Actually Super Turbo Sagat really blows, I think his tiger shots are slow and his uppercut only does full damage if all the hits connect. Old Sagat is much stronger and his uppercut is one hit (full damage as long as it touches you).

thats pretty much it with japan. You'll notice that MANY fighting games in japan, players there tend to pick a HUGE variety of character selections. Its extremely entertaining to watch. Unfortunately the FG community here tend to heavily favor top tier chars mostly. O.Sagat mirror matches here are incredibly boring to watch.

The reason he's softbanned is because he beats a lot of characters, no contest. So, while some characters DO beat him, he completely ruins ST's metagame by making only a few characters really viable in an environment where he's prolific as a selectable character. That's why there is a lot more character variety in Japan than in the USA.

In Japan all you get is Ryu, Guile, and M.Bison with a few people using the other characters

In America you get Ryu, M.Bison, O.Sagat, and Balrog and a few people that will pick other characters.

Those "one or two players" happen to be the most visible players of their characters. In Japan, the reality is that in the arcades you get to face a lot more characters. Ryu, Ken, O. Ken, Chun-Li, Honda, Blanka, Guile, Boxer, T. Hawk, O. Hawk, Zangief and Dictator all have a higher presence in Japan.

Ironically, the USA has a bit more Dhalsims because of the huge presence of O. Sagat. We also seem to be the only people that pick Dee Jay very often.

In Arcades we get FAR more different characters than the players in Japan, most Japanese players stick to one or two characters, Americans pretty much go through the whole cast.

Akuma has biggest combos in the game and best stun ability, added to his air fireball which can stuff basically everything and his chipping game makes him clearly a good character, but the blocked air fireball into Raging Demon is what puts him over the top. Whether it blocks or hits, a crossup air fireball can absolutely decimate a player. Another thing is the corner lockdown with tiger knee air fireballs, some characters have an incredibly difficult time getting out of that.

You missed a few reasons:

- He can't be dizzied

- The recovery on his special moves is incredibly fast

- Tatsu combos

- No characters were designed to overcome the air fireball

Anyone who selects Akuma in ST is instantly frowned up and he should only be chosen with consent from both players, he is banned from all tournaments. HDR Akuma is tame in comparison, try vsing a human controlled Akuma on ST lol
