I don't understand why you pump the pedal to the floor .
It's a Diesel not a carburated engine,to pump the pedal will not spray gasoil because the injection pump is mechanical so can't distribute gasoil if doesn't rotate.
is it to put on the cold start device of the pump ?
Is it specific to this vehicle ?, engine ?
I always see Corvairwild doing this and i've never asked the question till now .
I'm not sure what ze Doktor will tell you, but I don't pump the pedal...it's only to get full fuel to the engine under cold starts. Plus, there is a "fast idle" solenoid that holds the throttle down a touch...you can feel it click on when you have the ignition on and pressure to the pedal.
Update - I've been ditching the "pedal to the metal" procedure and just giving it 1/4 throttle on cold start conditions...starts with only 10 seconds of glow plug, even on sub-20* mornings...
supprised most people go down to florda for winter!!!! nice to see your in the mid west!!!!!where abouts in ohio do u live? northern, central, western, eastern, southern? close to Michigan?
Drove Cleetus to Ohio in about 18 hours with a ton of tools and chemicals in the bed. Also towing my Corvette. Ran like a champ. Stayed overnight in Atlanta.
Moved to Ohio...still have a place in Naples, though!
We never had any problem starting our silverado's (Suburban and blazer 84 and 86) Diesels, even down to -25 deg C (-13 deg F). They also have the same 6.2L diesels in them, but one thing, we never touch the pedal when we start. Allso, I think we get a little help from the optima batteries, they are very good at cold starts! I recommend using those!
I have the push-button glow plug modification, and in the past few days of sub-25deg days I have given it about 20 seconds of GP and then cranked it right up. This video made me laugh because Cleetus was surprisingly stubborn!
One thing I should do is change the starter cable, as it wore through the insulation and arc'd against the oil pan a few times this summer. It's probably not up to the cold start task I ask of it!
You pussy..25 degrees is nothing
