i have to say the black haired ones technique was good but she had an opening when the other one knocked her to the ground good reflex grabbing the blade but she also could have tripped the other girl by moving her leg in the right position and pulling one leg from beneath the other thus giving her enough time to grab her sword and return to her fighting stance and possibly counter attack

Nice acting, do it a bit faster and without the pauses and it will look great. and yes they are hand and a half swords. broadswords compard to other long swords is that they can be used two handed or one handed with a sheild or just one handed. just long swords are able to use two weapons. due to their size/weight.

The civil war broadsword was meant to be used on horse back and with only one hand because they were still having to control their horse with the other. So they might have some more trouble swinging those accurately with one hand. Wasn't it known as the wrist breaker?

more likely that they arent broadswords or maybe a more modern version of the real thing and even then maybe a light version of that. women are very weak in the upper body but i do agree training can help to an extent.

@ballbagbaggins The "heavy" sword idea is really a myth perpetuated by Hollywood. Whether in Europe or Asia, the weight of swords is fairly consistent. A one handed weapon usually weighs between 1.5 and 2.5-ish lbs, and a two handed weapon like a longsword between 2.5 and 3.5 lbs. I've handled many antique European weapons (and study and teach their use) and they are remarkably light and fast. :)

@claracampi willimpie should have explained more, when somone says "Broadsword" they think of the Chinese broadsword, or in some cases the great sword, what he thinks is that in this video you are using a longsword, broadsword is a common term used for many different types of swords lol, it gets confusing. but you are right on the money this is a broad sword.

Willimpie, dont just say "this is not broadsword" give further elaboration on your statement lol.perhaps you will learn something.

The sequence is pretty okay, just one little thing: next time when playing a swordfight avoid to take the blade in any place other than the hilt (or just above it), even if you were wearing gauntlets you'd get your hands slashed badly --and to my experience, a sense of realism is a very important emotion for the audience AND the actors--.

Nice, dramatic choreography. Some of the naysayers (myself included) would debate the effectiveness of exposing one's back to an enemy (during the spin) or blocking edge to edge. However, this was certainly a cleanly rehearsed fight and quite enjoyable to watch.

European sword-arts are far more sophisticated than most people realize. In fact those that only relied on their strength when fighting were often ridiculed by medieval swordmasters such Sigmund Ringeck. He called such fighters "Buffels" meaning Oxen, i.e. clumsy and unskilled. If you would like to see some techniques using European sword I have and entire Playlist devoted to them. actually, when you hold the sword with the other hand on the blade it is a term called half-swording. the Germans perfected this technique.

No. Only modern blades are sharpened to near the hilt. In medieval times, only the point and about 9" to a foot was actually sharp. In combat, a broadsword was used much like a club, and if you were wielding it and managed to knock your opponent's blade away, then you would thrust with it to make, if not the kill, then a disabling blow.
