In my mind, I can envision a squadron of B-17s flying in formation with contrails streaming from behind each plane. The crewmen were on constant watch for German fighters,but, many thought of completing all their missions and going home. I dedicate this sublime version in very loving memory of My Heavenly-Resplendent Wife -- The Darling of My Life (and Afterlife) My Barbra Rose. The chimes at the end of this song remind me of My Barbra's eyes (stars) watching over me at Christmas and Forever.

This song makes me so sad...my boy is in Afganistan on his second deployment...I miss him so much. I guess listening to this and "have yourself a Merry Little Christmas" makes me even sadder, but Frank sinatra is awesome; reminds me of dad too.

I think Frank is the only artist to ever capture the utter sadness of this song. My grandpa had to send an empty promise like this to his family during WW2. Imagine how rough that would have been for those poor boys out there.

@broadwaymelody33 My uncle was in the Army Air Corps during WWII. The last song he heard before being shipped out to England was Irving Berlin's White Christmas (sung by Bing Crosby). My uncle wept so hard that the stationary which he wrote upon was stained with his tears. During his first two missions, his squadron lost over half their crews and their bombers. I needn't remind anyone that 1943 was the worst year for Allied Air Forces over Fortress Europe during WWII.

I just read in today's (Dec. 16, 2011) edition of my local paper: "American troops out of Iraq -- most will be home for Christmas 2011." After reading that, I just want to celebrate Christmas 2011 even earlier! I think that tonight (Dec. 16, 2011) every radio station in America should play every version of "I'll Be Home For Christmas" as our guys and gals in uniform step off of planes and onto American soil! Welcome home, folks! A Merry Christmas 2011 to you and your families!!

I dedicate this song in VERY loving memory of my Heavenly-Resplendent Wife - My Western Star -- My Rose of Heaven and Santa Rosa CA -- My Barbra Rose. We were married only two years before cancer stole Barbra away from me (on Nov. 22, 2010). Since that time, Christmas is eternal for My Barbra. I hope and pray to be with Jesus and My Barbra very soon. The twinkling chimes at the end of this song remind me of the stars in My Barbra's loving eyes as she watches over me. Growing up i never had a traditional Christmas, because my family was poor and very large ( 5 brothers and 1 sister ). Even though we never had a Christmas tree or presents I loved Christmas... The snow, the lights, the smells, the holiday spirit and the MUSIC. It was all so amazing, so magical. Though my childhood memories weren't filled with the festivities and gifts of Christmas... The scenery and the joy of it all was enough to fall in love. Thanks for uploading and happy holidays to all!
