  • huge respect to avi shlaim.

every1 can c that he is against hamas as well as violations against gazans.

i only with th@ ppl would stop saying that israel does this and israel does th@. it is the government of israel which is not always supported by the ppl. all governments make bad decisions sooner or l8er. but pls do go thinking israelis r evil or demonic. it is not true.

  • yes! he says it! he mentions how Israel supported hamas... i always said Israel is its own worst enemy....

  • this guy really knows his politics!

  • Guys like this are the future of international Jewry......so much to offer the world.....indeed, those Jews globally who haven't yet spoken out against the Israeli government's progressively fascist, revenge-based craziness, are no better than those Germans widely accused of not speaking up against the genocide of European minorities by the German / Austrian/ French / Latvian Third Reich Nazis...at least most 1940's German's could claim not to know what actually was going on...

  • Hamas would never have formed if the state of Israel used diplomacy rather than lies and violence, supported by the people of the USA and unfortunately now our Canadian government without the support of the majority of Canadians

  • Thank you Mr. Shlaim for your fair view on situation in Mid.East. My advice to Israely establishment, stop hunting for II World War killers and criminals, you have state full of baby killers and inocent civiliens. Shame on you. What World is doing about it ? I am not a muslim I am just a grandma with a heart and humanity. Give back the land you took from Palestiniens and move on.

  • being a Hindu i share the same sentiments...with kruno!!!

  • There were Germans who opposed the holocaust as well. This man is a hero. The Israeli military are no better than the fucking SS. Don't agree? You're in the minority. They box in civilians and kill them with unusual enthusiasm and zest.

  • This Academician, mild mannered though he is, could probably run the whole world geopolitically with his knowledge and familiarity with the intricacies of these issues, politics, wars, tactics and history. Maybe George Mitchell should give him a call?

  • It is refreshing to hear an intellectual Jew make comments on Israel that are not jaded by pro-Zionist sentiments.

Mr. Shlaim is obviously not a fan of Hamas & makes this point several times so he cannot be accused of hypocrisy.

He sees the bad aspects of Israel's treatment of the Palestinians in this 'war' & in the preceding years even into the 1960s.

This viewpoint would never be heard on any major media in USA since it does not give blanket amnesty to all of Israel's brutal actions.

  • To be honest with you the loudest intellectual voices of the Palestinian cause are Jews. People like Norman Finkelstein, Noam Chomsky, Avi Shlaim, Ilan Pappe and even Tom Segev have done much more of the Palestinian cause than all of the Arab leaders put together.

  • Sadly, you are right about the Arab leaders...

Though I am not a jew, I -as a human being- am still proud to see such honest and gutsy jews.

  • Remember that the Arab leaders are under constant threat from America. If they defend Gaza, theirs may be the next nation invaded.

  • cimsid is right!!!

  • This tells me all I need to know about Palestine. They voted in an admitted terrorists group. And PROUDLY did so.

  • @dwade1962eagle then you have selective haring.

israel supported Hamas and is the cause for allll its own problems (as usual!)

Israel is the true terrorist, they were founded by terrorism (irgun, haganah, levi, stern jewish terror groups) and with the creation of the Israeli gov't, the groups were amalgamated into the new gov't.

Tzipi livnis parents were both high ranked Irgun terrorists...and you dare call hamas terrorists? oh you fool you didnt hear a word he said

    BAHHHHH to you sheep

  • So did Illan Pappe, I would not want to live under a fascist regime either. Teaching at Oxford university is creditable enough.

  • If he were defending Israel's behaviour, I have no doubt you would not be troubled by where he lives.
