  • Check out the temp gauge in the upper left corner. Way to dog your truck with a cold engine.

  • Defiantly has a tune. The stock computer will shift the truck at 5k rpm.

  • @tbirdsport302 Thanks man, I believe that the previous owner put a JET Programmer on it. But after this video i sent the computer off to Wait4Me Performance and had them tune it for the mods done to the truck.

  • @SuperBrandango I drive around town in 3 so that it will only shift up to 3rd gear because the speed limit through my town is 40 and when it goes into overdrive it bogs down to 1300 and i HATE it.... it feels like i have no power (and it sounds wierd as hell). In 3 it will rev up to 2000 which is right where i like it and where it starts making power and torque in case i need to pass.

  • @99LSDyme lol, mine dosent bog down, try some new spark plugs or a k&n air filter

  • @SuperBrandango It has a K&N filter and brand new E3 plugs w/ MDS wires, coil, and an Accel cap and rotor. Trust me it has plenty of power, i think its my trans though... it shifts very awkwardly.

  • @99LSDyme hmm what year is it? i know if you chip the truck you can make it shift a little harder, and i think you can change the shift points

  • @SuperBrandango It's a 99. The guy that i bought it from back in 04 said that he did some trans work and put a trans programmer on it himself. I think he messed some crap up because he was no transmission specialist. Im just going to get it rebuilt with a Transgo HD2 shift kit and send my ECU back to wait 4 meand have it flashed and have the torque managment removed plus all the stuff it already has done to it. It shoud really wake her up then! lol

  • @SuperBrandango Yup! I'd attempt to go back and try to mess with it and hope it fixes what he did, but I've never used one so I would be afraid to spend the money and not be able to fix it.

  • @99LSDyme haha yea its just better to go get it tuned by someone who knows about them, you will spend about the same price for a programmer but you will get the most out of it with a professional

  • It really only helps with throttle response and low RPM driving; you dont have to get on the pedal so much to get it going. But if you get on it from a dead stop like this you have to ease into the gas until about 3000RPM as i did, if not the motor gets a little too much air and bogs till about 4000RPM. But it knocked my 1/4 time from a 16.6 to a 16.4 if that tells you anything but that was before i got my computer re-mapped.

  • Thanks for the detailed explanation. I have a 97 4.3 S10. I want a little more top end. I feel the truck is geared too low and it revs at 2500 rpm at 75mph. I know it has the nuts to pull the truck at a lower rpm. Any odea for mods?

    Also, is the Extreme the same motor and everything? Yours looks a bit faster than mine.

  • Yeah Xtremes have the same motor, but there are 2 4.3's a reg. one and a H.O. one, mine has the H.O. As far as top end id do exhaust and a intake along with this in conjunction it really made my truck pull. Before i did the exh. and intake it would pull untill about 70ish. Now this thing will pull HARD all the way up to 100, after that idk what happens..... 100MPH speedo FTLl. But the baddest thin i did was the re tuned computer. When i did that she really came alive and it was only 75 bucks.

  • @rearwheelslider caus the extreme is newer and depending on the vin you can tell about how much hp and torque you make. I have a 2003 v6 which is x code just look at the 6th digit of your vin so it has around 250 lb ft of torque and around 190 hp. Mine does have a k&n air intake so it may havea little more but not sure i need to dyno it thought

  • I really dont know the changes between the 2, but it's only a 15 to 20ish hp difference. And this was before i got the comp. re-mapped.
