  • It's 2011 and there's more trash on the streets than drugs...and there's alot of drugs!

  • ):

  • The packaging people and the Waste Management Corp. perpetrated the myth of the litterbug. They turned the tables on us... They changed the laws to allow all this waste to exist at all ... so they can get rich on making it and disposing of it. Read Heather Rogers's The Hidden Life of Garbage. She documents the scam. This about it.

  • Beautiful commercial , should be aired more often .

  • Yeah, crying all the way back to his casino

  • *at lest my brother & sister Indians didn't destroy our land when we all had it just take a look at it now it looks bad roads every were white men tearing down our trees we want our land and all are money back now and we will fight for it if we have to

would all you like it if we did all this to you Think about it WHITEYS*

  • @lil27mike27big No, your brother and sister indians destroyed each other. So much so that you couldnt band together and defeat "whitey". Much like about the most you can do now is build a casino. Whitey was just another tribe that lived further away and had more force than you. The strong survive, the weak die. The tribes in the US did as much destruction to each other as "whitey" did. He just kicked ass on all of you. Skin color had nothing to do with it. Intelligence did

  • @RythmandStrings thats true and funny

  • @RythmandStrings no skin color did to have something to do with it

we are slowly making a come back

  • @lil27mike27big Snails move faster and do a better job. You remind me of an empty can.....they make the most noise

  • @RythmandStrings iz don't understand you

  • @lil27mike27big Which is why your "comeback" won't happen until the next ice age

  • @RythmandStrings yes we make a come back

  • @lil27mike27big Doubt it

  • @RythmandStrings why you say that for we are and always have been good people

  • @lil27mike27big American indians are no different than any other people group. They have done their fare share of murdering, raping, stealing and lying to each other, pushing a weaker tribe off of their land to expand. I have no pictures in my head of all tribes holding hands and passing a peace pipe. A bigger tribe moved in and did the same thing to the American indian that they themselves were guilty of doing to each other already. Good people? Compared to what?

  • @RythmandStrings we are different white people look at us like we are Mexicans or Arabs like the other day i was at speedway and this white guy was giving me the most hate full look what did i do i did nothing to that guy so why was he looking at me like i was a bad person this is why i hate white people i no god says not to hate anyone but its hard not to when others do this to me and my family

  • @RythmandStrings Something tells me you wish you were Native American.

  • @RebleWithoutACause You bet!

  • @RythmandStrings How many nuts must go into your mouth before you stop opening it?

  • @RebleWithoutACause) yes we like to eat nuts

  • @RebleWithoutACause) i am Native American that's why hill-billy's don't like me now because of dat

  • @lil27mike27big I rubbed the bottle and the cat came out. I made a wish but I got bit instead. I cried and cried until my peepee went weewee. Do you seesee?

  • @RebleWithoutACause) all i see is trash and still do

  • @lil27mike27big When was the last time you made it out to a reservation?

  • @RythmandStrings) i have not ben to one in long time

  • cjs33139 actually wants MONEY and he'll forgive the early settlers for what was done to certain people in America.

Believe that shit? MONEY will make it all go away . . .

  • People will ALWAYS have bad things to say about Americans. That will never change. Even though none of us did any of the things a lot of people accuse us of, we'll still be the bad guys on the planet.

Other countries have done horrendous things in their past but all anyone TODAY will bring up is what America is doing - or what our country has done. Never mind many other countries have done the same exact thing . . .

Right now people all around the world LOVE to hate America, regardless.

  • Ah man, I remember the first time I saw this.

  • People always seem to try and direct blame towards someone else. That's human nature I guess. It's funny how such a simple gesture of pollution can so easily turn into "whites did this", and "Asians did that". In the end this was about pollution, which ALL people are guilty of, period.

It has always disgusted me how people can throw garbage out into the street. I see it all the time and it makes me want to yank these sob's out of their cars and beat the shit out of them.

    But that's me.

  • @thebakerman1 Not all people, but people from various backgrounds. It is not only immature to think that one particular race is responsible for pollution, it is flat out stupid. I totally agree with you on every point.

