What is frightening is that George actually looked surprised at the factual truth. This is the problem with most Americans...they really don't understand Economics 101 and the engine of competition being an on-going battle. Unions drive up cost, when our labor laws protect employees from unethical or unfair employers. Higher costs mean lower profits. Lower profits mean the company EITHER needs to raise its prices (and risk losing competitive battle) OR it needs to send jobs overseas 2 save $
Why do so many liberals regurgitate the Boxer attack Ads? Even if I were to agree with them, although I know they are not correct since HP is and has been the top PC/server maker in the world. I don't know about you, but for me it's an easy choice between picking someone who ran a state and a country into the ground (Boxer) and someone who supposedly "ran a company into the ground". Anyways, HP would not have Carly's bio on their homepage if she "destoryed" the company.
I can't believe these damned companies have gotten sovereign states and nations to compete with each other for the companies' favor. U.S. corporations (with some exceptions) only exist b/c state law provides for their existence. Talk about the tail wagging the dog. It's just disgusting to listen to these corporate folk, who think their "Who Moved My Cheese" bullshit is part of the fabric of the universe.
You got it right turnrob. She is saying a corporation should not have to pay taxes. It is the old "the rich get richer and the poor get poorer" thing. If you make the rich a little richer, well then, some of it has to trickle down philosophy.
Hey dumbass, corporations dont pay taxes anywhere in the world, they never have and never will, they pass them onto the consumer by raising the price of the goods and services they produce. They MUST do this in order to stay in business. Companies could be manufacturing in the US, there stuff would just be priced higher, or their quality would have to be lower, because of higher taxes So who do you work for?
What an idiot. The point is that other nations DO NOT allow corporations to leave overseas earnings untouched so they have no incentive NOT to bring the earnings back. SHE is the one who got schooled by George. He let her off the hook, sadly. There's a reason the Board cleaned house and whacked her.
Carly was talking about the incentives of investors.
In a static world, you and George are correct, but Carly understands that enterprise will simply choose to incorporate in places like Singapore Hong Kong and even Europe, if you close loopholes for American business, leaving taxes constant. As a result, our capital will be more than happy to follow them and you would have accomplished nothing, if not certain economic ruin.
@LexPhilogus Um, no she was not talking about incentives of investors, Lex. She was asked about corporate tax policy.
The US does indeed have higher corporate taxes than other nations...true....ONLY if you ignore their VAT of 20%! The US has no VAT, of course, so our all-in corporate taxes are typically lower. The issue comes from the unavoidability of paying VAT and not wanting to pay taxes on profits here. Overseas manufacturing is about cheap labor and zero pollution controls. Fool.
Hong Kong doesn't have a VAT and Singapore's is in the single digits historically. The Canadians pay about a 13% VAT.
So your solution is make America much less competitive than other countries, and hence the outcome I described. Suddenly Europe looks relatively better, and Hong Kong, much better.
Carly simply sees lower rates as being more competitive, and clearly you missed that.
@sdavis3398 "Overseas manufacturing is about cheap labor"
That's true but taxing profits and closing loopholes won't affect this at all. Those countries will still have cheap labor. You're an idiot if you think don't think European companies don't offshore.
Because thats the only reason anyone would be for higher taxes on anyone. Poor people dont employee anyone and government produces absolutely no consumer goods.
I seem to Remember Reagan giving massive tax cuts for the top. And he left us about 2.3 in debt between those cuts and spending. And what about Bush's massive tax cuts for the top? Bush outsourced millions of jobs on his watch. In fact, those Repukes are still trying to get Obama to pass those corrupt trade deals between Panama, Columbia & South Korea. And they know it'll pound the shit out of American workers if they're passed. This is all bullshit. Just another Lying greedy CEO..
Carlie schools Democrats on economics??? Are you fucking kidding me? This country is getting it's life's blood sucked the hell out of it by the corporate machine that feeds these politicians millions in campaign contributions, and you think this is how it should be? How could any company compete with this? And as far as her re-educate people bullshit goes, re-educate them for what, every industry is gone. We had the best in the world and they were left pissing in the wind.
@HemiHead66 Actually the countries 'life blood' is corporations. Without corporations you have no tax revenue, no tax revenue, and you have no social programs, I'm sure you love.
