it probably has to do with the tone. where you pluck the strings will give it a deeper/twangier/muffed/what have you sound. if he is slapping it, he may go closer to the neck. idk if you ever heard the song street carp by deftones, but this is a good example. at the end of the song he plays really really close to the bridge and it gets kind of the same sound. its the only other song i can think of to describe what im talking about .

@scott031b well i can tell you that the peavey zodiac is a very good bass, because i own one haha. i think sound gears are really good too personally not a big fan of squires...not bad but im just not into them. but the zodiac has a good range of ability,(slap or finger or pick all good) i like that its passive vs the sound gear being active but all in all zodiac or sound gear is good.