  • @thebakerman1 and Im not trying to point blame... but you have to admit, if western expansion never had happened (and the brits didn't care about this land back in that time), there would still be tribes about, buffalo would not have gotten close to extinction... etc etc... I'm looking at it in more of a moral concept than anything. It was rude, inhumane and unjustified what the settlers did to Native Americans.

  • @eep2madness

Yes, your right. I don't think anyone can dispute that fact. It was more than rude though. There's a series on the History Channel running right now called "America: The Story Of Us". It tells the story of how America started back in the beginning when the first settlers came here from across the pond.

The bottom line is those of us here today had nothing to do with that. Our mothers and fathers had nothing to do with it, nor did their parents. But it did happen, which is bad.

  • @thebakerman1 i am sick and tired of whitey saying "oh well, I didnt do this to Natives and neither did my parents or their parents.." Who cares. What matters is that the majority of natives are still suffering and in poverty and it is the duty of ALL AMERICANS to help them get back on their feet and do what we can to pay them restitution.

  • @cjs33139

Ahhhhh, so we finally come to the REAL issue. People like you want MONEY. Well, that ain't NEVER GONNA HAPPEN.

Yeah, I'm white and damn proud of it too. We've ALL had shit done against us but people like YOU are the only ones who have your fucking hand out for it.

In a word, FUCK YOU. Go beg for money somewhere else asshole.

  • @thebakerman1 It IS going to happen and it is happening, dumbass. Canada has apologized to its native population for genocide and all the hurt they caused and Austrailia has done the same thing. Native populations WILL get restitution because even if you didn't do anything to get them where they are now, it IS your responsibility that they do, racist scum. Why don''t you just go back to Germany or wherever your skanky pale ass came from? You genocidal motherfucker.

  • @cjs33139 The best revenge is your skanky white asses are becoming a fast minority in this country. So your racist ass can just slither away back to Europe where you belong... there you can be in the company of all the Islamists who are taking over those countries with Sharia laws that you will be subject too, haha. Soon, this country will be ruled by lots of chocolate faces and the white man will be the minority, just like in South Africa, where they are now the persecuted. Justice served.

  • @cjs33139

You wanna pay somebody then you take it out of your own pocket asshole. The US Gov't will never take my money to give to Indians or Blacks because of something some asshole did a hundred fucking years ago. And if it ever did come to that, the US Gov't would have a coup on their hands, period. And they know this, which is why these so-called "payments" you speak so highly of will NEVER happen, but good luck anyway.

You and those like you can kiss my ass. But keep on dreaming ASSHOLE.

  • @cjs33139

The only thing happening is the US has already apologized for what happened back then. That's the ONLY thing that will happen. If you think for one second their gonna hand out more money than they ALREADY GIVE these people then your high on crack (which you probably are anyway).

The fact that you use the term "Whitey" already means your a racist pig. No one's calling you by your color but you are to others.

Your just a typical racist asshole with his hand out.

  • @thebakerman1 Shut up, whitey.

  • @Kirke182

Ain't gonna happen asshole. But let me guess: Your another one of those poor little minority lowlifes who's got his hand out for a freebee like all these other assholes.

Get a fucking job and take responsibility in life the way WE have.

  • @thebakerman1 Apparently, you can't read so let me repeat it:

    Shut up, whitey.

  • @Kirke182

I read just fine you fuck stick. But I don't take orders from you, asshole.

Go get your hand-outs from the government, boy.

  • @thebakerman1 I'lll do that but in the mean time, whitey, shut up.

  • @Kirke182

Well I already knew you have your grimy fucking hand out so there's no surprise there. As far as shutting up, ain't gonna happen. But why don't you come make me shut up asshole? Until then you'll have to keep with all the Internet commando talk.

    Stupid fucking asshole.

  • @thebakerman1 shut up whitey lol

  • @Killerlocust52 Okay blackey

  • @thebakerman1 Ah, Americans. How delightfully charming you are.

  • @hotelmario510 Yeah, I know. But that's what happens when people say things to you when you never said anything to them to start with - talking about the other guy here.

  • @thebakerman1 Name one thing done against white people in this country, fucker. I am not talking about religious persecutions, etc . I am talking about violence against white people from other white people because of the color of their skin. Never. And I am not talking about a cash amount, ignorant hick. Restitution can come in the form of tax payer dollars to help those communities flourish. But then again, most whiteys are greedy, individualists. Figures.