Solution is smaller government, lower taxes, and more companies hiring more people. Tax revenue goes up with lower taxes. Proven in the 1920s, and 1980s.
@Brantoc Even though I feel like slamming the hell out of ya. I won't! Did you watch this video? I doubt you did. These corporations that you think are providing tax revenue are providing NOTHING. And smaller Govt. is not the answer. Someone has to keep these robber-barons in line. They twisted our whole fucking system in their favor robbing us blind. And less tax don't mean more tax revenue. Not when you're spending out the ass. Small Govt. don't mean less spending.
@HemiHead66 Small government does mean less spending. And I say stop welfare as we know it. Cut people under 50 (including me) out of Social Security, and put that inside normal tax revenue. Lots else I can say, but too long.
The Laffer Curve, I do know it. Exactly where do people in New York, New Jersey, LA, and elsewhere in "Progressive Utopia" who have combined taxes in the 70-90% range fit on that graph, or giving EVERYONE a 20% VAT? The VAT system sure helped Europe, oh wait, it didn't.
@Brantoc Do you have any Idea what you're talking about with Social Security? Don't you know they've been taking your money for your retirement and stealing it? Don't you know you're being lied to and SS has drew a surplus almost every year it been around? Don't you know that 4.6 trillion of our 12 trillion debt is owed to us, and it was stolen from SS and Medicare?
@HemiHead66 Yes, and a LARGE percentage of people in their 50s and 60s have no other retirement. If they started a retirement account today it would not help them sufficiently. As a country we should have worked ourselves off SS decades ago, but we didn't. Republican or Democrat. It has to start now, and I don't mean now as "oh some time soon when nothing else is going on".. I MEAN RIGHT NOW. People under 50 should start a retirement account. (damn small messages)
@Brantoc Well then the Govt. should stop taking their money. I don't know what you mean by - Cut people under 50 (including me) out of Social Security, and put that inside normal tax revenue. I've been paying into that damn thing for 30 years, and I'm getting mine. You might want to explain a little further on this subject.. I don't know what you mean by, put that inside normal tax revenue.
@Brantoc Why don't you just read what I asked you to then you'll see. There is an out-come to the events over the last decade. They do keep track of all this stuff. Of course lower taxes are a good thing. But not while you're spending out the ass. And definitely not while we're trillions in debt.
@Brantoc Why don't you just read what I asked you to then you'll see. There is an out-come to the events over the last decade. They do keep track of all this stuff. Of course lower taxes are a good thing. But not while you're spending out the ass. And definitely not while we're trillions in debt.
@Brantoc And I was never on a social program in my life. You right-wingers think you know everybody. Like all Democrats are free-loaders on welfare. That has to be the stupidest fucking thing I've ever heard in my life. How about all Republicans are dumb-ass Red-Necks that can't do any research on their own. Go do some research on the Laffer curve and see if those tax cuts actually paid for the themselves. Look up - Economic policy of the George W. Bush administration Wiki.
What a lying bitch--we are not the second highest in the world. That's is simply not true--there are all kinds of loopholes. Most companies pay nominal amounts of revenue in taxes. It's simply the cost of doing business.

The reason that HP is #1 is due to their channel provider model. While Fiorina deserves some credit, the expansion of the channel model occurred when she was on her way out and after she was canned - she had very little hand in this. The Compaq merger was butchered - she antagonized Michael Capellas and didn't exploit their U.S.-based manufacturing channels - this is why HP went abroad.
No, the other countries don't attract our industry with lower tax rates, they attract our industry by providing: 1)and educated work force 2)poor work conditions we wouldn't put up with in this country 3)third world labor rates 4)unfettered poluting rights
I wonder what financial alchemy you are using to come up with that.

The FACT is that we have the 2nd highest cooperate tax rate in the world trailing only Japan. A country that has been financially stagnating for over a decade.
There are plenty of good arguments to be made in favor of corporate income tax cuts, but that doesn't change the fact that most corporations pay far less than the nominal rate. It's disingenuous to suggest otherwise. And by the way, Japan's economic stagnation is attributable to a far more mundane cause - Japan's declining population. Japan's per capita GNP has risen steadily (high single-digits).
