Coughlan, I normally totally agree with you, and I am no supporter of the EDL, or the BNP, but I think you may have missed a point this time round. I think by political prisoner he MAY be referring to the fact that his bail conditions where that he was not allowed to join in with his parties political rallys (although that is a terrible mis-use of the term "political prisoner"). But if he did really mean that he was arrested for his political beliefs then I stand corrected.

House arrest would ban him from leaving his own home and as the point of that would be to keep him away from EDL activity, it's more than likely he'd also be banned from contacting the EDL. Under house arrest he'd have no freedom outside of his own home, so there's no way he'd be freer.

And to address your claim about Britain going back to their Christian roots, take a look in history and see who founded America, what religion was dominant, and how non whites were treated. In the US, the history of religion and hatred is impossible to separate, which is one of the many reasons why we non religious in the US are more vocal than our European counterparts.

@Liekkek Funny the most overtly "Christian" parts of Britain currently are Northern Ireland and Western Scotland, neither of which seem particularly happy. Those areas are also the most divided, and see large numbers of organised violence, terrorism theft and arson. Christianity in the UK and Ireland has been closely linked with civil war persecution, murder and discrimination of every kind.

I have and it is without a doubt heavily Christian in atmosphere and outlook, especially compared to the rest of Britain and Ireland. And yet the people for the most part are miserable and live in a decades long conflict between Two Christian communities I might add.