  • @cjs33139

I don't have to name SHIT asshole. And even if I did, people like YOU would whine and complain about it even more. So you get NOTING from me asshole. You hear that? NOTHING. No money. No further arguing. No NOTHING.

People like YOU are the RACIST people in the world who think white people have never had racism committed against them. People like YOU are the ones who others owe you money because 8 generations ago somebody made someone you know pick cotton for free.

    FUCK YOU.

  • @eep2madness Blame Christianity.

  • I thought of him one time when I saw some lady throw a Mcdonald's soda out the window of a moving bus...

  • iron eyes cody was an italian!

    not an indian

  • Culture has nothing to do with this message (though there is some reference) it's the point the Native Americans fought greedy European settlers and died trying to protect land which was rightfully theirs. Native Americans started allowing people to settle in the west and they accepted the change. NOW people are taking it for granted by polluting their, once beautiful land. They killed, pillaged, raped and stole NA land and now they're destroying the only thing they kept sacred in their hearts

  • You're right on with most of that, but since you seem to respect Native Americans so much, I just wanted to point out that they didn't believe in ownership of land. It's more like people spitting on your mother constantly, I think.

  • Yeah, I am one of Pottawatomie and Kiowa. And you're right. So with that in mind, They took advantage of Native American's hospitality.

  • @eep2madness -- The Native Americans were not a monolithic entity. And in no since were they uniformly 'noble'. There were many of them who would have used technology abusively as well, if they'd had it. But yes, there were a few tribes who were truly good and stood out humanely against a bloody backdrop of savagery on both sides of the Atlantic. In any case, there is no excuse for what the lot of them endured under the heel of European expansion.

  • The Natives of this land hunted several species to extinction, and often farmed land until it was devoid of nutrients and then moved on. They were human beings and guilty of the same drive to excess as us, despite what hippie liberals would have you believe.

  • You REALLY believe that? That's ignorant! Lets take Bison, for ex, there were herds in the millions before the west was taken over by settlers and hunted buffalo to near extinction! And how could you think natives destroyed land? Why did the Great Dust Bowl start?: By settlers who 'farmed and devoid the land of nutrients' and dried it up! when have natives done any of this, event? species of animals they almost killed off???

  • @eep2madness

And who was here on this land BEFORE native Americans? What about those people? They had to begin sharing this land with Indians, who's numbers grew over time.

All we ever hear about is how settlers came from Europe and Indians had to share the land with them. What about those before the Indians? And don't come up with this bullshit about there not being "anyone" here before that time because that's bullshit and everybody knows it.

  • @thebakerman1

Okay, so you seem to know SO much. Who was here before the Natives. What species of animals did they kill off and food they wasted. How many natives before native americans did they kill, rape and back stabbed? There may have been people here before the Native Americans but they didn't take over the land and destroy valuable resources in the name of a God and because they thought they were more superior. Dont ever try to compare the greed of western expansion with Native Americans

  • @eep2madness

Bottom line is you can't do SHIT about all that your bitching about. So keep on pissing and moaning about it because that's all you'll accomplish. But don't come of with this "Native Americans were here first" bullshit, like the rest of us don't deserve to live or something.

Fuck you and anyone who thinks that way.

  • @thebakerman1 sorry but that's the exact mentality the Europeans had against the Natives "like the rest of us don't deserve to live" they came up with lies said they were devil worshipers. Bottom line is: you're completely ignorant. A lot of Native Tribes greeted the settlers with great hospitality but the settlers back stabbed them. Those tribes who fought against the settlers had ALL THE RIGHT to protect their families and culture against hypocritical religious zealots. Theres plenty we can do

  • My boyfriend is actually a descendant of Iron Eyes Cody

  • The really said thing about this is that people shouldn't have to be told and reminded about this ! People should know better !

  • BUT THEY DON'T! =(

  • I am watching this for my marketing class and From a marketing standpoint this is the WORST public service announcement EVER because it is saying that neglect is popular and from a marketing standpoint people are sheep they will do what is popular before they break the mold. If they wanted this to be effective (also if they wanted the anti drug commercials to be effective) They would have a group saying no and ONE single person saying yes makeing it seem like littering and drugs were not common

  • Your a bloody IDIOT, grow up you fucking tool!

