The definition of marriage has changed over time; do any amount of research and that's what you find. Well, I don't really oppose gay marriage but I oppose the government condoning it. It is not the governments place to decide. It's a religious function. By their own admission they want the monetary benefits to being married. Well, why are there monetary benefits??? I dealt with this in the military with married guys getting out of work because they were married. Get rid of the monetary benefits of getting married and the "problem" of gay marriage will dissappear.

See, there's this thing called commodities, and they go for things like natural gas, wheat, sugar, that kind of thing. Maybe 5 years inflation above 15%?

I don't see how this discussion can take place without the use of the Bible because marriage is an institution created by God. Humans were designed to procreate. One reason I oppose gay marriage is that it removes my freedom of religion. I'd be more okay with it if gays didn't impose their beliefs on Christians. Currently gay people have the same rights as straight people, in that everyone has a right to marry someone of the opposite sex who is not a relatively closely blood relation. Marriage is a heterosexual union because it is intimately tied to the production fo children, as well as to the stable passing on of values.
Actually, they do not have the same rights as a normal married couple. The government sanction you state prevents them from seeing each other in emergency situations where only "family members" are allowed to be present. Tax laws are different etc. it is discriminatory.

The definition of marriage has changed over time; do any amount of research and that's what you find. Allowing gays to marry is not such a big issue if you're not of a particular religious interpretation. Even then, why should their views be held as tyrannical and sacrosanct?? Also, I think that marriage should be left to the state, and based upon a 'civil union' type contract for everybody, not a license. Well, I don't really oppose gay marriage but I oppose the government condoning it. It is not the governments place to decide. It's a religious function. By their own admission they want the monetary benefits to being married. Well, why are there monetary benefits??? I am not a homophobe nor a hater, but due to my beliefs, I personally feel homosexuality is just another temptation, some may have predispositions to certain temptations but it is best to overcome. Yes, I know you disagree. A gold standard isn't necessary. What we need is a responsible custodian of the currency. One that can resist the desire to print money for the politicians. Even if you use an asset (gold,silver,etc) the custodian can still revalue the currency against the asset which backs it in order to create money. With a gold standard you declare the dollar worth less gold. You just need to make gold ownership illegal 1st. This enables money printing even on a gold standard; and this has already happened.

The 14th amendment says gays have a right to get married. Personally, I don't think the government should play any role in marriage anyway. You need a license to have a dog. Shouldn't need one to have a spouse. If you're referring to your spouse as a dog, time to consider a divorce.

In Canada we have no such thing as food-stamps.
Instead most places have voluntary food banks, it's in actual food, not any form of fiat cash or even real money (gold, silver). If you are in need, you can take from the available food. If the nation is hurting that supply will be little or none, then you can't get anything. We don't just print money and deficit-spend to supply the poor. Even welfare is directly controlled from taxation: tax cuts=welfare cuts 99% of the time

@43findnemo welfare itself typically gives something around 75% of what you need for rent and 80% of what you need for food for a month. If you're able to find a crack-shack neighborhood where your rent is low enough to be covered you'll have to worry about getting stabbed, or your neighbors kids stabbing your kids, and people breaking in and stealing anything you have, including food, depending on the city. Not always so bad in my city now but it has been like that in the worst parts of town

FYI, if people have less money, and inflation initially goes up, it has to go back down, ceteris paribus, because with no money to buy, prices will have to fall. The only problem is the time lag, and the negative effect on people with fixed income, typically the elderly and the poor. But with the massive and unrepayable federal debt, coupled with all the off-balance sheet debt, like Social Security and Medicare, and the cities' pension funds, inflation will take over. Good-bye America!!!!!!!

See, there's this thing called commodities, and they go for things like natural gas, wheat, sugar, that kind of thing. By throwing the inflated money into there, knowing the currency itself has little value, the prices are spiked up for food, so the poor starve and die. This is here to stay a while. Maybe 5 years inflation above 15%?

At that point, it won't matter how much money the rich have. They can't consume or profitably re-sell all the commodities that all those (inflated) dollars would buy. That's why central banks have been robbing people for a hundred years, it's never returned to normal pricing or you'd pay a quarter for a gallon of gas, a dime for a pack of cigarettes. Prices do not get restored. They can profitably re-sell TO EACH OTHER and keep printing.

I don't see how this discussion can take place without the use of the Bible because marriage is an institution created by God. Humans were designed to procreate. If two consenting adults want to spend the rest of their lives together then go for it, but why do gays feel the need to call it a “MARRIAGE”? One reason I oppose gay marriage is that it removes my freedom of religion. I'd be more okay with it if gays didn't impose their beliefs on Christians. It has been shown time and time again where gay marriage is legal gays will sue churches and religious organizations for not performing their marriage or not bending over backwards to let them use our facilities. My church is private property, if I don't want you to hold your wedding on it's property the courts have no say in that.

Reggie, no one is preventing them from getting married. They can already get married. This is about receiving government sanction and therefore societal approval. Currently gay people have the same rights as straight people, in that everyone has a right to marry someone of the opposite sex who is not a relatively closely blood relation. Marriage is a heterosexual union because it is intimately tied to the production fo children, as well as to the stable passing on of values.

Actually, they do not have the same rights as a normal married couple. The government sanction you state prevents them from seeing each other in emergency situations where only "family members" are allowed to be present. Tax laws are different etc. it is discriminatory.

Absent modern medical technology, homosexual unions specifically and as a theme would bring procreation to a screeching halt.
