@xXCREEKSTARXx "rat" is the idea that its doesnt take a lot of money to make a monster rod. rat rod builders focus on the function and not the form, this is why its flat black, or rusty and odds and ends dont match. these days its a full on style that is exaggerated to celebrate a time period. thats all. remember the hot rod the "munsters" had, that was rat! Its a little bit greaser, a little bit zombie and some old farm parts that collected rust. dont forget the rat. its a feeling.

@xXCREEKSTARXx ok you ever seen "stand by me" the villans were rats. the other way around is if you ever watched "american graffiti" those kids were clean in comparison, its not clean or not clean, its class, one set was rich and one was poor, the rich kids got the shiny "in and out" "50's diner" rods. and the poor ones made thier own in the garage with anything they could find. its a little more "mad max" rather than "Mr. sandman".

@xXCREEKSTARXx Let me also say this... the song mr. sandman by the chordettes was a great example of the simplicity of how things were in the 50's. people worked hard, found love, it lasted, it was secure and comfortable, they made a family. Now a days its hell in comparison, the rats were there in the 50's, they were the ones from broken homes. its like saying "a broken home in the 50's would be better than what is happening now". sometimes its just being a rebel too.

ACTUALLY, 28-29 were the same (I believe?), changed in 1930, and 31 was different, (the shape for 30/31 is the same, but one has an indent, the other is flat) and a duece shell was completely different... but thanks for trying to correct me anyway.

Thanks for posting a video of the car actually moving! Too many videos of the cars just idling in the driveway or puttsing around. I liked the chirp of the rubber when he got on it in the end.

BTW, from my observation rat rods are usually hot rods in primer and are intended to be a work in progress. The intent is to replicate the 50's culture that didn't have endless money to just build a car off the shelf. Therefore kids had to pick the priorities, and paint usually lost the top spot.

"rat rod" came from times when people were simply putting cars together from scrap parts, in order to have SOMETHING to ride. Basically, all the technical side was kept in a good condition, while the looks of the car were the very last things in mind. That's where the term came from - running well, but ugly - as a rat. Car featured in this video.. all shiny.. neatly painted.. a Rat Rod? No. Just as street culture nowadays. Getting a mohawk does not turn you into a punk.