  • Good point! Thanks for sharing.

  • You have to wonder if we had paid more attention to this ad back when it came out would our not be in much better shape than it is now? Just food for thought.

  • we have don't mess with texas, and it has really worked!! for some reason, ppl think that our slogan means don't mess with texans.....

  • Creepy

  • I never saw this. Great ad. A+

  • Thanks for confirming to the world everything bad that people say about Americans, you ass.

  • This punk kid obviously has no future, and nothing better to do then waste his life being a true ass. You go punk, but dont ever cross my path; you better bring your boys with you, and their guns, and you all will still lose.

  • I have seen this ad on TV, but not the original. The original came a little bit before my time.

  • LOL.

  • And for those who don't know: Iron Eyes Cody was Italian.

  • Italian by birth, Native by heart, and he is accepted as that. He was a good man, and did many good things for the native people that he loved. Birth doesn't matter. Heart does.

  • @meijirevival he did many things with his tears

  • Fool, Iron Eyes Cody was redder than an albino after a week in Cancun. I happen to be 10 miles from Kaplan Louisiana, so I know. We post modern now. Which means if everybody wants Iron Eyes to be an Indian they ain't much a piss brown crumbling birth certificate can do about it. Ya boy was an Indian for sure, now leave well enough alone. And pick up ya damned trash.

  • Actually, he was Born Espera de Corti, to Antonio de Corti and Francesca Salpietra, who both immigrated from Sicily. I had no idea that it was the ancestral home of the Cherokee. I always thought they were from the south US, not south southern Italy, but I guess I was wrong.

  • Considering the adoption practices of many native tribes in the past - live with them and as them, be a part of their group and family, no matter your origin -...yes, pretty much. According to most of the tribes's own ancestral practices, all you have to do to be a Native American is living like them. The idea that blood defines race and family is a completely european-introduced concept. So good job on disrespecting their ancestral beliefs!

  • It's not disrespect. Today, to be considered 'Native American' you need to prove Native American blood ancestry. Wishful thinking doesn't make you Native American ... nor does being playing a Native American in movies or on TV make one Native American. Obviously you are not Native American.

  • There is a difference, however, v3rn3n, between internal cultural recognition and legalities. That is worth noting, I think -- and so do many Aboriginal leaders. Let's give that some credence? :)

Although I'm Canadian, the following example occurred too in the U.S.: take a Native woman in the 1800s, marry her to a white man, dress her in white women's clothes, convert her to Catholicism. have her live amongst the French. Legally separated from her band, still Aboriginal, culturally also French.

  • You make a very good point, NachosFairy.

Originally when I posted on this thread, it was to say how much I've always liked this psa and to add a bit of trivia: that Iron Eyes Cody was in fact Italian.

People jumped all over me about it, and I admit I've gotten sidetracked away from the real point of this psa: it doesn't matter.

Iron Eyes Cody here represents not just Native Americans, but all people because this is something that affects all of us. Blood doesn't matter. We're one people.

  • Ah, true, Dispiacere. I had not thought of it that way.

  • great ad.

  • yeah cus u know bus stops are the indians native land nowadays. I also like how the people neatl set the trash on the ground lol

  • you'd better pick it up before god lets the sun burn it- "Do you know where you'll be then"?- IN HELL SINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LOL. God isn't real, silly.

    E

  • Years ago when I worked as a hotel weekend desk manager in grad school in Tucson we met once. He called front desk and said his TV was broken. I was on duty that weekend evening. I brought him a new TV. We chatted and he gave me a small photo he had signed with him and Pope John Paul II. He seemed really proud to still be enjoying his travels and the notariety.. His legacy lives on ..

  • what the hell... without all the pollution and garbage new jersey would be just another state...

  • This would make a Native American cry. His "New York" is completely transformed. I still think Iron Eyes is great no matter what his ethnicity. This may be dated but, I feel he touches our conscience.

  • Still crying after all these years. It's no wonder - nothing has changed. Litter bugs should be ashamed of themselves! It makes me sick that nobody cares about their own environment.

