  • Drumloop is so bad taste. Drumloop are getting old. Freaky new jack style !

  • Everytime I hear Garibaldi playing with Tower of Power, I want to go play some music. These dudes are the best!

  • this group's horn section is so tight and they sound so great live! i have loved them for a long long time. i am 62 and my husband is flute and sax player and has toured in his younger days with some great soul groups. he now is a professor of music at a college and still plays with the greatful geezers from houston. Of course he loves this group too! thanx for posting!

  • @jay1beaux

    enjoy your post :-) R

  • When I partied with this lineup, let me tell you, This Vocalist, Keyboardist and of course bassist Rocco, were all DAMN COOL, KIND and DOWN TO EARTH. Good folks indeed. The only other person I met was the drummer, David, ok I said what I had to say and will not go into details, great drummer though.

  • I would say the drum loop just play at the beginning and somewhere in the middlepart...anyway in my opinion its ok, as long its only the drum loop. Not like Britney Spears just sings to the studio recording. Theres nothing going on with auto-tune just pure music in his best.

    Power of Tower!

  • one of the few bands that can duplicate live what they do in the studio

  • doesen´t the drums sound a little synthetic?

  • it's a drumloop.

the drummer is just playing over it

  • the guy in the yellow looks a little like bill bailey :P The drummer rocks!

  • What a lame audience! Jeez!

  • lo bueno no se puede ocultar que buena banda ca,

  • I only can hear first trumpet : (

  • I hear ya.

    Pretty bad mix all around.

  • Wo bitte ist "Ohne Filter -. Musik Pur " zu finden ?

Wenn jemand das weiß bitte erwähnen !

    Großartiges Konzert

  • IN THE POCKET BABY!!

  • ytsephill,

With Garibaldi and Rocco Prestia can't be any other way dude.

  • Got that right. I was in a band that opened for them once, and got to watch them in rehearsal and close up on stage. The rhythm section's shit was as tight as Sarah Palin.

  • LOL dertrommler54,

Honest, I donated money for Rocco's transplant. I feel that was the best thing I could ever done.

Jaco'd Dad said it.. "the Women and Rhythm section first"

  • The Coolest Dudes on the Planet

  • Isn't there a little trumpet error just before the singing begins? :)

  • Yea, I heard it too, but don't get me wrong, all of those horn players are amazing.

  • TOP is the best live act in the business. They are better now than ever (and they've been at this for 40 years now)so if you've never seen them in concert it's a "must do."

  • this singer is a monster. he has the subtle nuances of all the best top singers and makes it his own

  • He's my fave top singer so far!

  • i agree with bicicletta89 ..... i love this thang

  • it's such a good fealing to know that there

are bands like tower of power on the world,

which are doing music by a great job on their

instruments and not just on an electronic

    syntatic way.

  • good:)

  • the doctor rocks i saw tower of power at this fair last week

  • I think it's funny that David Garibaldi looks so bored while playing....

  • Saw these guys yesterday, they were performing at Pori Jazz Festival, Finnland.

  • love how tight and consistant the drumming is!

  • The tightest horn section in the Universe. A day didn't go by in So Cal with out playing one of their LP's.

Thanks TOP for the Funk and Soul.

You guys carried me through my own music and life.

  • david garibaldi! amazing funky and groove drummer!!

  • Theyre Awsome!!!1 been one of my Favorites since the late 60's from San jose cali

  • dont know what ur talking about buddy...David Garibaldi is the original TOP drummer and has never left

  • What about Ronny Beck?

  • Yeah, David Garibaldi left for a few years. And Herman Matthews, David Bartlett, Mark Sanders, Mick Mestek, Ronnie Beck and Russ McKinnon all played in of with Tower of Power

  • not too shabby for a bunch of middle aged guys...just foolin around...i am the same age they are....top 4 ever!

  • How better can a brass section sound? tighter than that is hard to find.Tower of Power mastered their sound to the max, without a doubt one of the best bands of our times.Of course for people that like this music.

