@wertacus Exactly so you could make one yourself. Have a browse around Instructables, there are nearly fifty thousand projects there now - at least a few of them won't scare you (although The World's Largest Party Popper [you'll have to search for it] might make you wet your pants...)

@jadejordan1 I have never tried it, and I recommend you do not, either, as petrol vapours are highly explosive at a wide range of air/vapour mixtures.

It's too likely to go dangerously bang.

There is no power source. It's a fuel in a jam jar. Fuel air mix explodes, pushes air out. Cools slightly, draws in more oxygen, explodes again and so on..

you should try making one out of steel with some sort of refueling system. and maybe try submerging the jar in another jar filled with water so the glass stays cool and doesn't shatter.

If you put it in water, the temperature difference between the inside and the outisde will only become greater, the point is not to cool the glass down but to keep the temperature equal.

Try heating up a glass bowl in an oven and then suberge it in ice-cold water, it wil shatter ;-)

Submerging the jar fully in water will increase the speed at which heat is removed from the jar's outer surface (esp. if stirred) and hence reduce the outer temp. The 'jet' will take longer to warm up, in other words, and probably last a bit longer before shattering the jar. It's also safer. The jar will float, though, but only part-wetting the jar will cause a sudden temp. diff. along the jar's length ==> potentially faster failure. Weigh it down. :D
