this is the same "alternative" seattle scene label from the 90's ... wtf !?!?!
this is the music they made a living absolutely castigating back in the day ... i mean you understand the irony here right? taking a shit on this kind of stuff in the late 80s and early 90s was absolutely their bread and butter ... it was how they made their money and made a name for themselves.
this isnt subpop ... its. just. ... pop. it may be independently made, but its pop nevertheless ...
Sublime Pop. When was pop ever deep? Never!!!!!!! 4 X 4 gets me tapping some more. Plus the chorus sung by a crowd makes me feel like I am part of the hot , cool brunette crowd.....
ok, so music confuses me. So this song obviously isn't deep, its not bad or anything, but it's mostly aesthetic value right? so my point is that i know people that talk shit bout rap and other stuff they say has no meaning and is just for aesthetic value, but yet they listen to stuff like this. now why would some say its better, the sub pop sign of approval? maybe its because the intentions behind bands like these are more likely not to sell out but just to have fun? looking for opinions
@HARDC0RY503 some people don't like rap? idk I feel like people are just taking songs about bitches and hos to stereotype it and then they have a reason besides just not liking the musical styling of NWA
@HARDC0RY503 Good point! It doesn't bother me when music is not deep, it bothers me when it's not sincere (i.e. when the artist sings about something they know nothing about or don't really care about). It's okay if your music is shallow, as long as that's how you're really feeling.
@mangarda completely agree. ive always said what makes art art is intentions, which you phrased as being sincere which i like. so ya, just saying good job on being insightful haha
I'd say this is a more credible record being written and performed by the band with as a means in itself as opposed to commercial music which is a means to an end which is money.
I think also you've got to look at this and see it isn't a massive hit it's 3 years old and has less than 60 thousand views whereas you can look at song with equal or less depth with millions and millions of views. So why should it be thought of in the same vain?
@HARDC0RY503 The intent and attitude I would think. The rap that is no less deep is mostly done with the intent of money and to sell an image of 'tough/cool' which subsequently helps sell more by attracting (usually younger people) into the attitude and culture. Bands like this are usually more interested in just making a song for the fun of making something and revel in the creation. That attitude really comes off in the music, and that, I think, is the reason. I say all this in general terms.
@HARDC0RY503 It really has to do with actual musical talent. Most music is aesthetic, but why would you listen to samples and drum machine music made by producers in a studio when you have people playing actual instruments as a band, writing and creating their own music.
Quality track. Clowns who don't quite understand the lost art of tongue-in-cheek should maybe stick to listening to The Mickey Mouse Club. Seriously, some idiots out there have all the vision of Ray Charles
omg subpop records is a golden music mine! i love the go team, css, sleater kinney, just discovered Foal, they remind me of The Klaxtons, who i also love, [dont kill me] and now these guys. im in more love. Oh subpop will you marry me? <3
Finally we get a good look at her face after 2:22 and... sadly wasn't worth the wait, great band though.