  • I found the DvD by surprise in my local Music Shop and just couldn't resist^^ Its fabulous !! If you can get a grip on the DvD ... DO!!!! =)

    Funk on!

  • The opener, Stroke 75, is is a fabulous song live. They lead with this cut on a new DVD released in 2007. The show (from Germany) has great sound and video quality.

  • Funkisimo, pura vitalidad.

  • ...Funk it up!

  • ah yeah! make me wanna get up and git stoopid!

  • does david graibaldi still plays the drums for TOP?

  • yes he does.

  • kool man, thx

  • No Problem.

  • I love garibaldi..... ultra funky

  • can any one out there tell me if this is from a dvd which you can buy ?? i have the what is hip dvd which is good but i want more. please help.

  • This is the first DVD they recorded in Germany. There is another one they just put out also recorded in Germany but features Larry Braggs on lead vocals.

  • What The Funk! This is some soul band!

Docter, I need more of your medicine. MORE!

  • Now that's some SOUL!

  • i really dig their new vocalist... his stage presence is amazing. how many have they had anyways?

  • There new vocalist is Larry Braggs the guy truly is there greatest frontman hands down....

  • The opening song, Stroke '75, is on the disc 'What Is Hip? The Tower Of Power Anthology' Track 11 disc 2

  • When I think Funk, I think Germany?!? WTF!!!

  • the sign in the back says "ohne filter" which means "without filter", so I guess it was recorded in germany, swiss or austria.

  • Thanks for this great song full of soul!! This was sent to me via thrid party! Watched 2 of these today! CHEERS! canehdian-dude.livedigital dot com

  • It looks just like a very large group of German steel workers have gathered together in the same room...Very German looking audience.

  • Dave Garibaldi= the groove machine! Can't beat him!

  • old white men+funk=love

  • I saw this lineup like 8-10 times in their last few years together! Not only great players, but the nicest guys ever. Bill, Jesse and Brent, gah, I miss you guys!

  • For Juniorfats..

Didn't think anybody remembered Louis Jordan, Thanks for bringing his name up. He wasn't just a Singer/Sax player, he was the ultimate front-man. Thanks

  • I have seen them many times...with Lenny Picket, Prestia, Garibaldi, Chester Thompson!!!

  • Thanks alot for this, keep it up =)

  • Tightest band since Louis Jordan and His Tympany Five.Just pure funk, was lucky enough to see them just when Oakland Stroke came out, they were scary.

  • norbert stachel on tenor sax is the best!

  • Oakland Stroke is on "Tower of Power, Back To Oakland". It is only a intro at the beginning and end of the first side. It was never recorded as an entire cut. They will often use it as such in concert.

  • this tune is not the "oakland stroke"

  • This is one straight-up soul band. I never got a chance to see them perform live, but I hope to this year. I love "Stroke 75". It's just right and tight. Can someone out there tell me what album was it recorded.

  • This intro theme was never recorded, T.O.P. only play this live every so often. I have seen them do this at the start of their 1st set in concert.

  • No, it has been recorded. I can't remember for what but I have the track. Contact me if you want it.

  • It has been recorded... Stroke '75

  • that is great! i waited years for the posting of stroke 75, thanx!

  • yes it is

  • Hi thanks for posting this great stuff! is it available on dvd do you know? thanks!

  • Funky!! Look abunch old white guys too, Im diggin that! See some white guys have soul!

  • Yeah! This is the funk! Bump City, Oakland, California. My buddy Norbert Stachel on tenor saxophone, an East Bay cat whom I met in San Francisco across the Bay in '84 is an baaad dude on that horn. This band sounds tight as ever and that Garibaldi/Rocco Prestia tandem is still king of the pocket.

  • yes it is!

  • Funky funky funky is that David Garibaldi on drums?

  • thats the greatest match of bass and drums "rocco" and d.g. two funky ass white boys!!!

  • Thats D.G. With T.O.P.

  • Thanks for the post. I just discovered a band... Could somebody be kind enough to write down the setlist please? Thanks again.

  • What a great band! Marvelous
