  • @beathoven100

Somehow I got it to work. Seems to have fixed itself.

  • I miss the old Cnet. ;(

  • @alexmeanberg I havent used cnet so long so what was the difference?

  • Anyone know if you can you repartition to delete Windows from linux if you install linux using Wubi?

  • @garth813 nope. do the disk burning method, and remove every bit from windows and let ubuntu take over. P.S> this will remove ALL OF YOUR DATA ON WINDOWS.

  • Thank you for actually pronouncing the Ubuntu correctly. It is an African word, but ppl keep pronouncing it "you"-boontu, stupid as hell.

  • This guy is just generally annoying and hard to listen to. It's really just downloading wubi and entering the information. Then on your next boot you have 2 choices in OSes. Not worth the 3 minutes.

  • did anyone notice the screwed up title?

"Install Ubuntu on Linux with no muss or fuss"

Ubuntu on LINIX??? loooooool check it out... it's at 0:33

  • what did you mean with backup? (im dutch)

    plz help

  • Backing up basically means to copy your files to a safer location (as he mentioned, a thumb drive or USB hard disk), and this way if there is ever an issue that causes Windows to throw up (i.e. crash to the point of no recovery), your personal data is saved on that hard disk or thumb drive, and nothing is lost.

  • WOW!

THNX TO YOU NOW I INSTALLED UBUNTU SUCCESFULLY ON MY PC

    thnx!

  • Backup means coping all your files onto a seperate storage device so that you dont lose data in case you accidentally lose data in your computer.

  • Backup middelen omgaan al uw bestanden op een aparte opslag apparaat, zodat u dont verliest gegevens voor het geval dat u per ongeluk verliezen van gegevens in de computer.

    (in dutch from google translator)

  • copy your files so you won't accidentally hurt them

  • Thanks much. I'll be trying it soon.

  • Would my files in Windows XP could be affected??

If I install Wubi, it will erase my data in Windows XP? because I need a way so that when I open Ubuntu there will be no setup "EVERYTHING" will appear... help me I'm scared to download it coz I'm nervous+scared to lost my files...

  • No. It's just like installing any other program.

You just have to reboot to choose what system you want to be in. Your files in windows will be accessible in Ubuntu too.

And if you get tired of Ubuntu you can just run the uninstaller for Ubuntu in windows, and you'll be back with only windows.

  • after you uninstall wubi, will it still take up the space taken by ubuntu, or will it be freed?

  • I'm pretty sure that if you uninstall Wubi, it removes the Ubuntu partition.

  • will this work with 64Bit ubuntu????

  • i am new to ubuntu but now i cant get in with my un and pw, anyway to fis it ?

  • " [...] over rite your current OS [...]"

no you do not, ever heard of "resizing a partition"? GParted is the shit for that

  • GParted isn't the shit for it, it is shit 'at' it.

    screwed up my hard disk...

Paragon Partition Manager all the way.

you may say you have to pay for it, but go for one of the older versions and you can register for a free key...

  • what exactly did you do?

I have [almost never] had any problems with GParted...

If you "defrag" the partitions first then there should not be any problems...

Was it NTFS? that is a hell to repartition, same goes for VFAT...

I only use GParted during installations any ways... one for / , one for /boot , one for /home and one for swap -- easy peasy ^_^

If the drive has bad sectors, then you are screwed anyway.. GParted warns about it... that can bee seen as an error but it is not..

  • will this work with vista?

  • yes i did it and worked fine

  • Uhh will this work for ubuntu 8.10 64 bit AMD?

  • sure I already did it.

  • C NET <3

  • Like CHVNX stated, Ubuntu is comes from Zulu in Africa. It means I am who I am because of those around me.

  • The new wubi works on vista.

  • How come all the n00bs always call it "ooboontoo"? Or maybe it's just me and I'm the only one who pronounces it "oobuntoo".

  • Because noobs dont spend there life on the computer and go outside at least once a day

  • And b/c they have poor grammar skills.

  • man i still go out and party and have a life, and i still hack game systems, and im running KDE4 linux(way better if ur a dap handler arround the CPU) dualbooted with vista...but ur right...lol who cares about the name..its fun just fuckin arround with this shit...oh and Im running gOS on another old pentium 2 i built myself...think ill go clubbin' on thursday!!

  • cuz english vowels are crap. why should the U sound different in different locations? Latin-based language FTW!

  • Ubuntu is an African word from the Zulu and Xhosa languages, and is pronounced like "oo-BOON-too".

Go watch the video The Ubuntu Experience you fucking n00b.

  • im so glad they did this because i never can get that iso file to work on my discs, so yeah downloading now so i can finally use ubuntu

  • I can't belive it i finally got ubuntu working.

    And...

    I forgot my password -_-

  • Yeah same here lol

  • does this work with vista

  • I think im gonna back up my files cause knowing my luck it would probably fuck up my whole computer XD

  • oobootoo! lol

  • oh and can u tripple boot with 3 systems like 2 linux and windows?

