I think it's time they bring back Mike Browning on drums and vocals, Richard Brunelle on guitar and Dallas Ward on bass! Abominations is their finest hour, but also Altars Of Madness is super solid album (Immortal Rites is their very best song period) and side A of Blessed Are The Sick also has many strong points. But after that it went downhill fast. I suspect David Vincent has something to do with it... Mike's vocals were the best. And his drums had an amazing groove, very simple but perfect.
Abominations is a particularly evil sounding album, and that's saying something considering there have been a few wicked offerings over the years. Mike Browning was criminally overlooked for his abilities, and his vocals were more diabolical than your typical "burbling" gutteral death style.

That's about the only Morbid Angel album I can listen to - the rest are just plain boring, especially this overacclaimed "Blessed Are The Sick" - when I heard it 20 years ago I fell asleep listening. This one at least has some life and energy in it.
theres a problem i seem to be having with morbid angel lately.. before like on gateways or formulas album there was so much more emphasis to their music, like your can feel what they're really trying to paint. i just feel like they're another "brick in the wall" in the death metal world now, you take away pete and trey working together and this is what you get!!

Of course bands change and evolve. They generally play better, have better song structure, and throw in something different now and then but this album sounds like something that would be a side project. Not having the Morbid Angel name on it.

There are 4 'Extreme' metal songs on the album, and only Nevermore sounds like Morbid Angel. This is cool, but it sounds more like Zyklon than Morbid Angel.
I.U.I. is IMO a completely different musical idea than what M.A. was originally.
Heavy, but fails to measure up to classic material. MIght as well get new guys to write songs for them. Obviously they've lost themselves. Much like what happened to Metallica, but at least they had an excuse as their bassist died. Aside from the crap songs on this album, the newschool production drains the life from anything that could've been heavy, like this tune.

the bad horror movie esque ones (pretty dumb but if you emmerse yourself you might actually have... i dunno, fun...) - I am morbid, destructos, profundis
This is a great song that is truly worthy of the Morbid Angel name. There are a few others on the album that come close to this, but sadly it's all downhill after that.

I think insulting their experimental tracks just gives more fuel to their fire in future. So what, some tracks aren't good for some listeners. Like I give a fuck. It has always been this; bands do different stuff and even their "true" fans leave them. I like that bands don't just stick to their one and only style.

Aside from a few horrendous industrial-type tracks, I think Illud Divinum Insanus is a solid album from death metal legends Morbid Angel. This is one prime example of what makes the album potentially worthwhile

The Death Metal tracks kick ass and the experimental tracks are breaking the typical mold as Morbid Angel always does. Hearing the insults crying and baby talk from so many is typical and in the end Morbid Angel will be ahead of the pack as always doing what they want to do exactly as they want despite the ridicule.

I dont have problem with bands changing their style but this one is disappointing for death metal funs and industrial funs too. And that confusing piece of shit will remain a piece of shit forever. Nobody will look back and change his opinion in the future. Go listen to the new Autopsy album

(Nevermore, 10 More Dead, Beauty meets Beast, I am Morbid and The Blades of Baal.) and i feel violated, im being honest, i listened to those 5 songs once and i dont want to hear them ever again. Im now listening to the new Autopsy album to see if its any good :)

Of course bands change and evolve. They generally play better, have better song structure, and throw in something different now and then but this album sounds like something that would be a side project. Not having the Morbid Angel name on it.
Hell, look at Cannibal Corpse then and now. They have changed but not so much so that it isn't CC anymore.

@mosefus I would not mind change, if only they made GOOD music. This is the best track, and like pointed out, it's not even by Azagthoth. There's far better bands doing industrial tinged death metal; this album is bad not because it's differente, but because it's lazily written, when not downright shit.

There are 4 'Extreme' metal songs on the album, and only Nevermore sounds like Morbid Angel. This is cool, but it sounds more like Zyklon than Morbid Angel.
I.U.I. is IMO a completely different musical idea than what M.A. was originally.

Heavy, but fails to measure up to classic material. MIght as well get new guys to write songs for them. Obviously they've lost themselves. Much like what happened to Metallica, but at least they had an excuse as their bassist died. Aside from the crap songs on this album, the newschool production drains the life from anything that could've been heavy, like this tune.

I'm probably going to get a lot of flak for this but i've listened to this album quite a few times so I can have it sink in... and I actually like it to be honest and I can sort the album into some main categories
the good - existo vulgore, blades for baal, nevermore, 10 more dead, beauty meets beast
the bad - radikult, too extreme
the bad horror movie esque ones (pretty dumb but if you emmerse yourself you might actually have... i dunno, fun...) - I am morbid, destructos, profundis

This is a great song that is truly worthy of the Morbid Angel name. There are a few others on the album that come close to this, but sadly it's all downhill after that.

I think insulting their experimental tracks just gives more fuel to their fire in future. So what, some tracks aren't good for some listeners. Like I give a fuck. It has always been this; bands do different stuff and even their "true" fans leave them. I like that bands don't just stick to their one and only style.
If you don't like this then try wah wah metal. It won't change.

Aside from a few horrendous industrial-type tracks, I think Illud Divinum Insanus is a solid album from death metal legends Morbid Angel. This is one prime example of what makes the album potentially worthwhile

The Death Metal tracks kick ass and the experimental tracks are breaking the typical mold as Morbid Angel always does. Hearing the insults crying and baby talk from so many is typical and in the end Morbid Angel will be ahead of the pack as always doing what they want to do exactly as they want despite the ridicule.

There was a good reason they kicked him out. @ByorythmicDrifter no one seems to be slandering morbid angel at all, they are simply stating how bad they dislike the songs that are.. well, just not that good. Also, I love morbid angel for their experimental stuff, formulas, in my opinion, was their most experimental album until this one and was indeed their best in my opinion. These certain songs are just.. not morbid
