@JameZCody It all depends man, you aren't thinking the massive amount of weight difference between the 5.0 and the 2.3L. Let's just say there is a reason the 175hp SVO was able to kick the 225hp 5.0s ass in a drag race.
@Shomelife the most hp the svo ever made was in 1985 1/2 which was 205 hp. and that one isn't even as fast as the 225 hp mustang gt which was made in 88-93. it was only faster than the gt of the same year (1985 1/2) which only mad 180ph. the weight difference isn't that much only about 120-140 pounds and a lot of that has to do with the drive train and not the motor because the 2.3 lima block is a huge chunk of iron capable of handling 720hp even more than the gt which is only around 500hp.
@shishisha11 The AOD transmission GT made 180, but the manny-trannied GT made 210. So I don't know where your sources are. The SVO made 205, so a 5 horsepower gap. Add the 120-140 pounds your talking, and there's a big difference at the end of the 1/4. The SVO was also built for racing, not just the 1/4, watch the old commercials. Also, the 2.3 can handle a lot more than 720hp. Haven't you heard of John Dell Blair? Over 900 horses in is 2.3L (bored to 2.7) SVO tall deck block.
@BTerra01 Imean theres a video of a built 4cyl Fox on here running 9's...just go look for it. Granted it is boosted and its a fully prepped track car but its still a 4cyl. Those motors make good power when built.
@EndingEscence hey you think i could swap my 88 2.3L mustang with a 2.9L ranger? i want more power and i have a 2.9L ranger sitting in my yard, and a tranny. if it is possible would i have to swap the tranny as well?
@halflife103 Well I didn't have to because the 92 Mustang 2.3 and the 95 Ranger are bolt-hole for bolt-hole but I'm not completely sure about one that's older than a 88 unless your Ranger is an 88 as well. If you want more power our of your 2.3 without doing alot of swapping and switching bust out the Cats, knock out the air filter baffler and a small exhaust.
@halflife103 Then most likely, no need to switch the transmission if they are the same, just look at the wiring and bellhousing bolts etc to make sure they are the same. I swapped my 92 2.3 for a 95 2.3 and they bolted and connected exact. Only difference was the 95 had a short-tube header.
i have the same problem with mine that is the only thing i hate about mine and my dad is a good mechanic and says there is nothing wrong with the car it must just be getting old - how many kms does it have .. it won't be as low as 14mpg your getting though .. thats like dodge ram 5.9L hemi gas mileage lol