  • i dont know why.. but i have 4 xD

  • This really heped ty sooo much 4 th uppload

  • when he says back up your data does he mean backup your individual files or keap a copy of your main operating system. Please just abswer my question.

  • OH NO! i didnt back up!!!!!!!!!

    lol

  • which wubi is better the 7.04 or the 8.04????

    heeeeeeeeelp!!!!!

  • 8.04 is the newer version and is the better one

  • is it possible for vista?

  • yea, its compatible with vista

  • I've tried a lot of different ways of using Ubuntu, or Linux in general, and I have to say, this is the defiantly the easiest so far. You don't have to mess with your Master Boot Record, take time to partition your drive, edit GRUB, or anything. If you want to try out Ubuntu, you should defiantly take a look at Wubi.

  • Hmm but is it safe? :s:s

  • Yep, I use it and its GREAT! If Ubuntu crashes you just go into Windows and uninstall it!

  • I have to say I've been using Ubuntu for about a year now and had no problems. It works flawlessly, is very customizable, and it's FREE.

  • whats wrong with partining the hard drive?

  • You will have to find a mac version of wubi.

  • anybody knows how to do this on a mac?

  • thanks for telling us that

  • it works for vista 2!!!!

  • yes i did it

  • please helppppppp .I downloaded ubuntu 8.04 and wubi . and wen i run wubi and i want to install ubuntu using wubi,it downloads ubuntu 7.04.can i install ubuntu using wubi if i have ubuntu 8.04?????

  • Download de latest Wubi Installer

  • or install 7.04 and upgrade within Ubuntu.

  • 0:30

    Instal Ubuntu on Linux... ?!

  • WHY DID I NOT FIND THIS EARLIER!?!?!?

    oh well. :)

  • I don't think installing linux is a good idea for someone who thinks that partitioning or even burn a CD (!!!) is pain. Let's face it: Linux is like building an OS using Lego bricks. If you don't consider this fun, don't bother. I do, therefore I installed!

  • if i instqalled to my external har drive would it format it?

  • ever heard of dual booting? install windows first and then use ubuntu to repartition the hard drive automatekly?

  • will ubuntu booted under wubi see all of my hardware? I have a dual 8800 gt setup and I would especially like to have my cards working under normal linux drivers.

  • and i did alot of shit for nothing...

  • Will this work with windows XP Media centre edition

  • crap what a waste of time! there's a WUBI!

  • i tried to run wubi on my windows 2000 machines. wubi crashed. does anyone know why??

  • yea he said windows xp

  • wouldnt it be easier and safer to boot it off of an external hard drive

  • wouldnt it be easier and safer to boot it on an external hard drive??

  • couldnt i simply boot it on an external hard drive instead of my own??

  • Yea it would and if your Super 1337 You can Dual Boot with that Extenrnal Harddrive and have like Ubuntu,Linux,Mac OS X,XP,Vista and more

  • So true :)

  • too many people to reaspond to soo i quite on the 2 that i did repsond to :P lol... wubi is the bomb:D and linux is awsome:D... soo much power in my fingure tips:D

  • I have only 1 partition is my D drive and its my recovery files. My other drive is my C drive which has all my files on it. What would happen if i install and boot Ubuntu on the C drive? will it format it? im not moving on untill i find out what to do. im really parinoid of my hard drive formatting!

  • no it will not mess with ur files.. but im not giong to tell u to trust any one.. soo yes if ur scared back up your entire system.. and its a plus to back up ur system any ways... but the install with wubi is just that soo people like ur self and other novice users dont need to format their hd losing their data..

  • I only have 1 partition and its my D drive with all my recovery files. i cant seem to make another partition to install Ubuntu on. My only main drive is C and i dunno that if I install and boot Ubuntu that it will format my C drive. im just waiting to make shure what to do next so that i dont format my drive

  • can this work with vista?

  • yes it does work with vista

  • k so what graphix card do i need. i have an old geforce mx 4000 (yeah i know... i will get another in a week or 2) but would it work with it? and will ubuntu affect windows files when i install it?

  • Can I upgrade to 7.10? will it override vista?

  • it wont upgrade via the updater?

  • i have a question reply quickly please i installed ubuntu and in the wubi options i choose 15 gb of space but that was too litle has higher space to choose the installer of wubi but also has an option that says READ ONLY what does that means that will only read ubuntu from my disk and use it entirely and i will still have my old xp x64bit¿?

  • hey,

maybe it doesnt support the new release, try installing the old release , once it runs and your logged in to ubuntu just update it to 7.10 , i dont know if the update goes trough the updat manager or its one of these big upgrades.

  • I did it...it took AGES...and when it was finished..my internet via Ubuntu didn't work anymore. If you're going to want 7.10..download 7.10,,don't upgrade from 7.04

  • oops, ignor the last reply,

what if it was the new version ubuntu 7.10?

how do i skip it?? it doesn't recognize the ubuntu 7.10 but it recognizes the 7.04 version

  • hey, sry, but how could already have the ubuntu iso but i dont know where to put it to skip the process of downloading it

  • You're welcome mate!

  • thx!
