I remember this being one of the pieces that would be played during our brigade Pass in Review, where the Brigade commander, a full bird colonel would "inspect" the troops. I actually believe this is the tempo that was used, since a brigade is quite large to inspect, hence giving him more time to inspect.

Everybody needs to stop saying "Oh this is too slow, we played this much faster blah, blah, blah." The band that played this fine recording is British, and traditionally, European bands take marches at a "walking" pace as some people would say. It is better to be slow and correct than fast and wrong.

This is a classic military march. You can't march at 160 per with troops following behind. Some college bands today go for that super up-tempo stuff, and that's fine if you like that kind of thing. I'm and old military bandsman, and this is march tempo the way it should be. I have played Bravura numerous times and it brings back fine memories.

Any faster and with most bands it becomes unclear. I like it at this pace when you can hear the chord structure and that cool counter melody :)

Look I know the Americans are very keen on playing marches at ridiculously high tempos but the march in the recording was played by a British band who, like the rest of Europe, play marches at a steady walking pace.

This brings back memories. I played this in a marching band, along with the Bombasto march, on July 4, 1979 in Coronado, CA. That was a loooong time ago. It's so good to hear it again that I might pick up the trombone again after 25 years.

I played this march my senior yr in high school, & took 3rd at the Selma Band Review in 2007. Next to Washington Post, this is one of my favorite marches, except we only played the intro once, instead of twice, & then into the trio. Luv this march, & would play it again, at a reunion concert!