  • Would you explain how it is racist? I thought it was the Indian in tears (look how they ruined this once very beautiful land) We cannot imagine how beautiful it was with only trees and lakes and no, absolutely no, beer cans, cig butts, and other junk in the streets. No trash on the beaches.

  • I have no problem with the message itself. I do see a problem with the portrayal of American Indians in it. The commercial transforms a whole race of people into 'natural natives.' It's the same kind of thinking that allowed Westerners to take advantage of Native Americans who they saw as closer to nature and thus 'uncivilized.' What's funny/sad is that this was made in 1998, and they still portray Indians as we think of them (in traditional dress and largely extinct).

  • I always thought he represented a time when Indians knew the land, or as the land was when he lived there--no cigerette butts in the streets, no candy wrappers and junk. Native Americans a hundred years ago weren't in the habit of littering the streets with beer cans and all types of crap and one of them gets to see the future and is sick to his stomach when he sees the litter. But I think it is good for you to say what you did. Get the sterotyped image out of people's heads. Have a good day.

  • Native americans a hundred years ago were hardly in any streets at all, and I suppose you don't find too many of them in the streets today?

I would try to stay away too...

Humans are in many aspects like bacteria that consumes it's surroundings and at the same time pollute it. In many aspects trained to do so. At the same time far too many that it could be possible for all but a fraction to live off the land.

Thus we get a polluting, consuming, 2nd society that just demands cheap food.

  • Well, if this commercial were done today. There would be these litterbugs sitting at a park bench and an Native American in feathers and beads would urinate a great deal on them, human water hose em down to express how he felt about people ruining the land.

  • I don't know if you are aware of what Canada's urban indians are like. I live in a place with a high visual percentage of Native and Metis people (mixture of French-Canadian and Native), and am Metis myself . There is a gross amount of poverty still among the Aboriginal people of our country, and in the city many times we see addicts and beggars, wanting money for coffee, cigarettes, booze, gambling, or street drugs... All across the prairies this is a terrible problem, and they lead sad lives.

  • Its a tragic thing Nachos for Native Americans or Metis people to fall into this state. Reallly for anyone of any race to fall into this state as addiction and begging as you describe is a sad problem in whites, Asians, black people and other races worldwide.

  • I would agree with this as well. I did not believe The Crying Indian represented a modern day man, but a Native man from a much older time.

I can't help but see him cry, though, and think "That's not what a traditional Native Indian would do -- because that's not what they DID do. They fought back!"

  • There is no portrayal of a whole race of people here. There is a picture of one man who happens to have long hair and happens to be crying. Did you even watch the ad before just throwing the word "racist" out there? It's really easy to do. I think the words "racist" and "stereotype" are largely overused these days. For one, a stereotype becomes a stereotype for a reason, and surrounding people just take notice. But why do I even bother? You're likely to have written me off into some category.

  • Racism can also be transmitted with innocent ignorance, however, and that is the danger that (I think) was being identified above by user "mthogg". It's not racism in the sense of hatred, but racism in the sense of failure to give credit to Aboriginals as peoples with the ability to advance, and live in the modern world -- or to give credit to those tribes who had the capability to survive and continue to exist.

  • I would also add that I do see how the Crying Indian is an anthropomorphisation of a time period for Natives, however.

  • Excellent thoughts, mthogg!

  • litter bugs eat poop!

  • kind of chilling though. i'm a little scared of moving pictures

  • wow, they really should bring this back to television

  • They wont't though, it's too much truth for America. These days anything constructive is left in the dust.

  • i have to agree with you on that. but it is a very strong commercial and i wish it was shown so people would get the point that just because iron eyes is dead, doesn't mean he's not watching us from above

  • Iron Eyes was still alive when this commercial aired in 1998. He died the following year.

  • Oh that was good, they really should show it again

  • OOhhh.. kinda creepy.. I never saw this one.. They should for sure re-air it and a slew like it.. :-)

  • They should run this Public Service Announcement (PSA) again.

  • Checkout my remix of the original psa. (using the Apache drum break)RIP Iron Eyes Cody.

  • LewisFilms, what is it called in your list of vids?

  • Oh geez, I never saw that before... that is chilling.

  • I saw this once.

  • lol i remember that episode
