I put my foot on the brake and gave it gas then car went yayyyyyyyy". And yes I called it automatic, any tranny that has a mode were u dont have to do anything at all is an auto, dont care what u call it.

No matter how much skill you have, you can't "kick off" like the launch control does if you have the DSG tranny. If you down have launch control flased ur ecu, u cant rev past 1200 rpm.

Still, unless you're Micheal Schumacher, I highly doubt you can shift as fast as the DSG, which does it in about 8ms. Even faster than stick cars, which is why DSGs the best.

I dont want to get into a debate about what's manual, but the clutch(es) in the DSG tranny cannot take as much torque as the standard (STICK SHIFT) 6spd transmission.

ninjaRose84 if you have the dsg make sure you turn off the traction control and put it in sports mode then use the brake and gas until you have it up to 2.5k rpm then let go of the brake and it shud work

Okay, I tried this. It works a treat. But, it never gets to 2.5K rpm like you say. It does about 1.5K rpm and hangs there until the break is released.

this could mean 1 of a couple things. Make sure your esp is off( that means that when u press the esp button, pic of the car on your dash should be illuminated in yellow), and also make sure that u are in either tiptronic or Sport mode. If that doesn't work, then it means u dont have launch control. If you have an 05-07 Gti, you can go to the service center nd have them flash it to your system for free.
