Plus this is 1987, give Leno a break he literally a novice at the time. So let's focus on two awesome talents and be happy we have access to these rare clips!
Because guys like Carson, Steve Allen, Jack Paar, Dick Cavett (hell even Merv Griffin and Joey Bishop) dont exsist anymore! Everyone likes to imagine Letterman is on par with them, but he is not. Niether is Conan, nor Leno....not bashing any of them, but there is a huge, huge gap in talent and poise with those two groups.
And honestly, Letterman just feels like he quit trying atleast 10 years ago, not to mention all his fueds/sex scandals. Too much baggage for late nite talk if you ask me!
Roy makes sure KD gets attention and credit during the interview, and even kisses her in passing at the end, as if he felt her humiliation of Jay treating her like she was some minor talent who was only there because she won a contest or something. What a sweet soul this man was... God love him.
