@thegunclub123 I also thought ''the killer''was good, although I would have let the monkey out of the cage once in awhile.I mean seriously, can a hippo ride a unicycle?
Ya know AFI... the beauty of video is you can show pictures that relate to what the interviewee in talking about. That way the audience can stay in the loop.
@roboticpunk No need to fuck them because of the ad. Just download adblocker plus and kiss all those annoying/bullshit advertisments goodbye. I did it years ago and its great.
Hey, do any of you Tarantino fans out there enjoy John Woo's "The Killer". I feel like the only one. Everyone else disregards it as shlock, hackneyed, soap, rubbish, etc. And I must admit, it's my favorite film (Reservoir Dogs is in my top 10 as well). Am I just an idiot? Or is there really something great about the film that people can relate to, because it touches me very much.
I think it's great. It's nice and simple, explores the classic theme of the cop and criminal being one and the same, like a yin/yang thing. There's not much to it, but I don't think it pretends to be anything other than it is.
@murraymach3-Phew. Thanks! I would say that there isn't much to the story outline, yes, but the choreography, editing, acting, etc. aren't what I'd call method or rudimentary. Still, I get what you mean. The film gets my vote for favorite film (as said), one of my favorite lead acting performances and characters in Chow's Ah Jong, and my fave supporting male performance for the guy who played Sidney, Chu Kong. Thanks for your time!
@WilsonPrimeChannel of course and you do realize that the black suits aren't going to fit into EVERY movie right? Technically black suits are featured in Inglourious Basterds in the theater scene. They aren't exactly like Jules and Vincent, but it's also a period film. As for Death Proof? Nope. No suits and I doubt that there will be black suits in Django Unchained. They don't have to be in EVERY movie to be Tarantino's thing. Just sayin'
Although I do not align with Overhang88's crass words there is a difference between homage and high budget mash-up. Tarantino has never made an original film in his whole career. But thats not what he does. He is just a movie fan who makes films based on what he loves. He also goes too far.
He doesn't homage he appropriates (as Godard stated).
The only outstanding part of his films are his dialogue and the music. Everything else is a mash up of stolen scenes, shots and dialogue.
@thegorn68 Its just my opinion man, his movies are talentless, un-original and dull. If you like his *cough* "work" then thats fine. I just prefer movies that actually have story, meaning and depth.
Take Inglorious basterds for example: "Lets just make a movie where we kill germans and then kill hitler because i am a jew and i dont like the germans, that sounds like a great idea, who needs a story? pfffft! People will watch it no matter what because ill just say its good"
@lim11191@lim11191 I agree 100%. No one wants to see a 10 minute interveiw chopped into 20 pieces, but AFI really don't care what ppl think. That's why I don't care about them. Fortunatly there are better sources anyway.
I really respect Quentin Tarantino's work. Whether you love him or loathe him, you can't deny that the black suits are now associated with him.
He made them iconic.
And he's made a good point how all movies 'take' from other movies. That's not because people can't come up with something original. Instead, it's a showing respect by paying homage to these previous films.
Infact, Pulp Fiction has lots of clues that are 'taken' from classic movies.
@hypnotic230 and may I add sir, no one really has any original ideas. Everything borrows from something else, when you borrow from many distant things and remix them to your own thing then it is seen as 'original.' So, all you can do is take and remake but it's how well you do that. It's what separate's a copy cat from a contributing artist.

Indeed. I am reminded of how, when I saw the Bandaras (spelling?) version of Zorro, there is a "Z drawn on the pants" part which is an exact duplicate of the silent version with Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. I love it when I hear kids say, "oh, they stole that from this" when getting it completely backwards. In 100 years, some kid will see a Tarantino film and say "Hey, he stole that from [modern at that time] Korugawa or whomever. All of it is connected.

I hope he works the black suits somehow into his next film. I loved Inglourious Basterds, but I did miss the black suits.

Lee Marvin and Clu Gulager played two hitmen wearing those same Reservoir Dogs-type black suits in 1964's THE KILLERS directed by Don Siegel.
