Great concert, from the phase where Horowitz' playing combined transcendental virtuosity with the highest precision and an immense excitement (one hears it also in the Islamey of 1950). I wonder who the announcer is--sounds a bit like Martin Bookspan, but Bookspan joined only some years later. Incredible concert in any case.

@maestrojimbo - He gave some hints to his students, in interviews, and so on. I think the most important thing is to conceive music multi-dimensionally, with contrast and affect, and - a point pianists today miss constantly - a proper relation of background and foreground. So many of them churn out the notes and it means nothing because of the lack of levels of background and foreground.
