this group's horn section is so tight and they sound so great live! i have loved them for a long long time. i am 62 and my husband is flute and sax player and has toured in his younger days with some great soul groups. he now is a professor of music at a college and still plays with the greatful geezers from houston. Of course he loves this group too! thanx for posting!
When I partied with this lineup, let me tell you, This Vocalist, Keyboardist and of course bassist Rocco, were all DAMN COOL, KIND and DOWN TO EARTH. Good folks indeed. The only other person I met was the drummer, David, ok I said what I had to say and will not go into details, great drummer though.
I would say the drum loop just play at the beginning and somewhere in the middlepart...anyway in my opinion its ok, as long its only the drum loop. Not like Britney Spears just sings to the studio recording. Theres nothing going on with auto-tune just pure music in his best.
Got that right. I was in a band that opened for them once, and got to watch them in rehearsal and close up on stage. The rhythm section's shit was as tight as Sarah Palin.
TOP is the best live act in the business. They are better now than ever (and they've been at this for 40 years now)so if you've never seen them in concert it's a "must do."
Yeah, David Garibaldi left for a few years. And Herman Matthews, David Bartlett, Mark Sanders, Mick Mestek, Ronnie Beck and Russ McKinnon all played in of with Tower of Power
How better can a brass section sound? tighter than that is hard to find.Tower of Power mastered their sound to the max, without a doubt one of the best bands of our times.Of course for people that like this music.
The opener, Stroke 75, is is a fabulous song live. They lead with this cut on a new DVD released in 2007. The show (from Germany) has great sound and video quality.
This is the first DVD they recorded in Germany. There is another one they just put out also recorded in Germany but features Larry Braggs on lead vocals.
I saw this lineup like 8-10 times in their last few years together! Not only great players, but the nicest guys ever. Bill, Jesse and Brent, gah, I miss you guys!
Didn't think anybody remembered Louis Jordan, Thanks for bringing his name up. He wasn't just a Singer/Sax player, he was the ultimate front-man. Thanks
Oakland Stroke is on "Tower of Power, Back To Oakland". It is only a intro at the beginning and end of the first side. It was never recorded as an entire cut. They will often use it as such in concert.
This is one straight-up soul band. I never got a chance to see them perform live, but I hope to this year. I love "Stroke 75". It's just right and tight. Can someone out there tell me what album was it recorded.
Yeah! This is the funk! Bump City, Oakland, California. My buddy Norbert Stachel on tenor saxophone, an East Bay cat whom I met in San Francisco across the Bay in '84 is an baaad dude on that horn. This band sounds tight as ever and that Garibaldi/Rocco Prestia tandem is still king of the pocket.
Drumloop is so bad taste. Drumloop are getting old. Freaky new jack style !

Everytime I hear Garibaldi playing with Tower of Power, I want to go play some music. These dudes are the best!
