@EVILTHETURTLE: They aren't stupid. They intentionally did not call for a caution (when they would have if anyone but Jr were leading), because they had a built in excuse. They could say Burton hit nothing and got going again. If they had thrown it on the last lap with nothing on the track, they would have no excuse other than they wanted Jr to win. At that point, even Jr Nation would not be able to refute blatant favoritism. NASCAR has a credibility to maintain.
