It is refreshing to hear an intellectual Jew make comments on Israel that are not jaded by pro-Zionist sentiments.

Mr. Shlaim is obviously not a fan of Hamas & makes this point several times so he cannot be accused of hypocrisy.

He sees the bad aspects of Israel's treatment of the Palestinians in this 'war' & in the preceding years even into the 1960s.

This viewpoint would never be heard on any major media in USA since it does not give blanket amnesty to all of Israel's brutal actions.

To be honest with you the loudest intellectual voices of the Palestinian cause are Jews. People like Norman Finkelstein, Noam Chomsky, Avi Shlaim, Ilan Pappe and even Tom Segev have done much more of the Palestinian cause than all of the Arab leaders put together.
