  • Great concert, from the phase where Horowitz' playing combined transcendental virtuosity with the highest precision and an immense excitement (one hears it also in the Islamey of 1950). Great updoad again - thank you so much, kasyapa! Your're generosity is an immense gift to all Horowitz fans worldwide.

  • I wonder who the announcer is--sounds a bit like Martin Bookspan, but Bookspan joined only some years later. Incredible concert in any case.

  • @richterkleiber - He gives his name at the end: Bill Strauss.

  • Thanks for this posting - I can;t believe the difference your cleanup process has made. The playing is exemplary. Just how does he shape all the independent voices simultaneously?

  • @maestrojimbo Pianists have been trying to figure that out for 50 years!

  • @shubus - I make an attempt below. : )

  • @maestrojimbo - He gave some hints to his students, in interviews, and so on. I think the most important thing is to conceive music multi-dimensionally, with contrast and affect, and - a point pianists today miss constantly - a proper relation of background and foreground. So many of them churn out the notes and it means nothing because of the lack of levels of background and foreground.

  • @kasyapa The concept is not hard to understand though. Being able to do it is the hard bit.
